View Full Version : Invader Zim Is Cancelled.

..I think I've lost my faith in animation.
Crappy animated films, crappy television shows, an Adult Swim block that has mocked themselves with their crappiest mistake ever(Adult Swim Action, which is more like Teen Swim Sometimes-Action)...
And now this.
Wally(voice actor of The Almighty Tallest Red), and Richard Horvitz(voice actor of Invader Zim) have declared that Nickelodeon has pulled the plug on Invader Zim, and is scrapping all episodes currently in production.
Why? They didn't say why, but I know why.
W. G. A.
The Writer's Guild Association. Look it up.
They came to Nickelodeon to try and get residuals for the Nicktoon writers. Unfortunately, Nickelodeon CHEATS THE SYSTEM, ILLEGALLY, and will -never- give the writers residuals.
The problem is that the WGA didn't give up. And they should've.
Because of the WGA, The Proud Family is on The Disney Channel(originally a Nicktoon), Constant Payne is canned, Invader Zim is canned, and writers are out of their jobs.
I'm sure residuals were important, but man! I'm sure the writers would be happier with a STEADY PAYCHECK! SHEESH!

DAMN IT!!!
Nickelodeon! What's wrong with you?
Do you really hate your fans that much? I mean, what the Hell?
Do all Nick executives cancel the good shows to make room for the crap or what?
After Rocko's Modern Life ended, I stopped watching Nick until about 2 months ago when I saw an episode of Invader Zim.
It looks like I'll be doing the same thing again.

Yeah, but Nick is still the guilty party here. I think that should be kept in mind.
So that leaves the only decent animated series being produced in the US as Justice League and Samauri Jack? Bleak days indeed.

Unfortunately I believe Nick owns the rights to all things Zim, as is with anything the have produced for them (Constant Payne is an exception because the series was never produced and thus the right reverted back to the creator).
And Matt, there’s still hope for Constant Payne, the creator said on his Website that since the rights to the series reverted back to him he plans to sell it to one of Nick’s competitors. Vive la Payne!
At least I no longer have anything to keep me watching Nick. THANK YOU VERY MUCH NICK!!! Now if you'll excuse me I feel the need to go out and kill something.

A little update: they will show the rest of season one and only 6 episdoes of season 2. That's only 26 episodes. 14 episodes were canned from season 2.

Jhonen Vasquez deserved better than this. He's very talented and Invader Zim was incredible. Do any of you think that he could wrangle the comic book rights away from NICK (if he doesn't have them already)? An Invader Zim comic book would be the least that NICK could allow Jhonen could do.

Oh my, was I suprised when I found this! My rage towards Nickelodeon is incomprehensible. This is, in my opinion, truly the single worst thing that Nick has ever done to a show, EVER. I am glad that they apparently will be airing the remaining episodes that have been created, but this is just sad.

Those bastahds!
I mailed them a hate letter. Here is is for your visual-ranting pleasure.
Greetings, o defeators of the legal system. First off, I STRONGLY dislike the nickelodean network, but you managed to come across two honestly decent Cartoons. Invader Zim and Spongebob. Now they're gone. The spongebob crew left of their own accord, but Zim...oh, no, they couldn't take it any more. They couldn't stand your policy of not paying residuals. If that's not bad enough, you squat on the rights to your older shows. Rocko, a brilliant piece of animation, can only be seen in the very early morn on your MTV clone known as Nick. You butcher Pinky and the Brain and Animaniacs to turn it into some wierd propoganda. You cram some cheap 'Dexter' clone with big hair every waking moment of the day down our proverbial throats, you air more crappy pop music than a Radio station run entirely by a group of 12 year old girls coming of age and with an infinate supply of 'J-14' magazines. You turned rugrats into a bad word. The show ACTUALLY USED TO BE GOOD. Now look at it! You felt the need to turn everything on the network into something PC. Rugrats Kwaanza? Not to be racist, but that holiday hasn't even existed for 50 years. What's next, Rugrats Ramadan? With quality programming such as 'Taieena', 'The Amanda show' and 'Rocket power', the only thing keeping you alive is the herd-mentality of today's youth and those blasted, politically correct babies. So in short, thanks for cancelling Zim, ya bastards! At least Payne got away.
May you choke on a Rugrats gummy snack!
God, I hate them! I HATE THEM I HATE THEM I HATE THEM!
Yevon, PLEASE let another network pick up Zim.

