View Full Version : Gargoyle names
Ok, so none of the Gargoyles originally had names, with the exception of Goliath who was the leader. So how come Hudson never had a name when he was leader prior to Goliath?

Goliath didn't have a name because he was leader. We don't know who gave him the name. Probably not Prince Malcolm (whom Hudson dealt with when he led the clan).
My personal theory is that Princess Katharine gave him the name... she was very bigoted against gargoyles, so he was given the name of a Biblical villain.

I thought it was the captain who named him Goliath.
Though it's funny that the captain himself was never given a name in the show, for being the Gargoyles only real ally for most of the awakening flashback and betraying his friends it's funny he was never named.

His name is actually Robbie. But not giving him a name in the series was intentional. He was more like one of the gargoyles than one of the humans at Castle Wyvern.

The rest of the clan got names from areas around NYC: Brooklyn (after the city in New York); Lexington (after a NY street); Broadway (the street of theaters) and Hudson (the old wise one) was named after the river. Demona was named by Lord McBeth, for when he saw her fighting he said, "she fights like a demon".

Once again, wrong question.
'naming things' is a human habit, Gargoyles don't feel the need to do so. We all know that.

Habit's not really the word for it. It's all about the cultural differences between humans and gargoyles. And things were changing. Hudson led the clan without a name, but Goliath and Demona were given names. The hatchlings were raised among humans. And by the time of the world tour... Names in Britain going back at least to WW2, unclear in Ishimura... and Guatamela's remaining clan were all named after their pendants- which makes me think the others might've been nameless.
