With all this talk about Toonami in the US, I'm not suprised that the UK Toonami is getting as much attention as it's US counterpart. All that the UK Toonami shows these days is Dragon Ball Z, Tenchi Muyo, Batman Of The Future, Gundam Wing, X-Men: Evolution and The Real Adventures Of Johnny Quest. And that's about it really, all I am asking is that Cartoon Network US should bring more of their Toonami shows to the UK. But it looks like Toonami UK is not doing as well as it's US counterpart

You don't want Toonami US's shows.
Besides, Adult Swim is potentially doing something very very not smart in February that could kill Toonami US anyway, making your Toonami superior.

I find it funny how the UK always gets the short end of the stick, yet also doesn't (a TOM plushie for anyone who can figure out what I mean :p )

Whoops!, what I was trying to say was about the lack of shows on Toonami UK and why that is not a good thing

I'm sometimes interested to the UK counterpart of Toonami. I like seeing how their's is different (and occasionally better) than the US Toonami. Not to long ago they had a great line up with Batman, Batman Beyond, DBZ and Sailor Moon that was much better thasn whatever the US Toonami had.

Sailor Moon was never on the UK Toonami, shame too, because that means we never got to see the movies as well
"You don't want Toonami US's shows."
I can't see why they wouldn't want MSG, 08th, 0080, Blue Sub, Big O, Dragonball, Outlaw Star, and Reboot. Hey, Matt. The world isn't over yet.

I was just checking out Toonami uk, @ Toonami UK (http://www.cartoonnetwork.co.uk/microsites/toonami/) and their LockDown doesn't start until May 13th. Do you think it will be diffrent from ours, i mean if they know whats going to happen it would kinda ruin the whole thing wouldn't it?

I've been wondering why CN UK decided to kill the Toonami block a few months ago. They still show some action shows but only 3- BeyBlade (no thanks), DragonBall Z (it's ok) and Justice League ( :) ). But they used to show much more- Batman Beyond, Gundam Wing, Tenchi, X-Men Evolution. Why did they decide to get rid of it? I was thinking it might be related to their one showing of Blue Submarine 6. They showed the entire series one Friday night about a year ago. It went on for hours, so I doubt many people watched it. Anybody else got any input?

Absolutely not true! Toonami is far from dead here!
I'm not sure why England Toonami was cancelled...If you want to know from the source, I would try E-mailing England CN, or mailing them...It's all i've got sorry.

Your probably right D.M., that Toonami of U.K. just might of not gotten enough viewers to watch the block, thus cancelling. Nem might have the reason for the cancellation of their Toonami block.
I wounder how Toonami of Japan, Australia, and France are doing?

Toonami Australia's doing very well, last I heard. Which is why they even adopted Adult Swim last winter.

I have 2 words to sum it up verry nicely,
'Bey' and 'Blade'
And if the viewing figures were crud then why is DBZ still on?
Blue sub 6 kicked ass! i pesonaly doubt that caused it...
and as a last note thingy, they also had jhony quest.

DragonBall Z is obviously popular, hence why they still show it.
Gundam Wing probably did ok but not great, hence no more Gundam *is very thankful for US DVDs*
BS6 looked good from what I saw. But they showed it all in one go, which is alot to sit through

well, if Gundam wing fealed so misrably then why did they show endless waltz?
And besides, I think that the lack of anything but DBZ killed it.
Personaly i think that in the highly competitive world of uk anime.
(no im not joking), i think toonami would of sunk under the wiegt of Sci-fi's exelent (in anime content at least) Sekio-Exciting and Thursday night Animation

I didn't say that it did miserably. I said it probably did good but not great here. EW probably got aired because they knew that the GW fans would watch it and Bandai UK wanted to try and sell the EW toys and model kits. There's been discussion over at Gundam.com about why Gundam seems to have sadly failed here.

Yep, DBZ gets alot of air time *remembers the DragonBall Z Saga Sunday marathons*
And I agree that Saiko Exciting is a far better block. I don't care for SFG or the Sorigami bits, but am greatly enjoying Eva and Nadesico. Like you say, the fact that they can get away with stuff like Misato saying "Damn, he's a tricky b*****d!" at that time in the morning is amazing.

