I'm not talking about musical scores or anything... I'm talking about songs that talk about the type of life Batman leads, either directly or indirectly...

I searched online... and found a song called "I whupped batman's ass."

that one song by U2 is good, "hold me, kiss me, thrill me, kill me" (?)

I don't really like seal's "kiss from a rose" Couldn't understand it.

But compared to numerous NUMEROUS songs about superman... no one does the Bat justice.

All the Batman songs I find seem to make fun of him. There are some real good ones at www.mp3.com

Could it be that Superman never had to suffer being stereotyped as a campy show? The stigma of that 60's Batman show lives on, I really do believe, and that continues to show in the music.

As much as people love it, Superman suffers a similar stigma from the Superman movies. From them people infer that he's a boy scout, Clark is a wimp, and Lois is stupid and a shrew. Plus he's ridiculously powerful (super-kiss!) hero that fights lame villains like the Nuclear Man.

Both Supes and Bats are picked on, but a lot of song writers just seem to be able to make a lot more songs concerning Superman, in a good way, then they do Bats. I really wish someone would make a song relating to Batman the way FFF did with Superman.

No one mentioned R. Kelly's "Gotham City," but I think Seal's "Kiss From A Rose" is way better anyway.

Even Aquaman has a decent song out there. It's a parody of FFF's Superman song, but it's actually good. I know I posted this on the JL board, but that tends to get less traffic than this one. Share the music, people.

Click on the link to the Aquaman song and it'll download itself. You have to unzip the file yourself.

ah yes...that aquaman song..lol. I love that one..

I think the thing is, people feel sorry for Superman, because everybody likes Batman better. Ya know, Batman's NEVER picked on by people, but everybodys like "OOO...superman.haha"...and maybe musicians can "Relate" to Superman more..

anyway..I need to go listen to that aquaman song again...

I do have a good song on a CD that I made into an MP3 called "Superhero Me." It's not just about Batman, tho, it's about the entire Justice League. It's only two minutes long.

Also, The Who did a cover of the 1960s Batman theme. There's some other songs based on the old Batman series at http://www.inmusicwetrust.com/articles/07r03.html

Now I kind of want to hear what "Batman A Go Go" sounds like. :p

And a list of Batman soundtracks at http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:F75lsTgSb1EC:www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Film/3580/Sondtrak.html+&hl=en

And a list of Aquaman songs at http://www.eskimo.com/~tegan/aqua/media/music.html

I remember liking the one by Skavoovie & the Epitones.

My guess why there's less Batman songs than Superman ones is that it's just easier to write songs about Superman, really. Superman has a lot of super-powers and that's usually what the songs about him are based on, his powers. Batman doesn't have powers and is an obsessive guy who hangs out in a cave. While I really like Batman, I don't know how many songs you can get out of that.

has anyone ever seen the Unforgiven music video? it plays Metallica's Unforgiven to scenes from Mask of the Phantasm, its a good video and when you you hear the song, you could say it seems like Metallica intended for the song to be about Batman/Bruce Wayne. Its a cool video my only problem is, that its the ONLY fan made music video out there, while they make countlless videos of DBZ and other animes, I think the super hero cartoons need some more too...if anyone here knows how to make that kind of thing MAKE SOME PLEASE!

R. Kelly's "Gotham City" (from Batman & Robin ) was a good song but it says that it's a city of justice, love, and peace. That's not exactly true considering the number of freaks that reside in Gotham. This song probably describes how Batman personally wants Gotham to be.

Seal's "Kiss from a Rose" (from Batman Forever) was an awesome song (my fave). I think that the song was more focussed on the romance between Batman/Bruce Wayne (Val Kilmer @ the time) and Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman). Because Chase able to soothe Bruce about his constant memories of his parents. She was the light on the dark side of Bruce, which is Batman.

Personally, i think "Natural Blues" by Moby is a good song that kinda potrays the "blues" Batman has day & night...

oh lordy, trouble so hard
oh lordy, trouble so hard,
don't nobody know my troubles but God
don't nobody know my troubles but God

went down the hill, the other day
my soul got happy and stayed all day

oh lordy...

went in the room, didn't stay long,
looked on the bed and brother was dead

oh lordy...

i dunno bout the "soul" line, but i think it would work

Gothamite, I think the discussion is about songs directly about Batman, not songs that make you think about Batman.

I guess a lot of artists aren't very familiar with Batman, especially his motivations and story and stuff.

Well, there is Sheryl Crow's song, My Favorite Mistake, that goes:

Did you know when you go
It's the perfect ending
To the Batcave I was just beginning
When you go all I know is
You're my favorite mistake

Well, she COULD be singing that! :p

Although Batman is my favorite character in the DCU, Green Lantern gets less fare. There is an old '60's song called "Sunshine Superman" with the line:

"Superman and Green Lantern ain't got
a thing on me."

I will admit, R Kelly's "Gotham City" is better than "Kiss From a Rose" which is in turn better than Prince's crap on the first film.

Well, that's to be expected. Superman and Batman are at least recognizable names by almost everyone, Green Lantern less so (Yes! There are actually people who don't read comics and/or watch cartoons! Wacky, huh?).

Yeah, I'm a dork. You think I'd remember that there is at least one Batman song titled Gotham City. Which has already been said. I came across it when playing piano, that song is loads of fun to play. When i scanned the lyrics, I have to agree, the stuff about a city of love, justice and peace just make me laugh, unless they mean to talk about what kind of a city Gotham isn't. I really want to see that Metallica video though, sounds cool.

I can see songs more easily written for Superman than Batman (Batman doesn't look like a song type person :p ). Ballads like FFF's "Superman," fits Superman, in style and character. It'd be cool to have a good Batman song, but the work lies in having the right kind of music to fit Batman's personality and style (I guess that's why musical scores work well), and good lyrics that do that same.

Mmmm, when I read your post about the song Gotham City, I was thinking about saying something clever about being sure to wear flowers in your hair if you visit Gotham City......

nope, I forgot, I'm not clever.
