An interesting thought to be sure...

But the thread author exarrarated. 80% of Cartoon Network's content was NOT anime as of 98-99, there was Toonami from 5-7PM and the Midnight Run from 12-1AM. That's a 3 hour block of solid anime, an hour of which was Dragon Ball Z.

But the question is, where would Cartoon Network be today if Toonami never existed?

I think Cartoon Network wouldn't be most of the markets it is today. It MIGHT even be a premium channel. Now, anime was ALWAYS gonna be sought after, it just still be by old school means, mustly subbed stuff bought from comic book stores, and *whispers* seen on the net. But since Toonami never existed, Cowboy Bebop wouldn't be the universal legend it is now, just an underground legend. Dragon Ball Z would be more of internet phemoninon. No Full Metal Alchemist, Tenchi, Witch Hunter Robin, Gigantor, Big O, Inu Yasha, Yuyu Hakusyo, Wolf's Rain, Paranoia Agent, Gundam, Bo-bobobo, or Hamtaro.

Adult Swim probably would be more like the Sunday night line up, instead of it's own successful channel showing a rotating list of anime. So all your old Willam's Street shows, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Brak Show, Space Ghost, just MUCH less well known. Possibly also Internet Phemoninion.

But the ripples expand out. Since Cartoon Network didn't get to be the big channel it was back in 99, Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff Girls didn't get that big, and probably be unknown. And, years later Family Guy wouldn't have been brought back to life due to reruns, and therefore DVD sales, which means FOX wouldn't have picked it back up. That also means Futurama wouldn't have been brought back to life. That means Sunday nights on FOX would be the Simpsons and maybe a movie when Football season isn't going.

So, choices for good cable would be Sci Fi, TBN, the animation block on FX would have been bigger... good channels, but I still want my CN.

Stephane, are you Rasputin, or does anybody know who that is? They said they are a member here as well.

I'm not "Rasputin" I use the same name, however looks like they have a small glitch with names having an accent.