England sucks when it comes to TV. Being an American over here for almost 6 years has proven it. Our CN only has a handful of thing from the US Toonami or Adult Swims. We have DBZ, Gundam Wing (used too), Tenchi (Same), X-Men: Evalution (Which the repeated the same 16 episodes over & over), Real Adventures of Johnny Quest, Only the seasons 1 & 2 of Batman Beyond, Baby Blues and Home Movies. Then some good stuff get replaced by Beyblade and Cubix  I think the Brits of cheap and want fix how the cable, satilites, and digital networks are ran over here. I also think it has to do with the shows rights as well. The only thing we've got before you was the second season of Jusice League and we get Evagelion, Nadesico, Blue Gender, and a hell of alot more unedited anime. Sorry for ranting but the truth most be said. I can't believe I missing He-Man.

Hmm, I forgot Cubix. My mind must have blocked it because of trauma :p It gets annoying how many times an episode they say "Yeah!", "Alright" and "Way to go, Cubix!"

I don't know if this will continue beyond this week, but I figure it is worth a shot since we do have British folks on the board. Anyone have comments on the idea of Toonami UK Talkbacks? On to the actual thread...
I just love figh-ting. This is the official talkback thread for the episodes of "Dragonball" premiering on Toonami UK October 6th through October 10th at 17.30 and 20.30. Would anyone like to comment on these episodes? It is the early days of the Dragonball universe so you don't even have to power up. While this thread covers the entire week please feel free to post about the episodes as they air!
You've seen "Dragonball Z" and "Dragonball GT," now see how it all got started. Goku's a kid, and well, so is everybody else (except for Master Roshi who is as old as always). The series isn't "kiddy" though. It's funnier than either of the other two series and still has plenty of action. The sagas are even short and sweet; this one is only 13 episodes long.
Spoilers: If the episode has already aired on Toonami UK you do not need to worry about using spoiler tags. If you would like to comment on episodes that have not yet aired on Toonami UK you will need to use spoiler tags due to the number of people who have not seen the rest of the series. Thank you!
Episode Titles:
Monday - 'Secret of the Dragonballs'
Tuesday - 'The Emperor's Quest'
Wednesday - 'The Nimbus Cloud of Roshi'
Thursday - 'Oolong the Terrible'
Friday - 'Yamcha the Desert Bandit'
Starting Tuesday october 7th 'Dragonball will also air from the beginning weekdays at 7.30

I'm not sure if I'm going to watch or not. The video quality in the advert ranged from good to crap and then there's Goku's Blue Water voice...*shudders*
Personally, I welcome UK talkbacks. TZ as a whole seems to be very American centric and it's nice to see someone trying to do something for those of us who don't live in the US :)

Would have replied to this pre-edit, but for some reason my college put a ban on TZ. Regarding your pre-edit comment about the use of the words die/death/etc- Blue Water's GT dub used it, I'd be suprised if DB didn't.

I would still watch the series even though Blue Water dubbed it. Sure, Kid Goku's VA overacts and screams out every line, but since there is some stuff that Blue Water kept that FUNi edited, it's still worth watching. I mean all this Blue Water bashing has led one person to stop making clips of BWDB(www.Ocean-DB.net). Also, the horrible theme song and bad picture quality was taken from the French version.

I'm assuming that the series gets better as it goes (I meen it did last from 198whatever to 1997). I kninda don't mind Goku's Blue watter va. Bulma on the other hand....well, I'm not sold on yet and translation wasn't too rough. (Heck, they kept Goku's "Discovery" during his strip search and Bluma's accident at the end of the ep). I Dislike the op and the ed though I realy dont like Oecain's idea of the whole repeating "Dragonball" thing at least Rock the dragon had a beat....
I did notice one edit, Goku's "Tail Fishing".

The "Dragonball" thread is getting a response so we will try this as well.
Why settle for one hero when you can have seven? This is the official talkback thread for the episodes of "Justice League" premiering on Toonami UK October 6th through October 10th at 18.30. Would anyone like to comment on these episodes? Season 2 brings higher stakes, bigger action and better villains. Can the JL handle it? While this thread covers the entire week please feel free to post about the episodes as they air!
Two season two episodes have been seen already in the U.S., but with the weekday airing you guys will catch up and pass up pretty quickly. You are only getting the first 5 two-parters for now though.

