Bruce Timm was the guy that resembles most the figure of an Editor in Chief for the DC Animated Universe. The people at Warner Bros should have a person like that to manage the DC comics characters regarding Live Action movies. It would bring more consistency over the various creative teams in each film and actually bring an universe feeling for all movies.

In the comics, there's the Editor in Chief who, despite of having a lot of creative teams working in their titles, manages de whole universe by a larger point of view.

If you were this guy what would you do?

My personal take is:

2005-Batman Begins: I was pleasantly surprised with it. When I think for a first movie for the Batman I was never thinking in something like this. But it was so good, so that's the perfect beggining for the DC Live Action Universe.

2006-Superman Returns: If I was the editor in chief It would happen as a reboot. Corporate Lex Luthor. More agressive Clark Kent. Both Kents alive. Maybe put Bizarro on the first movie to get a more action in the movie. But since it didn't happened that way, let's start with we've got.

2008-The Dark Knight: Red Hood turns into Joker. Slow transformation of Harvey Dent into Two Face. Junior Police Officer, Barbar Gordon, being crippled by the Joker, and becoming Oracle. Catwoman. Joker throwing acid in Harvey Dent's face and turning him into Two face.

2009-Superman sequel (Man of Steel maybe?): Brainiac. It would be nice to see Steel in the movie.

2010-Justice League: A plot that mixes Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern and Aquaman origins. Add to that Greek Gods, Darkseid and Injustice Gang. The Martian Manhunter could be in it too, but I think it's already too crowded.

2011-The third Batman movie: Two face, Penguin, Riddler and Robin.

2012-The third Superman movie: Zod, Supergirl and maybe Conner Kent Superboy.

2013-Second Justice League movie: The Secret Society: Luthor, Ra's, Grood, Vandal Savage, Circe and Orm. Talia, Green Arrow and Black Canary could be in the movie too.

2014-Teen Titans: Robin invetigates a crime in San Francisco and get togheter with the new found Titans: Cyborg, Beast Boy, Starfire, Raven and Terra. Make the movie like Judas Contract, they facing Slade and the Hive. In the end of the movie, Robin becomes Nightwing.

2015-Third Justice League movie: a more out of space story. I think Rann-Thanagar war could be a good start. Throw in the GL corps, Katar and Shayera Hol and a lot of alien races. A brief cameo of the Legion of Super Heroes.

2016-A Legion of Super Heroes movie: they against the Fatal Five. Explain their connections with the Superman.

2017-Second Teen Titans: they fight Brother Blood. Tim Drake appears and becomes the second Robin.

2018-Second Legion movie: The sun eater saga.

2019-Third Teen Titans movie: The Trigon saga.

2020-Third Legion movie: Mordru.

Sorry, but I'm a sucker for continuity. I can't stand it when a triology introduces a character in movie #1 but then has that character vanish in movie #2. I've said it before, Ian McKellen in the X-Men triology is the best character, because even though he's the villain, in each film he's given something different to do, different conflicts to resolve, and character growth. With that said:

"The Dark Knight":

Pay Katie Holmes whatever for her to reprise her role. Seriously. I think it would just be plain dumb to introduce her in Batman Begins and then have her disappear without a trace in the sequel. She was obviously passionate about Gotham City. It would be out of character for her to abandon it. With that said, I'm going to RANT and RAVE about this all the way up to the first script reviews of "The Dark Knight", but I seriously, seriously, seriously believe Katie Holmes' Rachel Dawes character should be the Joker's paramount victim. That's right. He should kill her. Develop her character more, take her character through unexplored territory, but in the end, let the Joker knock her off. Why do I say this? Because Batman walks a fine line between being Gotham's messiah and Gotham's madman. To me, every Batman villain tests a different aspect of Batman's personality (which is why Batman's rogue's gallery is so great). Joker tests Batman's sanity. The Joker doesn't want to kill the Batman. No, the Joker wants to drive Batman insane. The Joker wants to push Batman over the edge and cause him to turn from messiah into madman. In essence, I've always felt the Joker's goal was to turn Batman into a villain, just another Arkham Asylum inmate. This is precisely why, in the comics, the Joker gets to kill everyone. Mr. Freeze never kills anyone important. Neither does Penguin. No, the Joker kills Jason Todd, the Joker cripples Barbara Gordon, the Joker kills Gordon's 2nd wife. If "The Dark Knight" wants to resemble and acknowledge the comics, the Joker will kill Rachel Dawes, a person close to Batman (and Bruce Wayne). This will tests Batman's resolve to stay on the "good" side of law and order. In action, Batman will have to choose whether to throw the Joker in prison for his crime, or kill him. And since Batman is our hero, he won't kill the Joker.

