This is probably a good one for Soggy-

I watched the cartoon"Fraidy Cat" yesterday with a few of my friends, and one of tham asked, "Hey- that radio narrator sounds a lot like Maragret Hamilton- was that her?"

I listened to it again- yes, I think he's right. Margaret Hamilton was the Canadian actress who played the Wicked Witch in MGM's "Wizard Of Oz"- it's quite possible, since she may have still been under contract for MGM studios, and could have provided a voice for this cartoon.

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks!

I don't know. She might be. I don't think the cartoon was started until late 1940/early 1941, because of that Fred Quimby/Tom & Jerry fiasco.

(From Joe Barbera's biography "My Life in Toons")

"We can't put all of our eggs into one basket", Fred told us. Frankly, MGM didn't have ANY eggs to put into ANY basket.

The voice is the same one used by Hugh Harman -- with the same "Death stalks the night" line as in his cartoon "Bottles" which Bill Hanna probably worked on just before Hugh and Rudy got tossed the first time from MGM.

The voice also sounds similar to the voice for the (male) mad bomber in Avery's 1936 cartoon "The Blow Out" which means it could have been done by either a voice actress familiar to both the WB and MGM studios, or even a female animation department staffer who could have been at Warners in late 1935 and over at MGM by 1937.