While I don't like alot of shows they're running right now because they're all kinda boring, especially stuff like Spongebob. I thought Invader Zim was ok but never really watched it but Nick is truly going with WB. If Nick wants to succeed, they're gonna have to THINK. Alot of their shows are dead or dieing, like All That! It used to be a great show and I know everyone got too old to do it but geez, who the heck are these new people and did they even take acting classes? The only time I really watch Nick anymore is for Nick at Night. Nick is definitely gonna lose ratings by doing this, and as baby Plucky put it when Tiny Toons was on there: "go down the hole!"
"I'm gonna sing the doom song now! [Nick will face it's] doom doom doom doom doom doom doom doom doom doom doom"
Oh yeah, and exactly why did Nick need to butcher the opening to Animaniacs? I finally caught it at the very beginning for the first time since it's been back on Nick and just wonder why they needed to cut up the intro and add the giant orange screen on there at the beginning? It's stupid.
Evil Dr. Reef
01-18-2002, 04:10 PM
Yes.
Nickelodeon IS stupid. Here's an excerpt from the latest Board Exec. meeting:
"Hey guys! In an effort to save a couple of bucks, let's cancel Invader Zim! Why should writers need money anyway?"
"Hey! That's a good idea! It's the only good show we have, but let's get rid of it! It'll make room for the Rugrats Festivus Special!"
Damn you to Hell, Nickelodeon.
Karkull
01-18-2002, 11:02 PM
I'll bet that's why they created that incredibly stupid show Butt Ugly Martians--they pulled a Smallville on them (like how WB cancelled Roswell so they could do the very similar Smallville)!
Die, NICK execs, die. I wish that Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Happy Noodle Boy could pay them a visit...

and here it is on Saturday morning that the petition has reached nearly 2100 signatures. I'm 2080, myself. I really hope that the show returns, but not on Nick. It'd just be the same thing all over again.
Addendum: The petition has exceeded 2100 sigs (granted some people signed more than once, but still...). The show has really brought people together; it's as if people are signing at the rate of 3 a minute. Also, I can't believe how crude and immature some people are being about this. Those people are only offending the network instead of inviting them to bring the show back...but then again, Nick is a lost cause like I said earlier so they should appeal to a smarter network.

Yes, this is very upsetting. There must be something more that we can do. We are also planning a real-life signature petition at an Anime convention in MD (if things work out right there will be a Zim booth near the entrance ^_^ )
My sister and I are the ones that put up that petition. We only started the petition yesterday at 10:00 AM eastern time) and there are already 2682 signatures. I think it would be really great if Zim was to be picked up by another station as well.

Guys, those who haven't already, head over to TZN and then click on the new "Zim" article and it has a link to the petition. I encourage both fans and non-fans to sign it. Cartoon Network in reality, could pick it up if fans show enough interest. Then, an investment like this would make sense for the network. Spread the petition across the net!

Okay, time for me to give MY late opinion! :D
I have become a fan of Zim when this was announced. It sucked.
This show was very original, and had EXCELLENT animation. The plots didn't just cater to 5-year old minds, the animation was excellent, the plots were very funny, the chars were VERY dynamic, and did I mention good animation? ;)
I'm dissapointed Nick decided to cancell one of its best shows and pretty much decided to replace it with Butt-Ugly Martians. However, CN is showing how smart it is by taking up Zim is good for me, always.

As long as Disney keeps placing certain body parts hidden in the backgrounds of their cartoons(That isn't a tower! ;) ) Johnen shouldn't be bothered by Nick's cries.
Jhonen's work is sick & twisted. Did they honestly think he'd make some happy kids show? Then Nickelodeon is much dumber than we thought. Jhonen needs a network where he can be free to do crazy shtuff....And CN seems to be the last alternative....
