How would this work? Would they dumb OP down to a Dick and Jane level?

"This is Luffy. See Luffy kick Mr. 0's ass. Go Luffy Go."

"This is Zoro. He likes to cut people with his swords. Kill Zoro Kill."

:D

Remember, Scholastic also released Harry Potter in the states as well as various novel serials aimed above the picture book level, so it might be a bit more verbose than the picture books that a lot of people associate Scholastic with by default. In fact, it looks like it'll be a chapter book serial at the least.

/But you can bet that we'll be lucky if the adaptation is half as entertaining as later Boxcar Children novel or a Goosebumps book, and that stuff was fluff at best.
//Wonder what Oda thinks of this?

Whatever happened to "kids can't read", now?

This isn't even a manga, which would theoretically be more appealing to children... It's a chapter book.

But this is 4******bags. It'd be more like this:

"This is Luffy. See Luffy hand out brownies to Baroque Works to promote friendship. Go Luffy Go."

So if the manga isn't completely under 4kids control, they'll make a One Piece story of their own... This is just sad.

The irony being Kahn's own logic dictates they'll lose to Viz in sales.

I talked to this guy, who met people people in the industry, because he makes manga and all, and he says that Viz controls everything done with One Piece in the States. The whole 4kids editing stuff, that's Viz's decision, so we should blame them for letting them handle the anime.

All that aside, Viz probably won't mind if the book's a clean version of the manga in chapter form.

I dunno, I kinda doubt that. If Viz truly controlled everything in the US One Piece (instead of just everything manga-related), why bother allowing 4Kids to go as hog-wild as they did, and not even try and change the manga to follow closer to the anime? Viz isn't stupid, they've been around for too long to know how big OP's fanbase is to just hand it over to 4Kids and screw over FUNimation like that (especially since Viz & FUNi work together a lot recently).

I can see if Viz would control everything manga-related, but control the anime in any way besides releasing the DVDs? I can't see it. Viz would've stepped in and released uncuts by now if that was the case (because Uncut One Piece would've made them a lot of money, and Viz knows that).

Who's FUK?

And we already know who killed JFK. Remember that recent episode of Family Guy?

I wonder what kind of loser kid buys these anyway.
When I was a kid, not even then did I buy lame scholastic chapter books for Star Wars or whatnot. Hell, I went for the Dark Horse comics and the "Essential Guide to Space Toilets" series.

The kids with the Scholastic Chapter Books of franchises....were the kids with the Treasure Troll thermoses in 6th Grade.

Its the difference between the disney Channel showing Classic Disney movies, and Disney Channel Original Movies.

The cheap franchise books are made by Scholastic. Harry Potter etc are published THROUGH them.

There were several actually and they were released under Shueisha's novel line Jump J Books.

In addition, wasn't it already confirmed that Toei gave 4Kids all licensing rights to the anime in North America? Why would Toei give the license to 4Kids if Viz controls One Piece in North America?

Smoking in PoT and cursing in JoJo. Yet One Piece can still have smoking in the manga and we can hear other Viz titles that are full of cursing.

Uh... Well, not having cursing isn't really an edit. It's just dialogue. Editing would be changing the art, like the smoking in PoT you said. Well, I think they edited the smoking because it's done by a highschooler (is it?), just like they did with Hikaru No Go.

Yeah, in A rated titles all underaged smoking is done away with (and VIz even admits so on the publication page). Not only that, but no more cursing (and it kind of kills the mood).

In the original JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Jotaro drops F bombs left and right. Yet Viz doesn't even bother to write it and has some silly &^#@( crap in place.

They couldn't even say friggen or fricken? Jeez.

Oh and I guess we can yell at them for putting those "Hey Hey Lets Dance All Day" lyrics in place of Parco Folgore "Groping Breasts" in the Zatch Bell manga. They've let more things slide in the manga in terms of action and violence, but they can't even have the song for the manga? It's rated T so teenagers should be able to handle it more than the auidence Viz attracted with the anime.

The Zatch Bell manga translation is aimed at fans of the anime, so of course they were going to change it to be consistant with the dub.

I agree that rating it T and censoring things like that is a bit silly, but it doesn't really affect the plot, and if removing Folgore's breast fetish means I don't have to see Zatch's weiner, I'm all for it.

Jortaro does NOT drop F bombs, and that whole fiasco is due to Viz thinking changing his catchphrase "Yare Yare Dasei" (Close aproximation: "This is anoying"/"Shut up, your anoying me") into a cuss for the hell of it.

Incidently, we might want to watch ourselves, lest this devolves into a nother "X company censored Y manga" Thread again.

It does in DBZ, tell me the two gunmen in the Buu saga are threatning with goofy laser guns?
Thats probably the most realistic violence/drama situation in the series, and Viz edited it more then the Funi dub even...which was aired at 5:00 on a major kids station....as compared to a private medium...