10-07-2003, 06:41 PM
I think I'll post two cents on this dub. To be perefctly honest I was dreding the day that DB would come over here ever since I heard BW dubbed it, and heck I was right, it wasn't that good. I found FUNi's better. Voice acting wise, Gokuu's voice is still as annoying, but of course Zoe Slusar can't act, Stephany Nadonly sounda more natural and she potrays the character better, I also thought Bulma's wasn't good, it was either me or her voice kept changing from quite to being too loud. Pilaf's voice sounds very fake I found Chuck Hubers better. The narrators was not bad but I think Brice Armstrong (FUNi's) was better, it was closer soung to that of Doc Harris. The picture quality wasn't clear either I could have done with digital remastering after all DB was first aired in February 1986 and it's almost 18 years old, but of course we have all heard that BW didn't bother to do any touching up at all there was quite a few scratches too, they should have cleaned it up and also the music, it was good to heard the original music but souneded unclear, at least FUNi cleaned the audio up too. Not forgetting the opening and closing themes-one word, CHEESY. Well thats my opinion.

"So where are WE supposed to talk about Dragon Ball?"
The issue has never really come up. General Dragonball discussion is ok on this board no matter where it is airing since it is still the same show. With regards to discussion of specific episodes, or weeks of episodes, that are airing in Canada, at first glance it would go to the General Animation Board here at Toon Zone. In some respects though that would seem kind of silly and thus it might be allowed here. Until the situation actually comes up though I am not announcing any decision.

Of course, it barely makes up for the awful video quality.

The no balls joke has been edited out've EVERY dub. Even the usually-uncensored Spanish version (which is odd, considering they left in the scene with Yamucha and Bulma in the sixth episode).
As for the BW dub, they use the French video, which means they have the same crappy visuals, less censorship and the god-awful opening. Note that they also used the French video for GT and the DBZ final four. (Y'know, I wish they would dub Z someday, even if the french opening sucked)

Well, I finally watched an ep ("Yamcha, the Desert Bandit). Whilst I'd researched DB alot back when I was a bigger DBZ fan, it was still interesting to see how the series started out. I think in showing it AFTER Z and GT, certain reactions from the viewer are lost. We know where these characters are going to end up so when some of them, such as Yamcha today, show up as villains you're not that bothered. I was suprised they kept in the joke of Bulma giving Oolong the candy and the panty references (though at least one of those was present in the GT dub). As for the theme song- It's not that bad. Certainly not the best but TONS better then "Dragon, DragonBall......DRAGONBALL ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!". The worst part of it would have to be the clips that each have different video quality and don't seem to be chosen for any specific reason.
I'll maybe watch later episodes, but so far this isn't something I'd go out of my way to catch.

That's quite impressive Discloner, it would have taken me forever to type up all that.
I did post a month's schedule at Infolink one time. Tyler ran the PDF file through something that generated a raw text dump for me and then after filtering it a couple times I got a usable format. It was still just one extremely long file though.

Domo Arigato Mr. Discloner, great jorb putting up that there schedule.
Is GT only on once a day? Seems like it got the shaft compared to DB and DBZ...
That's a ton of repeats...
The MASK isn't really an action show...
Did they lose Tenchi and Gundam Wing? I think they were sick of them but they were probably two of the best shows on the network.
Justice League airs back to back eh? That's pretty cool. I wonder what they do with 3 episode arcs? Maybe they replace a show to keep it together.
William, do you know if CN UK will be airing Clone Wars at the same time as Toonami UK? Or will it be exclusive to Toonami?
William C. Maune
01-23-2004, 02:21 AM
"Star Wars: Clone Wars" is exclusive to the Toonami Network. Cartoon Network UK doesn't show much in the way of action cartoons, although they may still air Beyblade.
That's only 2 days of the January schedule. There is a different weekend schedule and sometimes the weekday schedule is different on different days of the week. It's pretty messed up.

Well, about a week after they ran on Toonami, the CW shorts appeared on CN UK. They used the same promos, only edited any mention of Toonami to CN. Possible they'll do it again. As for Beyblade- I believe it will join Toonami when the hype dies down. Its getting the treatment DBZ used to get. DBZ was moved to really draw attention to Toonami but moving Beyblade right now would likely lose CN alot of ratings (from a business side, it seems a bad move to put just about all their action shows on a seperate channel).

