View Full Version : So, at this moment in time, what are you buying on Wii-Day?

Chad Bonin

And please... leave this thread to people who will actually buy the Wii.

We've got sixteen launch titles confirmed.
Blazing Angels: Squadrons Of WWII
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors
Far Cry
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers
GT Pro Series
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Metal Slug Anthology
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Monster 4X4 World Circuit
Open Season
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Red Steel
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Trauma Center: A Second Opinion
WiiSports

There are some gaps in information, obviously, because we haven't hit Nintendo's big "We're gonna reveal everything in September" event. WiiSports may or may not be a pack-in, we don't have confirmation on what Virtual Console games will be available at launch (but we do have confirmation that Super Mario Bros., Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Sonic The Hedgehog, and Bonk's Adventure WILL be downloadable at some point).

Also, rumored to be in that launch window are...
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Blitz: The League
Cars
Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
Elebits
Excite Truck
Madden NFL '07
Need For Speed: Carbon
SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature From The Krusty Krab
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
WarioWare: Smooth Moves

And we'll even assume that the Zapper and VC Controller are available.

So, with that in consideration, let's say that the Wii retails for $200, with one Wiimote and one Analog Nunchuck, a demo/video disc, sensor bar, standard cables, etc. A likely scenario. Also, give third party games the price tag of $49.95, and Nintendo games the price tage of $39.95.

So, on Wii-Day, what would you be grabbing in this scenario?

Me?
Nintendo Wii
Additional Wiimote + Analog Nunchuck
Zapper
VC Controller
Red Steel
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Gold Version if available)
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
WiiSports
Trauma Center: A Second Opinion
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves

It entirely depends on how things control... I want to see some of these games compatible with the GCN controller.

Just Zelda

Gamestop hasn't even begun taking reserves for the Hardware

Alot of the games are still up in the air in terms of gameplay quality so I'm going to wait until there's some reviews on them before I shell out 50 bucks

It's a very big game release season allaround, so I'm going to allocate my funds so I get the cream of the crop for the 360, PSP,PS3, DS, and Wii.

There's still the launch day situation though, the various Gamestops I visted arn't even sure on the numbers they're getting for the PS3 and Wii

So thats "if" you can even get it on launch day, and they arn't taking reserves until they have a number. If the number is too low then they won't take any.

If I DID get it at launch (which I can't, unfortunately), I'd get Warioware, Super Monkey Ball, and Tenkaichi 2.

I'd say Zelda, but I have it on preorder (those Gamestop guys are quite the salesmen).

Well, I'm doubting we'll be seeing hardware shortages, given that...

1) This is Nintendo. I was able to get the N64 days before it's official launch (thank you, Toys R Us), and the Nintendo DS and DS lite on launch day. You rarely hear of Nintendo shortages.
2) Supposedly the Wii has been in production for a month or so.
3) People will underestimate the Wii.

Just get there early. I'll be at Target at 5AM or so with friends just in case.

not much of the launch stuff really impresses me. the only reason i'm intrigued with "red steel" is for sword fighting, but that shouldn't be the only reason i buy a game. so, for me...

nintendo wii
legend of zelda: twilight princess
metroid prime 3 (though i'm not sure this is a launch title. i think they said a couple months down the road)
extra wiimote and nunchuck
wii-sports ONLY if it is a pack-in

I have a feeling the Wii will be easier to find... I think I'll try my luck online, anyways. I remember when the N64 came out the only thing I could buy was Mario... My mom happened to find ONE system left at a Best Buy, and pretty much every game in the area was sold out except for those few copies of Mario 64.

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metal Slug Anthology *
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Rayman Raving Rabbids *
Red Steel *
Trauma Center: A Second Opinion

Anything with a star by it is a maybe.

I'll also pick up a memory unit, zapper, classic controller, and maybe an extra wiimote.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metal Slug Anthology
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Memory Unit? You mean, an SD card? Or USB Drive? Or USB Hard Drive? Or a GCN Memory Card?

I was about to say "If you see a sale on SD Cards, grab one", but given the rapidly dropping prices in portable storage (last year, I got 128MB USB Drive for $30. Last week, I got a 2GIG USB Drive for $45).

Since in reality I'm broke as a joke (trying to visit Japan next year, all while paying off certain fees, and attempting to acquire a few good titles for my current consoles), I'll pretend I'm a millionaire and here's what I'd buy (titles I'm most likely to buy next year in bold) :

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors
Far Cry
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metal Slug Anthology
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Red Steel
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (Always been a monkeyball fan, I like the idea of titlting)
Trauma Center: A Second Opinion
WiiSports (I'm not much of a sports gamer, but every now and then, there's a title that pulls me in. I believe this will be one.)
Of the rumored titles:
Elebits (I'm waiting for reviews, but it reminds me a lot of Pikmin and if it is nearly like it, I'll love it)
Excite Truck (Comments have been nothing but good and I have really been growing interested in this title, I want to try first before I buy though)
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (Somewhat interested, but I don't know)
WarioWare: Smooth Moves (Good old party wackiness!)

