I've already posted this in the Civil War mini-series talkback, but I believe something this big deserves its own thread. A mod may delete that post if they want, but I feel this is something every Civil War reader should know about.
We're going to have to wait a little longer to get our hands on a couple of Civil War titles, including the main mini-series, Frontline, and the Tie-Ins.
Civil War # 4 (of 7) & Fantastic Four # 440 have been delayed until September 20, 2006.
Amazing Spider-Man # 535 & Civil War: Frontline # 6 (of 11) have been delayed until September 27, 2006.
Civil War: Frontline # 7 (of 11) has been delayed until October 11, 2006.
Civil War # 5 (of 7) has been delayed until November 15, 2006.
Civil War: Frontline # 8 (of 11), Amazing Spider-Man # 536, Fantastic Four # 541, & Punisher War Journal # 1 have all been delayed until November 22, 2006.
Civil War # 6 (of 7) & Civil War: Frontline # 9 (of 11) have been delayed until December 20, 2006.
Punisher War Journal # 2 has been delayed until December 28, 2006.
Civil War: Frontline # 10 (of 110, Amazing Spider-Man # 537, & Fantastic Four # 542 have been delayed until January 4, 2007.
Civil War # 7 (of 7) has been delayed until January 17, 2007.
Amazing Spider-Man # 538 & Fantastic Four # 543 have been delayed until January 24, 2007.
New titles have also been added to the Civil War Tie-In Checklist:
Black Panther # 23 and Civil War: War Crimes ship in December 2006.
Black Panther # 24 ships in January 2007.
Black Panther # 25 and Civil War: Frontline # 11 (of 11) ship in February 2007.
Casualties of War is part of the aftermath of events in Civil War and will be marked as such on the covers of its books, like Spider-Man Unmasked and Road to Civil War. The books included in Casualties of War are:
Moon Knight # 7, shipping in November 2006
Moon Knight # 8, Captain America: Winter Soldier Special, and Iron Man/Captain America Special shipping in December 2006
Moon Knight # 9 and Blade # 5, shipping in January 2007

I'm not sure how to feel about this. On one hand, I hope that these delays and additions will improve the story, which is great already. On the other hand, I'm unhappy that we have so many delays.
I hope these are the only delays we'll see, but I'm not counting on it.

I know Civil War is a big Marvel event, but to keep the other thread from getting too big, the "Civil War" thread should be for actual discussion of the contents of the comic book itself, not for news of this sort. I deleted your post from the "Civil War" thread. Let's discuss this news here instead, (and it is pretty upsetting news, to me anyway)...
I realized a week or two ago that the main Civil War miniseries was running behind, but not it's been confirmed. And not only has it been confirmed, but we have to wait till late September before getting the next issue?!?
This just reveals the flaw in having your entire product line centered around the events of one miniseries: All of the rest of the tie-in's are on hold as we wait for the main miniseries to get caught back up.

I agree, wonderfly. Also, I edited my post to reflect your change.
Seeing all the delays has me worried about the other Civil War tie-ins. Let's look at all the books that remain undelayed but are still part of the Civil War:
Cable/Deadpool
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Captain America
Civil War Files
Civil War: X-Men
Civil War: Young Avengers & Runaways
Heroes For Hire
Iron Man
The Irredeemable Ant-Man
Ms. Marvel
New Avengers
Sensational Spider-Man
She-Hulk
Thunderbolts
Wolverine
X-Factor
These books, included with the already announced delayed books, make up most of Marvel's comics. What happens if Marvel decides more delays are necessary? I understand that Marvel wants to put out good quality products, but it's not a good idea to delay said products when so many people are expecting them to be finished before they're offered. It's also a bad idea on Marvel's part to delay a book the day before it's released. I'll tough it out like I've done with Marvel's other stupid moves, but I'm not happy about the delays. I believe Marvel owes us for this one.

I expected there to be slight delays around the 6th or 7th issue, but to have a delay of over 2 months between the 3rd and 4th issue?!? Unacceptable...
I wonder if the delay is because of Millar's health, or because the artist is slow...or because they are changing the plot of the final issues...

I knew it was too good to last. There goes another mayor crossover down the drain.

The delay maybe bad, but if you have such a tight intergration with an even as Marvel has shown you have to bite the bullet. I would rather they have quality over a need to make money.

Howdy,
Artist Steve McNiven has publicly apologized and attempted to explain the delay (http://pwbeat.publishersweekly.com/blog/2006/08/16/mcniven-speaks-fans-forgive/), partially in response to a comment by Bryan Hitch about other classics of the genre that shipped late (i.e., Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns).
If nothing else, this exposes the flaw in building up nearly your entire comic book line around a single crossover event. I nearly called it the "fatal flaw," except I don't believe for an instant that anybody currently reading the series now is going to do anything except complain about the delay. I don't expect sales will be affected at all.

Oy. This is NOT good. The sales will suffer, the retailers will suffer...to drop or not to drop? That is the question...

I disagree. The problem here is that Millar is for understandable reasons, a slow writer, they hired on an artist who has very detailed pencils that take time, and didn't give the two that much of a headstart.
If they had waited to launch the series in June then there really wouldn't be a problem.
What we have to give Marvel credit for though is that Civil War doesn't have to come out late. They could just hire on a fill-in artist to do an issue, or have a team of artists instead doing sloppy work which would deliver something ugly looking like Infinite Crisis. The delay sucks, but at least the quality of the book will be kept.

Its not just a delay, they are adding issues as well, Moonlight and Black Panther. And extended Frontline by 1 issue.

Howdy,
In his latest "Permanent Damage" column, Steven Grant explains why the delay in Civil War doesn't reflect well on anybody concerned (http://www.comicbookresources.com/columns/index.cgi?column=pd&article=2563), except for the comic book direct market retailers. They're just going to be seriously hosed for a month or more as their cash flow takes a solid hit. Considering a lot of comic fans and comic shops don't stretch much beyond the Big 2, it wouldn't surprise me if this delay is causing some stores to be looking at some seriously hard times, if not bankruptcy, as a result of the Civil War delays.
