To be honest. I don't really follow who the artist is. Their are artists who I think do awesome. While others I cannot believe people like. So I would like to know who are your favorite (CURRENT) comic artists and also whose work you don't like. Include a sample if you can.
All-time fav...Alex Ross

My current fav is Jim Lee. I really like how his stuff is stylized with some realism thrown in for good measure. He also is a detail freak, go read the opening pages of HUSH and you'll see the bottoms of Batman's boots. He knows how to draw Batman very well, even with the Adam West ears. I think alot of artists could take a point or two about how to draw Bats( Im looking at you Alex Ross ). Tho my all time fav is Jack Kirby, all hail the king:p

Are you asking about comic book artists specifically, or artists in general?

When he actually gets around to doing stuff, J. Scott Campbell. He has a way of making the most deadly serious stuff look tongue in cheek.

Rob Liefeld I don't particulary care for. His characters always look so...dead.

Favorite current comic artists?
- George Perez
- Alison Bechdel (Dykes to Watch Out For, if comic strips count)
- Garry Trudeau (Doonesbury)
- Lynn Johnston (For Better or For Worse)
- Joe Staton (Scooby Doo these days, but drew various DC superhero stuff in the past, including a few favorite stories of mine)
Past comic artists:
Curt Swan (http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=29533&zoom=4) - IMO Swan was the definitive Superman artist
Jack Kirby (needs no introduction)
Kurt Schaffenberger (http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=34430&zoom=4) - drew Capt. Marvel back in the 40's, and the "Lois Lane" comic in the 60's, along with other comics...
Carmine Infantino (The Flash)
Jim Aparo (Batman)

I have a hard time picking a single favorite artist but I'll try to narrow them down as best as I can! All in all Bruce Timm always delivers on whatever story he's telling, and he usually mixes it up with his style (however subtley) from story to story keeping things fresh, which is hard to come by in most artists.
Alex Ross is well rounded and just plain amazing at whatever he does. Mike Mignola, despite falling back on a lot of his usual style choices, always impresses me - with his interior pages moreso than his cover work -. Geoff Darrow, who I've not seen enough of, is one of the best artists at perspective that I've ever seen... the background detail and depth of field in his stuff is phenomenal. John Romita Jr. is another well rounded, talented guy that just churns out a lot of quality. I'm really looking forward to seeing Tim Sale do a monthly book, same goes for Darwyn Cooke.
Frank Frazetta is the most inspiring artist I've ever come across, who's been aped constantly and will be aped for years to come by fantasy/sci fi/comic book artists. Frazetta's just one of those artists who I just can't see enough art from.

Evidentally the inquiry is about comic book artists.
In which case, my faves are Peter Laird and Chris Cook (the latter drew my avatar.) :)

Seconded.
I'm also in love with Frank Quitely now that he's learned to draw faces.
Bryan Hitch is also wonderful and I really can't wait to see Jeff Smith do some superhero stuff.

Alex Ross goes without saying. But as far as regular, monthly comic artists:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/noodlepics/original-cvr07ant.jpg
Humberto Ramos. His newer stuff have gone really, really downhill (I'm looking at you Wolverine), but his older stuff was amazing. Crimson still stands as one of my favorite comic series.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/noodlepics/dv4.jpg
Tim Sale. Not very traditional, but he does what he does insanely well. He can draw grit and madness better than anyone else.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/noodlepics/nightwing93.jpg
Patrick Zircher. I really need to find more of his work somewhere. The guy is gold.

Tim Sale is awesome. I prefer the more stylized art as opposed to people who produce the super-realistic stuff. While I think he's quite talented I would never buy anything illustrated by Alex Ross.

I don't know many artists by name, and there's even less than I would say I'm a big fan of in particular, but these are some of my favorites.
BRUCE TIMM (I've since come to the conclusion he's my most favorite)

JIM VALENTINO

TODD McFARLANE

JIM LEE (This is my favorite X-Men cover. I wish I had a second copy that I could remove and frame)

ALEX ROSS (I would love to own some of his work, but I can't afford it)

I also really dug the work Carlos Rodiguez did when the current SHADOWHAWK kicked off.

When I first started getting Superman/Batman, I was not a huge fan of the character designs by Ed McGuinness. They felt a little too cartoony. But in book 2, when they switched to Michael Turner, I found it to be a vast improvement. So I'd say Turner is now one of my favorites, as well as Pia Guerra of Y: The Last Man.

Jim Lee--after reading Hush, although a little flawed storywise, it is probably the greatest story i've read artistically--one of the few artists whom i can actually stop and look at the artwork for hours to take in all the detail--the fight scenes will knock you on your ass.
He just has a way of making even a simple pose stand out and has been very inspirational for me in drawing comic art:cool: ....
He has delivered the best versions of Batman, Superman, and the X-Men that i've ever seen.
