View Full Version : Something about Smallville that impresses me

I think Smallville is one of the first shows I've seen that seamlessly integrates its website into the show. Not only have we seen the show's characters visiting the site, but it also gives more background info that people might be wondering about. It makes the show more "realistic." For example, there's an article on the web site about Smallville considering itself "the capital of car wrecks," something a lot of us have noted a lot. I just thought this was pretty cool

...or it is a wonderful promotional utility and frankly a gigantic gimmick for the series.....

What do you think a tie-in website is for, cooking recipes? Of course, it's a gimmicky promotional "utility"...and there's nothing wrong with that. :D

No, there's nothing wrong with it, but I hardly think it's anything to advocate either.

I enjoy that too. Even though its a gimick to attract people to the show, I find it cool.

Why not? Both the fans and the show get something out of it. Just because it helps to advertise the show doesn't mean it's tainted.

It is directly connected to the show, so obviously it's a gimmick, a ploy, an ad, whatever you want to call it. But it's still cool, because it gives you different reasons to visit compared to the norm of checking out character bios, episode guides, and whatnot. It's a novel idea.

I agree Failure. And the ploy, gimmick is very cool. It is a great way to let the viewers join in on the show in some way. whoever thought up that idea was a very smart businessman/woman.

Everything in advertising and on TV is a gimmic and a ploy in some way, some just disguise it better. Rather than picking on the website with the series, I say we embrace it. I personally love it. I wish they had something like this with the Lone Gunemen!

I dont really remember what the Lone Gunmen web page was like. It was very cryptic, wasnt it? They should've explained what happened in that 2 parter we never saw. Or did they and am I just oblivious to it?

Why? Because in my eyes it's style over substance, I'd like to see programmes such as Smallville spend more time on making the show something special and unique than relying on 'gimmicks' - however enjoyable you may find them.
For me, Smallville really has done very little - exec suits have been looking for excuses to take superheros out of uniform for years and they've finally got one. For me, Smallville just joins the queue in the growing line of Buffy clones.
But that's just me - don't let me spoil your enjoyment.

I won't. The show is already special and unique.
