i use to read spiderman, and was thinking about getting back into it, but im not sure which book to pick up. i thought ultimate spiderman would be a good choice, seeing as how all the freaky things spidey went through in the 90s didnt happen, but is ultimate spiderman actually better than the original??
so, which is better, and if not ultimate spiderman, then which of the spidey titles? i dont even know which ones are still out...theres amazing spiderman, spectacular spiderman, peter parker spiderman, am i missing any, or wait, was spectacular spiderman canceled? anyone care to help me out? thanks.

If you want to check out Ultimate Spider-Man, Marvel put all of the issues (except for the latest one) on their Dot Comics (http://dotcomics.marvel.com/) site for people to read online. I think Ultimate Spidey is pretty cool, but I like what J.M. Straczynski is doing with Amazing Spider-Man is doing right now. Marvel also released a couple of Trade Paperbacks of the new spidey stories if you want to check those out.

ANother good one to read would be Spider-man's tangled Web. It focuses on the lives that Spidey effect's. ONe Stroy line was about the Rhino getting an operation to become a genius. It was pretty good, but not as good as the one whcih just ended: Gentlemen's agreement in which a Cab Driver who know's Spidey's Identity. He has come down with Cancer and is struglling over wether he should use that Trust Spidey had in him to get some money for an operation to save himself.

The Ultimate Spidey books are great. I've loved Bendis ever since I first saw his work. Also, Amazing Spidey has been a good book, and so has Tangled Web.
But, and I can't believe no one has mentioned this, I'd almost go as far as to say Peter Parker, Spider-Man is the best Spidey book being published. It's very character oriented, giving Spidey and others great little one-shot pieces.
So, if you're going to get one Spidey book, go for PP.

I read all 4 SPider-Man titles, and here they are from favorite to least:
Ultimate Spider-Man - Bendis has a great pace on this book. I know that not every issue is action filled and action packed, but you can't beat the characterization and art on that title. And the 'ultimate' version of Spidey characters are just great? How about that bad-arse Gwen Stacy? Wow!
Peter Parker: Spider-Man - Jenkins brings everything down to earth in this title. Issue #33 of this title (about Peter and Uncle Ben's annual baseball game) was heart wrenching with a tear jerking ending. Then in isue #34, we get anothe rpowerful issue. Jenkins has begun his first real multi-parter this month starring Doc Ock, and it looks to be great.
Amazing Spider-Man - The hectic schedule of the book is the biggest problem with the book. Other than that, we got a fairly enjoyable book - and it's done pretty good. The art is the best aspect of the bok. John Romita Jr. is doing his best stuff here, as evident in the three last issues, #35 - 37. The story is well done, but doe sleave a bit to be desired.
Tangled Web - An interesting mix off stories. The title has been a bit uneven, but has hit home runs with the recent Gentlemen's Agreement and the amazing Kingpin story that kick started the title.

Any particualr reason?
DG/JH (wow, no I'm confused... :bosko: ), PP #33 is probably the first thing that comes to mind when I think about the most touching story of the year. #35 was great, and so was #37 (I loved when Torch came it). PP is probably one of the most underrated comics on the stands right now. I know it's one of my favorites.

Issue #37 was hilarious. Jenkins has done a great job bringing the wisecracking aspect of Spider-Man back. In issue #39 he gives Spidey one of the best Spidey lines ever "Come back! Im not done laughing at you yet!". Jenkins has done a great job making him so light-hearted - something essential to the character. And in PP:SM #33, the "Then three days later, he was dead" line just jolted me. Jenkins did that perfectly. Thankfully he's in it for the long run!

Uhm.. Hi!
Iīm from Germany and I just found this forum (in Germany we have nearly the same!!)
Let me tell you, that we are with the USP at about the 8th issue!
Do you think USP and UXM are still "IN"?
I heard that the first few issues were in the "top ten" when they were new. Is now also?
P.S.: Sorry for my (probably) bad english but iīve been learning english for 2 years and a half.

Welcome to the board! And don't worry about your English - it sounds great to me!! Ultimate X-Men and Ultimate Spider-Man are still considered very hot titles and continue to seel very well. In fact, Ultimate Spider-Man will be a focus point when the new Spider-Man movie comes out. Marvel will be using that title to urge movie goers into reading comics.
So you just got Ultimate Spider-Man #8. That's a great issue, although is was hard to folowup isue #7 with the Green Goblin showdown!

It was wrong. I donīt have no.8, but 7!
Here we have a special principle with the comics: normally - in all series- in on issue are two american issues. And the series started in march and the first issue had only the number #1.(so the mistake: i multiplicated 4 x2= 8!)
And because of, we donīt have so much comic readers our books are quite expensive (~8 DM ~ 4 $) and the "ultimate" series comes only all two months. But we have a special sort of paper! (and its better than yours, but more expensive)
As I have seen first promotion for the movie, it looked like a USP costume (I donīt know why I didnīt felt like the normal series).
P.S.: Thanx for your comment to my english! So I feel welcomed, also among english speakers! :D
P.P.S.: Please, if I make a mistake in a sentence, could you correct me?
P.P.P.S.: And please tell me: when can I get an Avatar?

of late ALL of the spidey books have been outstanding-- tangled web is a very novel concept i think and quite well done
oddly enough im considering adding Daredevil and Hulk to my pull lists as well-- the teams on these books have got me hooked-- i was never that big of a DD or hulk fan before but the storylines of late have been awesome as has the art

Ok, I haven't read PP in a while, saw he was fighting some squid boy..got fed up.
Neocles..I'll try to keep an eye out for terrible grammer problems for you...and you'll need ten posts till you can get an avatar.
Also, we do have a translation feature now, and is has geman! =D
So if you ever feel unconfortable in english....although I have heard that message boards are good places to practice foreign languages.

Thanx for the tip with the language-translator.
For some times I think it will be helpful, but its German grammer is worse than mine in English! :D

right now I'd say Amazing Spider-man is the best...
Peter Parker: Spider-man hasn't done much for me in terms of story...
Ultimate is a great series but I like the regular Marvel Universe Spidey better...

MY biggest problem with Amazing Spider-Man is it's poor scheduling. The book has been constantly late. I hope Marvel gets it back on track soon.
