I've been wondering for some time whether or not Tetsuwan Atom 2003 was done Digital or Traditional. Awhile back, I saw a Cel of the series, which makes me believe this series was done in traditional. When you compare the opening/ending animations, you can tell the style is different, and not just brighter. Noticably, the colors are a bit murkier (sp?) and what not during the episode (Ignore the grain, as this does seem to have been done on purpose.).

So...does anyone have any ideas?

I'm almost 100% positive it was done traditional. I could swear I read that in an ANN article sometime back, and I can't find it, but I'm pretty certain it was animated and colored as traditional cel animation.

But, I've been wrong plenty before...

I think it was mostly done in traditional, but a couple of the scenes from the opening and some stock shots were done in digital.

It was traditional cell animation. I don't think the coloring was digital. I know at least the base cells were hand drawn, like Disney's movies were until after 2003.

Actually, the first opening was completely digital, or atleast it looks like it anyways. The second opening was a mixture of Digital and Traditional, considering it used some in episode footage. (I'm going off the japanese version, sense this is the version I own DVD)

The characters were all traditional as were a number of the backgrounds, but they also used digital backgrounds and compositing for some of the more complex shots IIRC.

Yep, traditional. I think it was even one of the last anime to be animated by hand.