THE FAQ - Yes I wrote one... its below this, but you knew that... You know its sad when I need to explain everything because of how percise I like my schedules.
FRIDAY PRIME TIME - A combo of SVES and Friday Toonami on CN. This gets repeated many times throughout the weekend for a two reasons...
1) It should be on often enough for people to see it.
2) Hyper Luigi teh suck at making schedules for Saturdays and Sundays (Sunday looks more thought out though)
THE TOM & SARA SHOW - Along the lines of Space Ghost C2C. It would include exclusives interviews, music videos, game reviews, video reviews, action animation news (including anime of course), and previews of up coming Toonami stuff.
THE CLASSICS - I find classics to be UBER important. So I devote SUNDAY to Boomerang action staples (and SWAT Cats which doesn't seem to be on either CN or Boomerang unless I'm mistaken) and early mornings I have some more classics and KotZ because it technically is classic, but not in the states. Speaking off...
KNIGHTS OF THE ZODIAC - It's not a terrific show here, but I figure its better to put it early in the mornings and run it every day then shoved in with the premeires. Its only a matter of time because CN pulls the plug on KotZ... So it would basically be like if it was running in syndication at 6:30 in the morning. It should make the KotZ fans happy to be able to watch it at a not completely horrible time (I'm up by 6:30 every weekday) and have it more than once a week (it is a VERY long series afterall).
DOULBE DIP'N - Dragonball Z and Yu Yu Hakusho are very popular so I put them at a time that kids would watch and a time that older folks could watch. If I had my druthers the evening run would be UNCUT but that would require some negotiations with FUNi. SD Gundam gets two airings a day because of its popularity as well. Detective Conan gets two airings because I think it works good as a cap to the line-up. The really weird stuff is in the middle (but towards the later hours) and then I finish off with Kikaider and Detective Conan because they are a bit more how shall I say this... Kid friendly than the likes of REIGN and Blue Gender.
POWER HOURS - You may have noticed that Yu Yu Hakusho, Kenshin, Inuyasha, Dragonball Z, and Justice League are all in hour spots. For the animes, I did this because they are long series and popular ones. For JL I did it because the show is cooler with its hour long episodes.
WHERE ARE POKEMON AND YU-GI-OH!??? - I know some people like them but they get aired enough as it is and I don't consider either of them really action shows. They could be filler programing at some point but they aren't nessesary.
WHERE ARE THE SPIES??? - Totally Spies is an entertaining show but its on CN enough as it is. If this channel could get Sailor Moon back and maybe card captors... then they could put together a block with those three and PPG, but as for now such a block would be too small to be worth showing... especially since TS plays twice a day on CN.
SAILOR MOON, TENCHI, OUTLAW STAR, REBOOT, VOLTRON, ROBOTECH, RONINS, OTHER GUNDAMS??? - Sadly CN doesn't have the rights to several of their greatest Toonami shows. Maybe if the channel does well then WS could pick back up some of them. I for one really want to see Gundam Wing, 08th MS Team, Sailor Moon, and Voltron again... I'd say the two most likely to be called back on board would be Gundam Wing and Sailor Moon because of their phenominal success.
WHY AM I WRITING IN ALL CAPS? - Because its fun silly... why else? :p

Well, the T.V. series is 114 episodes plus some brand spanking new OVA's and a movie coming out this year. Maybe you could switch DiC's version with ADV's. Keep in mind though that the uncut version is VERY bloody for a Shonen Jump title, so it might work on Adult Swim. Also, no series dedicated to Matt Wilson or KnuxFive? ;) :p :(

It's even worse in Ash Catches a... when you hear the slap but have Misty tearing Ash a new one verberly.
Though, the underwear thing was motherly conceren, deal with it.
Still, the music in that scene where Ash is going to be pecked to death by that flock of Sperow is still touching after all these years. Realy need to find the mp3 of that...

The very first episode of Pokémon I ever saw is here: "Clefairy and the Moon Stone." Sure, Seymour was butchered, but it was still a fun episode. I particularly like the double battle of Ash & Brock vs. James & Jessie. The Gym Battles were OK, but not excellent. Pidgeotto is denied its first Gym Battle win. Oh, and Giselle's awesome.

MIne was ep 1, the music at teh end where Ash was going to be "Spearowed" so to speak was very touching.

I think that this shows that Pokemon is officially dead in the U.K. After about 5 years on Sky One in a prime 4 PM slot , it is stuck on Toonami with absolutely no hoopla whatsoever, even I was surpised when I saw it. Also it is in a virtually dead slot of 3 PM when no one is home, everyone is either walking back or still at school. The other slot at 8.30 is just after alot of children leave for school, which makes me think that Pokemon is being marketed towards the pre-schoolers this time round. T'is a shame as I was enjoying watching Advanced Generation.

One thing that confuses me is in "Water flowers of cereulean city" when brock and Ash are sitting on that bench just fater nealry being arrested by that mentally psycotic nurse joy. Brock gets up and sais "he has to go away by himself to do..stuff" and when Ash asks him what "stuff" he is doing Brock replies "Just stuff.." and he then re-appears aty the very end of the epeisode and doesnt say and no more is said about where he;d been or what he had done..nothing at all ever happened like that again in Pokemon..
So where the hell did Brock go?