If this doesn't happen in "The Dark Knight" I'm going to be severely disappointed. I just can't see Rachel Dawes' fate as being anything but this. And if Katie Holmes' character doesn't return it'll be a shame and a waste.

I think you're trying to cram a little too much in your movies. The Batman 2008 one especially, you don't want it too cluttered, or it will look like the third X-Men movie. Gordon isn't even commisioner yet, it's to soon to cripple Barbara.

If I was behind DC's live action movies, I'd give both Flash and Green Lantern their own films. After the Big Three, Flash and GL are DC's most popular heroes, and between the two of them they have 0 movies to Batman's 6. That ain't right. Even if they aren't as successful, they deserve a chance. And if GL IS successful, you could make a Green Lantern Corps movie.

I might throw Aquaman in there, but once those five or six are established and a World's Finest movie is done, I'd try for a Justice League movie. I don't know who the villain would be, maybe Starro. I might want to throw in a bunch of super villains or robots for cool fight scenes, though.

I wouldn't just stick with DC's superheroes in the same continuity, though. Something like Jonah Hex would make for an awesome movie.

i would make the superman/batman movie happen (granted, it still can happen and i strongly believe it will but i want official confirmation from warner bros.). dick grayson in the last batman movie (an excellent side story if you ask me, think of it as robin begins), and a solo supergirl movie which has superman in it. i want to see the wonder woman movie get going as well.

I agree with you about the Joker. You nailed him. The great satisfaction for him is to make Batman a madman. But us, as comic fans, would like to see ours comic characters in the big screen. And for the sake of make things simplier I would trade a thousand times Rachel Dawes for Barbara Gordon as the main Joker victim in tDK.

The Joker knows that Gordon and Batman are close. And hurting Barbara is one way to get into Batman. Your philosophy works well for Barbara just as for Rachel.

The only thing missing is the continuity you have talked about. But in my opinion Rachel Dawes was nice, but she took the place of Harvey Dent in Batman Begins. The could have given another love interest for Batman in the first movie. Talia, would have been a good choice, because of Ra's.

About Gordon not being commissioner yet, I don't think this fact is fundamental for the Killing Joke kind of plot. Barbara Gordon being crippled by the Joker is fundamental. And probably the Joker will not return in future movies, so this is the time. They could adjust the fact that Gordon is not a commissioner, but a high ranked police officer.

Of course this is merely fanboy's talk. We are just playing with our anxiety about waiting 2 years to see the real tDK. :)

I love both Batman Begins and Superman Returns, but they both weren't perfect, well no movies are.

Batman Begins: Start with the death of his parents. Give scarecrow some more time and give his costume some tweaking. Other than that, nothing needs changing.

Superman Returns: Keep the idea the same, contuining the Donner franchise. However, I wouldn't have it mirror Superman 1 quite so much. Keep Luthor the same, I thought he was great, but replace Kitty with Mercy. There was alot of confusion about SUperman overcoming kryptonite, so have Kitty saying "How did he do that?" And Lex reply, "No, no, no! The crystals! The crystals must have perged the radiation from the kryptonite!" Or.... Something like thay. Other than that, I thought it was prefect, my favourite superhero movie yet.

Future Films

The Dark Knight: I must admit, I'm not too hyped about this, that said it will most likely be a well made movie batman fans will enjoy. I think it will be an enjoyable Batman Vs Joker rumble.