Those titles all have some great potential.

For extras:
Second Wii-mote and nunchuck
Some Virtual Console Titles
Virtual Console Controller
Zapper (I'll see how the wii-mote does without it for a bit)

Now for a big question: Will Smash Bros. Brawl and/or Mario Galaxy be available?

PTCoakley
08-04-2006, 02:08 AM
Nintendo's being incredibly hush-hush about their online plans, outside of WiiConnect24 and the fact online gaming will be free and VC games will be between $4-$8. Expect more announcements at their September thing

Yea, thought so. I was hoping SNK would've said something, though.

I might wanna start saving now as my father told me that I'll only get 100 bucks and a pat on the head for Christmas from now on.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Trauma Center: Second Opinion (hopefully it'll ease up on the curve)
WarioWare: Smooth Moves

Others I might wait on. 3 games is enough for a new system.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and The Tower of Mirrors

As announced, there's a half of a gig of storage built into the Wii, an SD Card slot for additional memory, and Nintendo's slightly announced "pretty much anything that can be plugged in via USB" is good.

Hopefully that green wii will be released, if not i'm not sure maybe black ;/
what i'll buy for sure:

The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess

-----
WiiSports (if its not packed in, i'll only buy it if its very cheap, in the 20$ range)

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors (i'm a huge DQ fan, however i'm also short on cash so only if reviews from the DQ community convince me)

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (very likely, the original was my favorite Gamecube launch title)

Trauma Center: A Second Opinion (if I end up buying everything and still want more this would be it)

WarioWare: Smooth Moves (if it makes it to launch and gets good reviews)

VC Controller (if I can afford it)

and I guess I'll have to buy a memory card thingy to, i've not kept up to date, what is the wii going to use?

meh, I thought they learned to not launch a console without Mario, I know we get Zelda but its not the same, specially since its basically a GCN game,

I luckily have a 2GB SD card I got for my GP2X, but I'm willing to part with it for the Wii... I'm interested in seeing how compressed the files are, and how well people can manage with the stock 512MB flash storage.

I tend to stick with only buying one title on launch days; you've got to have something to play, but I prefer to wait for some word-of-mouth before I sink more greenage than that.

This launch day, it'll be Zelda. Even a poor Zelda title generally still manages to be a good game. (-:

A likely second purchase (a week or two later, when I've had a chance to clock another paycheck and check out reviews) will be Monkey Ball. Probably have to grab some extra controllers along with that....

Anyway, as for me, I'll get Metroid Prime 3: Corruption if it's really coming out anywhere close to Wii's launch. I still want The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for GameCube, but I might get it for Wii if there's anything special about it.

Well, I know I'm definately not getting a Wii on launch day, even though I'd really love to. But if I were to somehow actually get my hands on a Wii on launch day, here's what I'd wanna get.

One Sexy Black Wii (assuming a black one is available)
Extra Wii-mote & nunchuck
VC Controller
Wii Sports
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves

Aahhh, so much Nintendo goodnes... *drools*

HOWEVER =O...
That's what I'd wanna get... In reality, I'd probably have to choose one of those games, which in that case would probably be Zelda. But if the Wii comes packed with Wii Sports, then that'll be two games!

However...
I know I'm not gonna get a Wii on launch day. Too bad.=(

Ah, I can't wait to get a Wii... Whenever it is that I get one...

I'm 100% sure I'm going to try to get a Wii on launch day. I'm still debating whether I should reserve, stand in line, or both. If I can get high enough on Gamestop's list, then I'll probably reserve it. Multiple colors could be an issue for reserves though...

Getting:
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess (unless they don't let you use a GCN controller and reviews continue to complain about the Wii remote). Also, I've had this (GCN version, but that will be changed) fully paid for since EB's trade-in-five deal last August.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption: Loved the first two. Got burned paying full price both times only to have quick price drops a few months later, but it was worth it for these games, plus I got a Samus's Bounty Hunters t-shirt.

Thinking about:
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors: All DQ games are worth considering. I haven't read anything on this, but if it's a real RPG, then count me in (though maybe not at launch - I'll be busy enough between taking classes, teaching classes, going to a boring conference on the other side of the country, and playing the games I do get).