That's my feelings as well. I think Pokemon (excluding the games) and anime in general is pretty much dead in the UK. It's likely because it didn't get the big push it did in the US.

but i need to admit, i did like a lot of the clssic episodes like the ones you are mentioning now. the claffary (?) one i hated though. i hate the voice i hated the story. the rest were pretty good.

Yeah, you read the title correctly. Toonami UK will be showing Reruns, not a new anime, not G revolution, not V Force but the orgaiaonal Beyblade sereies on Toonami UK next Saturday onwords @ 5pm. This imho repesents a *****-slap to those who thought "Hey, Big-O might of been the start of somthing with Toonami UK"
Though imho, I can't realy call it too much of a surptize I bet two people (Including me) watched Big O during it's run and Toonami went whith what was comercaily Viable.

Both dubs (original and V-Force) have aired on CN, with the third series starting on CN on Saturday. The series has gotten the same treatment DBZ used to get before it was moved to then CNX to encourage ratings.
I wish Toonami UK would give the older demographic more attention. They've shown that they can handle it.

The problem is that anime hasn't got a full push here as it has in the US. Compare our Toonami to the US one- that one speaks to the fans and makes them feel like their part of something. You just have to look at the posters here to see how effective that's been. Toonami UK and the UK anime industry don't do that. The shows are simply just aired and expected to promote themselves. DVDs and manga are generally only found online or in comic book shops, creating a 'nerd' image for fans which doesn't really attract alot of new blood. ADV UK seem to be the only company here at the moment trying to change things. Bandai would rather discreetly have French produced DVDs of their titles trickle in whilst they focus on making money off of the lastest Power Rangers installment.

Again ture, let's face everywhere else in the world gets more animé than us, we're years behind, I don't think Toonami is really interested in the viewers if you ask me.
I also agree with you HellCat about the image of animé here. It has in fact two images, one is the "nerd" image as you described, that can be ordered on the internet or seen in comic book shops, the UK masses are saying it's for nerds and people who haven't got a life, which of course we know is bollocks. The other is the "kiddy" image, mention animé to someone and they might say "oh you mean Pokémon, that's kids stuff". As we all know animé is universal and can be enjoyed by anyone of all ages. But I don't think Toonami are going to realise that.
You people need to move over here to North America. Be with us! See TOM3 and Sara2 on television! Participate actively in the main Talkbacks! (Instead of providing info and analysis later on.) Watch Adult Swim! See Transformers Energon very early in the morning!

I get a mix of both. My sister is terrible for underestimating what anime can do, but she has agreed to watch Gundam 0080 soon so hopefully she'll be 'enlightened' soon. Outside of the house, I meet alot of people who are misinformed. It seems DBZ is one of the main talking points to these people. I've heard such false statments as it was an adult show in Japan to sex scenes being cut out (me thinks someone has taken Tyler's letter page too seriously). I'm lucky that one of my friends is also a knowledgable fan. He's helping me see Naruto (I'm currently up to the preliminaries of the third exam. Please, I HATE spoilers).

I get the feeling there are people at CN UK who seriously want to do stuff on the same level as their US counterpart. Jeff has said they contacted him for his input on CNX and we did very briefly get AS Comedy. It seems they're being drowned out by ratings and those who want to stick to the safer strategy of covering the CN channels with constant KidsWB repeats. This is the same channel which gave us AKA Cartoon Network, a prototype AS years ago. The same channel that aired Home Movies and Baby Blues at 7pm uncensored. Someone knows what we want but is having trouble getting it.

It's basically Toonami in name only, as you should be able to tell by the schedule. We got one Gundam show- Wing. Bandai treated the franchise like crap here and allowed it to die so they could concentrate on Digimon, Power Rangers and those awful Bratz. As for BB, it seems to be a legal issue.

But I'd love to have that crap none the less. Of course some shows we wouldn't have... but there are also many shows that we have that you don't so the schedule (as I've shown many times) would be easy to fill).
That's still uncut Outlaw Star isn't it? But not uncut Big O.
Samurai Jack on weekdays is nothing to scoff at either...
But what we long for is usually what you are sick of.
I wonder why you don't have Batman, Superman, and The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. Time Warner owns those afterall and you could obviously use some more variety. Is there anyone you can write to about channel?
You could really use some movies on that schedule.
And where is the love for old skool in the UK? (then again US television doesn't love old skool much these days either).
I'm sorry you don't get Yu Yu Hakusho, Kenshin (well we don't have that now either), and Gundam Seed. Maybe you could get them some day.

