this is for PS2/GC/XB

Kingdom hearts outsold Final Fantasy 10(#11) and Super Mario(#9)

top three are GTA, Halo, and Gran Tourismo(not Madden, my error, Madden is #4)

The Tekken series has a spot as does Vitrua Fighter 4

50 Bullet Proof made the list

It's interesting to say the least, licenced games make up the minority of the list.

Glad to see Prince of Persia is on the list, even if its so low.

I just recently picked up the first Splinter Cell - had no idea the series was that popular.

That article needs a better title. We still have a lot of century left to go... ;)

Some of these are kind of obvious (Sunshine sold so well because it was the successor to SM64, Halo... is Halo, etc), the fact that Vice City is #1 in unit sales is very very surprising.

I think their numbers are outdated/lacking. I know of specific titles that aren't on the list having outsold specific titles that are on the list.

Yeah, some of those seem a little fishy. It's cool to see GTA:VC at the top. I really wonder if that was PS2 only sales or if PC/Xbox was included.

62. Scooby-Doo: Night of 100 Frights(PS2)

-This sold 920,000 copies!?!

52. Mario Party 4(GC)

- Even in it's fourth installment, it managed to go Platinum. Talk about wide appeal.

17. Dragonball Z: Budokai(PS2)

- This isn't surprising since DBZ still is popular. 1.7 million copies is expected.

5. Super Smash Bros. Melee(GC)

-I'm not surprised to see this up here. I'm a little bit surprised that I thought it sold more than the 3.2 million. I thought it was somewhere in the 5 million range.

1. GTA: Vice City(PS2)

- GTA at the top? What a shocker. Didn't know Vice City sold 7 million copies.

They combined sales figures of the series and releases in total

so it's all systems and all series intsallations on the lsit

Looking at the Final Fantasy listing it combines X,X-2, Xi, and Crystal Chronicals

Good KH deserves to sell more than FFX and Sunshine. It's a far better game IMO.

Smash Bros. #5? I'll take it.

Lol at Enter the Matrix being on there. What a trap that was.

From what I understand, it was just the PS2 version, they didn't include multi-platform numbers. I.e. the unit number for GTA PS2 is different than GTA for PC/XBOX. Not to mention, that the list is only console games, not PC.

They only used FFX because it was the highest selling title in the FF series on this current generation consoles. The part about mentioning X-2, XI, and Crystal Chronicles is talking about the subsiquent games that followed, and are included in the "franchise numbers", not "title".

Example:

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Rockstar / Rockstar North
Platform: PS2
Released: October '03
Estimated Sales: 7 Million (For the PS2 version alone)
Revenues: $300 Million
Franchise Sales: 22 Million (GTA3, Vice City, San Andreas)
Game ranking: 94.1%
OFH: San Andreas GTA 3 (Sequels to the game at hand)

Final Fantasy X
Square Enix
Platform: PS2
Released: December '01
Estimated Sales: 2.3 million (FFX for PS2 alone)
Revenues: $95 million
Franchise Sales: 4.6 million (FFX + X-2 + XI + Crystal Chronicles)
Game ranking: 91.2%
OFH: X-2; XI; Crystal Chronicles (Games that followed FFX on current gen systems)

That's how I've come to understand this list.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.

The rankings are figured by the highest-selling game, based on the highest sales on one single platform. You're looking at it the exact opposite way of how it's figured; they're going for maximum conservatism.

I don't doubt the data they do have, but I think they're missing something, and their method is spurious.