Superman Returns 2: I have so many ideas for a sequel. General Zod regaining his powers and teaming up with Lex. A kryptonian crystal formed brainiac. But, my favourite is Brainiac/Zod team up, both using the crystals to try and change earth into krypton. With, Lex Luthor on the sidelines. Similar plot to the first only on a larger, more impresive scale, with two super powered villains. Richard dies, but with respect as a hero. Jason learns flight among other things, and Lois is told by brainiac that Clark Kent is Superman. And, after gaining brainiacs body, Luthor uses it to start Lex Corp, and rebuild Metropolis, which has suffered from a devestating blow. What do ya' think?

Wonder Woman: Less of a Superhero movie and more of a mythological adventure. Should be good.

Supergirl: Set between Superman Returns and the sequel, I fun, more low budget flick.

Doom Patrol: A superhero/Thriller approac might work well.

Batman 3: Two face, I'd like the BTAS approach.

Superman 3: This should be the last. I don't want a Superman Forever, Superman and Jason. Anyways, this could be awesome. Lex Corp Luthor, and an Eradicator Doomsday team up! Though, more of a watered down doomsday. Ending with an older Jason leaping a building in a single bound!

No offense, but I'm glad you guys don't run Warner Brothers. :D

Young Justice, you honestly think the moviegoing public would support a dozen more DC superhero movies (never mind comic book superhero movies in general) in the next decade and a half? At least you realized that some of your concepts might be "a little overcrowded"... :ack:

Though I agree Young Justices ideas are a bit crowded, and are a bit to close to the comics, the moviegoing public accepted so many Marvel Comic Book movies, won't they accept a Legion Movie?

I've just wrote it for the sake of being fun to write. I'm not saying that it could happen commercially or it has probabilities of happening.

But if the DC movies continue to be profitable ones I think there's a good chance that other DC comic books get their chance in the Silver Screen. The DCAU is there to make an example. The Animated Legion of Super Heroes is getting their chance in television mainly because of the success of BTAS, STAS, TNBA, BB, JL, JLU, TT and The Batman.

This topic is just as I said, it's fanboy talk. We are going to wait 2 years until the next DC comics superhero film reaches the screen, so we have a lot of time to talk about. :)

If you disagree with my "Editor in Chief" version, maybe it would be interesting to see yours. After all, that's why I've posted it to begin with. To see others opinon's

Heh.

The Power of Hope. A big budget team-up movie. Starring Captain Marvel and Nightwing. Captain Marvel: "the Big Red Cheese" an ever-hopefull young boy living out his dream as the hero of the city. Nightwing: former boy-hero whose dreams have been shattered by experience, now a dark, brooding creature of the night. They team up after some of Nightwing's villains--lets say Blockbuster--has moved to Marvel's city and has started quietly organizing Mavel's villains for a massive scheme. Have the two personalities bounce off each other while they try to uncover the scheme, letting Nightwing lighten up a little and showing Marvel just how naive he is. The main thrust of the movie being to watch Marvel learn to deal with the really bad things that happen in the world--despite everything he does, the evil plot leaves swaths of his city in ruins, plus almost kills Nightwing--without loosing hope. And in doing so, we see him rekindle a spark of hope in Nightwing.

...And if I still have a job after presenting that idea, some less ambitious team-ups. The Blue and the Gold (Blue Beetle and Booster Gold), Fire and Ice (Fire and Ice, duh) maybe a Green Lantern Corps movie... All mid-budget, more family oriented stuff, with hopes of spinning them off into an animated series.

Now, aren't you really glad I don't run Warner Brothers?

I want to see a Nightwing movie more than anything. Couldn't have been any worse than Catwoman.

A Nightwing movie would definitely be cool. I wonder if Huntress will be in any of the Batman movies?

I agree with you Peter. But the difference between you and me is that you are being more reallistic about it, and I am being more of a dreamer.

My ideas are based that all the movies are reasonable profitables. Like Superman Return was. If 2 movies for Batman and Superman are profitable, there's a good chance of a Justice League movie. If the Justice League movie is profitable, there's a good chance of Justice League sequels and maybe a Teen Titans movie. If those are profitable, there's a chance for a Legion of Superheroes movie, and so on.