Season 2 of Big O is uncut. For season 1 we get the Toonami cut.
Sky currently have the rights for BTAS and it's spinoffs, STAS and Zeta Project. Toonami have the rights to BB, JL, SS and Teen Titans. We did have TRAOJQ for a while but I believe it's been removed.
I agree that we could use some more movies. The only ones they seem to have our ROTJ and Blue Submarine 6.
There's a rumour we may get SEED and .hack//SIGN, since they've had European English DVD releases.
We don't get SD. I wouldn't be suprised if we did, it's about the only Gundam show that Bandai UK would be able to understand.

This was mentioned in Mysteryinfoman's Toonami Comic-Con thread, but I decided to break it out into its own thread so our friends in the UK would be sure to see it. It may not be more good anime like you all are hoping for, but rest assured, Megas XLR is definitely a Toonami worthy show!
Accordine to Tuner Eurpoes website it says Megas XLR is coming in September, they must have pushed it ahead then! Other good news for those who like Tenchi in the UK is that it'll be back on around Nov/Dec. Let's hope that Toonami UK can get some more animé and improve themselves.

Meh, I don't much care for Tenchi. It has it's fans and I can respect that, but I'd say Nadesico is a better anime sci-fi comedy romance. Plus, it's yet another show that has had several runs since the CNX days.

You know you should be happy with what you get man. Apparently everything is too overplayed to be worth watching anymore in the UK eh? But we'd kill to see some of those shows again... much less to have a Toonami channel. Even if it's not a great one. It would still be more interesting to watch than CN durring the daytime.

But why should I or anyone else in the UK be happy that all we're getting is the same old re-runs of old shows over and over? You keep saying you'd love to see a channel like this in the US- that's the problem. You're looking at what we get as a US fan, who has had these shows and more when for us in the UK this is all we get. YOU may not have seen them for a while, WE keep getting them.

I undestand that much. I liked Teen Titans at first but it's so overplayed... Now I can only stand to watch premieres.
And well you know how overplayed SD Gundam all things Dragonball have been here thanks to rants on this board.
Still I wouldn't mind endless reruns if it was a good show... but I understand the longing for fresh material. I've turned to manga for that I guess since television just isn't pulling it's weight (other than Toonami that is).

I don't think there is as much chance of that happening this time since it is actually a series owned by TimeWarner and not an acquisition.

Yes, there is a Slushee company. In Waterford, Ireland.

Well they only used the name in the title. Otherwise they called it a MEGA SLUSH. Which should be acceptable.
I wonder if you guys will just get the 13 episodes of season 1 or maybe part or all of season 2 as well. It should be done by then I believe. And you tend to get things in whole chunks unlike us... where CN likes to break things off for whatever reason. Such as Samurai Jack and Teen Titans which finish their previous seasons this year on Toonami.

There's a promo running to hype their September premiers-
Transformers:Energon (starts Sept 6th)
Megas XLR (starts Sept 6th)
DragonBall- Piccolo Saga (starts Sept 6th)
Clone Wars Special (all the eps, behind the scenes interviews and a competition) (starts Sept 13th)

So this promo is an original to Toonami UK? Energon probably will be put in the afternoon or morning to bring in the children. Over here, it's on in the early morning. Megas XLR will probably be put in prime time since it's a CN US original(and maybe more promos). Heh, I guess Dragonball is still going over there. How's the Blue Water dub?

I'm going to guess that next year in terms of new shows, Toonami UK will or hopefully get:
-Justice League Unlimited
-The Batman
-Gundam SEED(a long shot, but it could happen)
-The Venture Brothers(the show hasn't aired yet on AS, but judging from the preview, it has enough action to be put on Toonami UK)

About Dragonball, I only watched a few eps and turned it off - couldn't stand to hear more of Slusars whiney voice. About Inu-Yasha, hmm you do have a point there-talking in King Kais voice. But I'm pretty damn sure there was talk of Toonami showing it last year. But I think at this rate it's gonna be a few years if they don't get a move on. By then, we would already be in the Ice Age.

