i really hope it does, the current rotj cover art sucks big time, imo.

How would you tell them apart if they had the same cover?

dc_gothamite

they should use the cover for the ROTJ comic adaptation...now THAT is a true vid cover even though it wuz for the comic... Craig Rousseau kicks ass

Now that you mention it, I would like to see his take on Batman Beyond.

He did a lithograph awhile back...

But you know what would be REALLY cool? A new Bruce Timm pencilled cover with Alex Ross's paint over it. After the cover to JL Adventures #1, I'm convinced that that would rule.

I remember awhile back they said it'd have a different cover, possibly somthing saying not for kids....*shrugs* just rumors...

could be why we haven't seen the cover art for it yet though..

14 months? Well, depends on the way you look at it:

January, 2000: Return of the Joker is announced (I specifically remember reading the article).

November 7th, 2000: The first official release date for the uncut version.

October 31st, 2000: Second official release date.

December, 2000 (can't remember the exact date): Return of the Joker is released, full of cuts.

So, really, we've been waiting for the real version for two years now, and it'll be 28 months by the time it comes out. Wow, can't believe it's been that long.

I've heard two versions of how the ROTJ cover art will go down:

-Simply the original cover art with a Parental Guidance Suggested sticker slapped on it.

-New cover art, or the current cover art will be slightly altered to amke it different. Not sure how - but that's just what I heard.

Yeah, it needs something on it warning parents....and stupid shop owners.

I swear, I've told the people @ Hastings two or three times that even the edited version of RotJ shouldn't be in the CHILDREN'S section! I've told them there are people getting killed..*sigh*

It's animated, must be for kids...fracking morons

James Harvey

Preaching to the uneducated, naraht, is like talking to a wall! I see the same thing. I think the unedited version will actually have a PG rating, until the edited version, with no rating (sorta backwords...). It may also have a sticker saying that "Parental Guidance is Suggested".

Bird Boy
01-18-2002, 03:24 PM
I think it just should just have a sticker on it like the Anime DVDs do (IE: "13 up"). It'd make a bigger impression on parents than a "Parental Guidence suggested"...but then again, parents aren't very strict these days, are they? ;)

Who gives a crap, I'd hate to think that I couldn't handle the contents of the Unedited ROTJ when I was a little kid. You can't baby them their whole lives.

well, think about it. Would you honestly want to show a 6 year old a laughing kid, holding a gun, and shooting a clown who's bleeding?

Heck, that last part where Tim did nothing but cry/laugh freaked me out.

There is a high chance the kid would have nightmares about it.

And I'm not saying all kids couldn't handle it, maybe you could've, but, all I'm saying is, I'd keep it away from anyone under 12...

I dont think it would be a bad idea to put Babs and Harl on the cover, but as Bruce Timm said over and over and OVER again, this is Terry's movie.

But then again, everyone who likes ROTJ likes it first and foremost b/c its based entirely on the old series in the way that it is a bridge from (the entire)BTAS to BB.

go babs, kick some harl boo-TAY!!!! :D :) :D :) :p ;) :) ;) :D ;)

I'm thinking it'll probably be the original cover art with "unedited version" or something like that below the title, plus a "Parental Guidance Suggested" sticker on it. It's cheaper that way.

That's the likely route they'll take. Don't be surprised if that's all they do. I bet they'll also tinker with the logo abit, maybe. Changing the color and what not. And I've deleted Sassy's posts becuase they aren't appropriate in this thread.

i don't the cover art to have "parental guidance suggested." that will just ruin the box. and i don't want a sticker either; if you don't peel the sticker off correctly or it is one of those super adhesive stickers, it will leave a mark on the box which i don't want. if the sticker is on the wrapping, i could live with that.

Here's a crazy idea.

Give the Joker a white face on the unedited version.

James Harvey
01-18-2002, 10:20 PM
I bet it'll be a sticker on the wrapping and a "PG" rating in the back where they jam all that stuff on the bottom back cover. It won't be anything drastic. I'm trying to get ahold of WBHV about it.

I'm trying to get ahold of WBHV about it.I don't know if it'll be drastic, but I'd imagine they'll do something easily distinguishable, even if it's just changing background colors just to avoid consumer confusion with the coinciding re-release and the existing stock of the edited DVD.

HA! If they did that, though, they'd ruin the coordination of colors in the picture. It would look out of place.

The sticker will be on the shrinkwrap, I'm pretty sure...

Well, if WB really cares about letting people know which version they're picking up (namely violence-cautious parents and the like), it'll be redesigned enough to get the point across.

Hey, Dick Grayson, I used to work in a video store, and I'm pretty sure the brochure that was sent out to report the release has a picture of the cover art...

James Harvey
01-19-2002, 01:31 AM
Anychance you could scan it and email me the brochure? I'd love to see this! If not, then don't worry! I am interested to see if WB will treat this DVD differently.

What about sub-Zero?, cause it's got about 3 different designs i've seen so far, 2 are pretty much the same only the name and the Batsymbol have been switched.
And i've seen a really dark version with freez in the middle and Batman on the background. It was sorta red with black.

Vin

Why not just have a cover which has the "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker" logo on it? Have the red logo on a black background. That'll definitely distinguish it from the original.

James Harvey
01-20-2002, 02:52 PM
That would be awesome! That is a great design idea, Vince. Heck, it'd even give something the snapper case to blend into so it doesn't look so ugly ontop of the cover art!

Thanks Jim. I really think it would look much more maturer with the red logo on black. Doesn't have to be fancy, but it would distinguish it from the edited version. Plus, it could be seen as a "mature" Batman film, more like the 1989 "Batman" movie, then an animated one by just changing the cover art.

Unfortunately, I don't. I USED to work in a video store, and I'm just assuming. Those brochures normally have the artwork for the upcoming releases...

Maybe someone else can help...?

James Harvey

That's cool. I would like to see the brochure. I thought WB would already have a website up advertising these. Why am I not suprised that they dont?

Fear not! If experience tells me anything, and it has a way of telling me things, PREVIEWS will have the cover art for it in the upcoming issue (which comes out either this week or next) in the video section. Watch for it.

Another interesting point: Amazon.com has it up for preorder, but no cover scan yet :(

I thought WB would already have a website up advertising these. Why am I not suprised that they dont?Do you mean a site whose sole purpose is to advertise these Batman DVDs? I think the web is too cluttered with those sorts of largely useless, repurposed-EPK sites anyway.

The original cut of ROTJ, FWIW, is listed (without cover art) on Warner Home Video's site. Pretty much every reputable online retailer has these discs listed, but none have the cover art. It's a safe bet that Warner just hasn't sent it out yet. Maybe they're still working on the best way to differentiate this release from the edited version, which is being re-released at the same time...

I've been trying to get in contact with some folks I know at WBHV/know people at WBHV and it seems that they are going to reveal it "soon". I a meager to see whether it will be a dissapointment of a welcome suprise.

Man, if they don't have the cover art YET, it's going to be a rush job. Watch.

Wouldn't surprise me. Cover art is usually revealed, or available sometimes 4 months before a DVD hits. This really isn't a good sign...
