Episode 12 - "The Will to Win"
US Premiere - Monday, August 21, 2006, @ 7:30PM

After finding out about the Ultimate Prize, Molly's even more determined to win and show her father just who she is. With the Arrow II in total ruins, Stan and Koji are aided by Alwas' own hero racers, who give them parts and send them off, hoping the Earth team can win and make them look good. Rick sees a shaman about The Timeless One, and Rush races against the Crog commander Toros.

The part with the timeless one was nice.

And the plot thickens.
Doesn't look like Molly or Don Wei are going to have the happy reunion just yet. Turns out Toros lead the conquest of Rush's home planet and Rick came face to face with the Timeless One, pitty he doesn't remember exactly what happened or what he saw.
Seems to me the TTO is the yang to the Avatar's yin, which begs the question how do you stop the plans of something that's pretty much a god? Kinda reminds me of the debate from .Hack//Signs.
Also interesting was Flint's & Marcel's help with getting the Earth team parts.
I hadn't really thought about it till they brought up, but the people of Alwos don't have much technology at all in their town yet they had a star racer in the tournament. I always figured it was just because they were in a small fishing village.

10/10:D

Next Time:
Rematch time: Molly VS. Toros

The obvious answer is to pit TTO and the Avatar against each other. After all, two equally powerful electrical charges basically cancel each other out when they come into contact. Maybe the same thing would work here.

The more important question is do they want to stop TTO's plans?

Even if it was to get back some of their pride, the Scrubs deciding to help in Stan & Koji's quest to get replacement parts for the Arrow II was a golden one.

Keeping in tradition in not having an episode without a race: Rush v. Toros. And man... Toros nearly killed Rush in that skirmish! Lucky for him, he's big-boned.

So Don's afraid to find his daughter because he's embarrassed to show his face to her again? Well, guess what, Don? She has already seen your face, and she's not happy you're avoiding her!

And finally... Rick meets the Timeless One. That leads to... what?

7 out of 10 for "The Will to Win."

I don't think Molly fully understands that he's afraid to face her. Her reaction is more like she feels he just doesn't care. Don also locked the box of pictures. I think he's decided not to look back any more. I don't think that will last.

All that Rick learned is gone, yet we're left with TTO phrase "You have served my purpose" or something to that effect. Kinda says everything is going as planned.

Which seems eerily familar to the more Machievelian machinations I suggested for TTO/The Avatar in a previous thread. ;)

As for Don Wei... I don't think its he's decided not to look back. Its he's not sure how to do so without opening up all the old wounds again. From what he said to Rick, its very likely that he saw Maya as literally his entire reason for being and that when she died, it destroyed him. He probably put Molly into a boarding school because at the time he literally couldn't function well enough to care for her. And once he got back into racing, he locked away that part of his life so he could function. At this point, he probably doesn't know how to try and talk to his daughter because doing so would break open all the pain again.