But I believe Outlaw Star aired on Toonami UK uncut for a short period after the switch over from CNX, as well as some (short lived) AS comedies. It would be a bit of a departure, but IY and FMA could fit on the station. And besides, I hear Squenix is really trying to push FMA in Europe as well, and Toonami UK seems to be just about the only place it's likely to show up... well, except maybe Sci-Fi.
I think the reason Inuyasha hasn't aired in the UK is because nobody even owns the rights to it there. After all, Viz can't distribute things outside of North America.
The Blue Water Dragon Ball dub is terrible. There's less censorship and the voices grow on you after a while, but the opening theme (http://www.pathea.com/features/canada/omake/db-canadian.mov) is absolutely horrendous and it has some of the worst video quality imaginable. (Not only is it unremastered, but the source material is clearly damaged.) Give me FUNi's version any day.
Enjoy (or...don't enjoy, whiever you prefer) Energon at a decent timeslot while you can. If it bombs like it did in America, it probably won't last in a good timeslot very long...

French/Canadian show set in the future, after the world was hit by meteors. Humanity has managed to rebuild pretty well but are under threat by a cult called The Brotherhood of Phanatos. 4kids' act if just as good a FUNimation's DBGT. Shaman King got a pretty good dub IMO and One Piece looks even more promising. None the less... nothing that premeired once a week in the recent past should be on Toonami since that'd be a waste of space overall. JCA was "okay" because those episodes were from quite a while back.

We start the Piccolo saga next month. It's hard to say wether they consider DB a big deal. I think they expected it to do well but the old animation and lack of stuff like SSJ hasn't gotten alot of interest. The trilogy could really have taken off here if certain things were handled better (better continuity with the dubs, not making the first wave of action figures Gohan, Trunks, Goten and Vegeta from the Buu Saga along with packs of smaller figures kids have never heard of since they're from the films...)
Brent Long

Also you said the Piccolo saga, then that means that Fortuneteller Baba and the 22nd Tournament have aired as well, because at YTV in Canada they got up to episode 68 right before the Fortuneteller Baba Saga begins. As far as I've seen just a general September promo. We do get individual saga promos but they're nothing that great and neither is the dub itself. Bad video quality and bad acting combined.

Even though Shaman King's scripts are written by the people at TAJ/Mercury (are they still TAJ, because the Kuromi DVD called them Mercury Productions), I believe the 4Kids brass forces them to make the mistranslations. Actually, their best dub, translation-wise, is Pokémon. Except for cutting of some sexual innuendo (and adding some at other times), and re-writing Team Rocket's jokes (most of which don't work in English), it's a pretty good translation.
I sincerely doubt 4Kids will change the name after the headache with the last one. It's like Miramax with Kill Bill.

Back on the subject of Toonami UK. It's more than ever a shame not to have a Tooanmi channel here when CN is thinking of converting Boomerang into a channel for pre-schoolers... I mean seriously... I agree that One Piece "looks promising" but we really can't tell jack just from the translated opening. Remember Sailor Moon used a translated opening(kindof) and the dub of that, in general, sucked. Also Hamtaro uses a direct trranslation of the Japanese opening and endings and I've heard that they still change the in show music, though my actual knowledge of Hamtaro is fairly limited since I don't give a rat's ass about it.

As the title implies, TOM, Sara and the Absolution are no longer part of Toonami UK. They've been replaced with red blocks that combine and have the Toonami logo phase in on them. It's probably for the better. After a failed TIE and short attempts to give TOM and co character, they didn't respresent here what they seem to do in the US.

Really? I can't say I'm a big fan of it, it goes on for far too long imo.
The only thing I'm really going to miss about this change is the fact that the hero Files are gone. Those were kind of interesting imo.

Toonami Heo Files were ok but overplayed. They're like character profiles on most DVDs- they don't tell you anything you didn't already know from watching the show. The Flash one stuck out because it revealed he was Wally West before Starcrossed aired and it had a good clip- *Flash, being interviewed on TV* "I'm the fastest man alive" *zooms off, reappears behind the interviewer and taps him on the shoulder. Quickly zooms off and returns to his original position as the clueless interviewer turns around*.
If I had the ability to load video files online I probably would have captured them. But I don't think they'll be missedd too much.

My knowledge of UK Toonami's packaging is extremely limited, but from what I've gathered its packed with inconsistancies.
Even a trip to Toonami.co.uk proves it...they've got a Tom3 game in there, when the block is hosted by Tom2. They had 'The Intruder' which features Tom 1 and introduces Tom2 (if its the same version as ours), but the network re-launched with Tom2...
Sounds...kind of half assed work on their part. Perhaps it was best that the presentation changed.

