"City Slickers" actor Bruno Kirby dies

I was shocked to learn last night that actor Bruno Kirby passed away, from complications related to leukemia. He was only 57.

CITY SLICKERS is one of my favorite comedies, and I thought he was really good in it. My favorite moment with him is the Best Day/Worst Day scene, where he talks about finding out his father had been cheating on his mother when he was a kid.

He will be missed. RIP, Bruno.

Kirby had a good funny role in 'The Freshman', too. I loved the scene where he tries to sooth Matthew Broderick's objections to being relocated, as part of a witness-protection plan, to Polermo Sicily:

BRODERICK: I don't want to live in Polermo!
KIRBY: Have you ever been there?
BRODERICK: No!
KIRBY: Then you can't really make an informed judgement about it, can you?

There's been a distrubingly large number of leukemia deaths this summer. My favorite Iditerod winner, Susan Butcher, recently died if the same disease, and she was only 51.

May they both rest in peace.