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers: Enjoyed the first, but both times I played it ("times" meaning I started a new save file twice) my so called friends all quit before we finished it. This one I may have to play alone. And before anyone tries to correct me, yes I know you can change the team at any time, but after one goes through the whole game playing with partners, it's hard to suddenly be good solo for the final boss.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance: This is the follow-up to X-Men: Legends II, right? If so, then it's a must buy. Will likely wait a week or two while I beat LoZ:TP and MP3 to see if I can find it on sale.

WiiSports: Not at full-price, but I'd consider it for $20.

Extras: Whenever I buy my first multiplayer game, I'll have to buy at least one extra Wii Remote (I'm assuming they'll come with the Nunchuck add-on, as developers wouldn't use it as freely otherwise). Hopefully one of my friends will also get a Wii so I only need one extra.

Virtual console games: It really depends on the setup. I want portability for my games, which means once I buy a game, I want to be able to keep a back-up copy and be able to play it on any Wii I want. Some theories indicate Wii might have an internal registration list to prevent people from trading (copying) games, others speculate they'll be using DRM-stuff to prevent them from being read by anything other than a Wii or Nintendo approved PC software. If it's the latter, I can deal with it by buying multiple SD cards for back-ups (yes, I'm paranoid about losing data). If it's the registration list, then my question becomes, what do I do if my Wii breaks? Sure, Nintendo will keep track of what games I've bought and allow me to download them again, but what happens in 2011 when Nintendo launches N6? How long will they keep those servers active? Certainly not forever. I want to be assured that as long as I have copies of my downloads and a working Wii, I'll have access to my games. If I can't, then I'll buy a handful of multiplayer games (Mario Kart 64, Banjo-Tooie, Mario Party 2/3, etc.) and call it quits. If I can, then it'll be every NES, SNES, and N64 game I've ever enjoyed that is available.

For the record, I'm betting on $200 for the console if it only comes with the system, standard cables and one Wii Remote with Nunchuck; $40 for additional Wii Remotes with Nunchucks; $20 for the classic controller; $50 for all games (Nintendo will go $50 and third parties will follow without their HD excuses) with a few exceptions for budget games like WiiSports; $4 for NES games; $6 for SNES games; and $10 for N64 games.

System: white Wii. Provided it comes with an extra controller and Wii Sports (like I hope it will), then I'm getting Wii Sports and I won't be needing to buy an extra controller.

Games: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, and Red Steel are for sure. Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Metal Slug Anthology, Dragon Quest Swords, and ExciteTruck are being considered.

Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl I will definitely get. If I don't get a Wii at launch I will get one by the time Brawl is released.

Virtual Console: The first game I'm downloading is Punch-Out, NES version. Super Mario 64 is also a definite buy.

Accessories: Extra Wii remote/nunchuk (provided two don't come in the package) and a VC controller. Probably an SD card.

Ah, right. Colors. Has there been any word on which colors the Wii system will come in when it's released? If black is one of those colors, I'll take that one. I doubt blue will be one of the colors, but if it is, I'll take that over black.

As to what I my mom is probably going to get on or around Wii-day to get me for Christmas... a Wii, WarioWare (if it's out), Red Steel, Trauma Center, and Monkey Ball.

Controversial and off-topic comment: I never really got into Zelda. I'll give Wind Waker a chance.

Zelda and Red Steel are definite pick ups for me. Several other things are games I'd wait on.

Ditto for me. I'm not even gonna have cash for anything besides the console and about a couple games.

"wind waker" is my favorite story telling zelda game. the game really gave ganondorf some character. ok. back on topic, please*cough*

and since nobody likes to read mod notes, i'm going to close this thread for sheer off topicness. will re-open upon clean up

thread closed

EDIT:
k. thread is cleaned up. anymore zelda talk and the thread will have to be closed permanently, though. if you want to talk about zelda or debate which is greater, drag up one of the older zelda topics. this thread is to talk about what you'll be getting on the wii launch day

thread re-opened

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime 3
Red Steel
Wii Sports

Those are the definites for me. Anything else is a maybe, mostly because I'll already be pushing my wallet to the very limit.

I very well may pick up Wii Sports. Just gotta have a game that really takes advantage of the new controller. And I don't even really like sports games!

Other than that, I'm definitely going to get me in on some of that Virtual Console goodness.

Guys, I'm a PlayStation fan, but, the Wii has gotten my attention now. I told my friend about the Wii and also about the chances that I might be owning one and he thought I was on drugs. Of course my friend is a XBOX and PlayStation fan but now he's doing some researching and now he thinks the Wii is interesting.

Here's the games I would get for the Wii:

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Red Steel
Far Cry
Trauma Center: A Second Opinon