Good. That's one. I never liked them like that. I don't live in UK, but I hate TOM (2, that is).I liked the original TOM better. I'm still mad they killed him off in The Intruder (not to mention it was fan choice). But alas:
Best Toonami Setups
1)Moltar- Just because it's Moltar.
2)TOM 1- He looked cooler, with the recycle sign on his chest.
3)TOM 2, ver. 1.0
4)TOM 2, ver. 2.0- Ugly city, everything.

To be honest, Will, a half-assed Toonami with Beyblade and such with Tom, would be blasphemy in the walking into church and saying "Aw, this god person, he aint so hot..." context.
But, untill the day we gets some decent shows that Kick the butt rather than Suck the butt, I do not wish your Robot friend to be assosciated with this crap.

Pretty easily?
I don't really care what Toonami is selling themselves as. I watch it for the show's they air, not the mascots (although, TOM was a nice addition when Toonami was on regular CN hours and no a channel onto it's self... but honestly, he's been rather ignorable since then anyway).

Sad to here. But I think its for the better. If TOKM wasnt doing anything then he shouldnt be on the block. I just hope that never comes to the US>
But.. so now toonami UK doesnt have a host? Just red blocks?

Well you don't really have to care for Tom, but nowadays he does...crap. The most I see him is during the Yu Yu Hakusho custom intro and that's freakin' sad. Pressing three buttons is the most exercise he gets on Saturday. Now if he was in the promos and stuff instead of just spoiler-esque clips and the PC voice over(not bad but come on), then I would see him again as he once was not even too long ago. A nice and suitible host.

I hope not. If we ever see a return for Gundam, I hope it's a show which hasn't seen constant repeats. SEED could stand a chance if (and that's a big if) Bandai UK actually supported it.
Whilst FUNimation produced the earlier Z episodes, most of it here is Ocean. Like the US we changed to FUNi midway through the Frieza saga, then back again just after Trunks has returned to his own time after warning Goku.

You do realise how American centric TZ is, right? By your logic we should just have one big thread for each country. If we had one big Toonami UK thread, the news wouldn't get out since people dislike reading huge multi-page threads.
There are countries beyond the US and we deserve the exact same treatment.

I was under the impression Toon Zone welcomed all animation fans, regardless of their country of origin or geographical location. Just because it's a mainly American site doesn't mean it's solely American. So how about you stop being a jerk and except that members from other countries deserve the same rights members from America do?

It's for the very reason that Toon Zone is such a large community that it should promote countries beside the US. You replied to this thread saying all the UK news should be kept in one place. How about we do that for the US? Cram all the talkbacks, updates and general discussion relevant to the US Toonami into one confusing, monster thread. Wouldn't like it would you? Okay...now you're the one going overboard. I just stated an opinionary suggestion, that was never intended to flame or attack people from the UK or anyone at all. And you've taken it upon yourself to make it seem like I did when I absolutely did not do this. There's no point in arguing about this cuz arguing some how leads to flaming which leads to banning. So end of discussion.
Getting back on topic sorta...what happened on The Intruder that killed Tom off in the UK?

Well, after giving the subject some thought I have come to the following predictions as far as UK toonami is concerned
1) The current Format sticks, we use it for as long as Tuner see fit
2) Toonami UK will slowly dip it's toe into the unedited Anime arena and go back to showing CNX comedies latter on
[Rough guess for this: Mid 2005]
3) ADV/Manga ent. will probably discontinue it's realtionship with Sci-fi following the outragous hours that thier shows have been religated to infaor of some...laughable shows and Constant Farscape reuns.
This will lead to ADV shows and Manga movies appering in the prime-time/Eveing slots
[Rough guess: King Of Bandit Jing will start around febuary 2005 and more shows apper following that]
4) MVM will finaly reaise that YYH will not sell to the likes of BBC and ITV, YYH, along with other Funimation series appaer.
[Rough guess: Near the end of the year]
5) 4-Kids accusations, F-Zero GP legend. Fox Kids gets One-piece (to accompany Shaman King) and Tokyo Mew Mew (The intrest in this intrests Fox Kids into showing Sailor Moon (with S and SS this time)
[Rough guess: F-zero = Certanty, OP and TMM = yeah, Sailor Moon = in my wildest dreams]

3) ADV/Manga ent. will probably discontinue it's realtionship with Sci-fi following the outragous hours that thier shows have been religated to infaor of some...laughable shows and Constant Farscape reuns. Since ADV distributes Farscape, they probably don't mind the constant reruns.
