So, is anyone else as excited about this as I am? I thought the book was splendid when I first read it, and I really thought it would make it to theatre's. A lot of people may think this will just be another LoTR's rip-off (like my sister did, when she didn't even read the book), but I can honestly say it is nothing like LoTR.
Could anyone identify the actors in this perhaps? I am not to good with putting names on faces when it comes to actors, but yeah.

There's no reason to assume every book which features dragons & magic is a LOTR ripoff. Tolkien didn't *invent* the sword-and-sorcery genre, he just came closer to perfecting it than anyone else has (so far.)
So I may very well be giving this flick a look.

Not much of a ripoff of the book persay but as a quick uncreative cash-in (like Narnia).
Same goes with the upcoming His Dark Materials.

are you saying the books or the movies are cashing in?The movies. It's even more obvious now with the upcoming Narnia Expanded Dvd.

How do we know it is uncreative when we haven't even seen it yet?

i think the movies are for sure cashing in on the succeess of the fantasy genre, but i hope some of the movies made will be good and creative. Withing fantasy, there is actually a lot of creativity. I think as long as the source m,aterial is strong, there is hope for the film (if they are faithful). Having said that, I have not read Eragon, but (maybe its just the name) in my mind seems like a LOTR clone, but i want to read it before writing it off.

How do we know it is uncreative when we haven't even seen it yet? It's not the movies that are uncreative, it is the way they are being marketed. I should have made that a bit clearer.

I think Eragon may have a shot at being a big hit. Luckily, in the absence of Narnia, Potter, or LOTR, this winter season is fairly light on action/adventure/fantasy and thats what has gotten me interested in Eragon.
Some people saids that the book it's like "The Luke Skywalker adventures on Midde Earth".
This movie can work with the most younger audience, but not with "experienced fans".

Yeah, the book is pretty much Star Wars in a fantacy setting. And the second book, The Eldest, is pretty much The Empire Strikes back. Having said that I loved Eragon. The Eldest wasn't as exciting, but that could be because I had much higher expectations for that book than I did for Eragon. I'm still looking forward to book three.

Any idea who's voicing Saphira? Can't have a half way decent movie without a snarky dragon. ;)

I can't be excited by something I've never heard of. So it is based off a book? Either way, if I see a trailer and it looks good, I might go see it. Have no plans to ever read a book, especially ones I see movies of.

I will agree there. narnia was marketed as the next LOTR when it was much more of a fairy tale, and it was blatantly obvious.
Bright daylight battles with cute looking creatures on both sides, presented in the same way as the dark, gritty battles of LOTR screamed LOTR-lite.

Kind of funny you mentioned that because when J.R.R. Tolkien read C.S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in manuscript form around 1949 during Inkings meetings Tolkien felt EXACTLY the same way.

Except Tolkien and Lewis were friends, so it isn't a surprise. Just like how the creators of both Swamp Thing and Man Thing were friends.

I have to disagree on that! Tolkien and Lewis became increasingly strained in their relationship from the early 1950's on, and they rarely communicated after Lewis married Joy Davidson Gresham. Indeed, at the time of Lewis' death, Tolkien didn't even contribute the memorial volume book for Lewis.
