This comes from Cinescape....
In news that will shock nearly everyone who hears it, Ridley Scott has revealed that he’s contemplating a return to the ALIEN series, as director of the languishing ALIEN 5.
"I will decide in the next five weeks," said Scott while promoting this Friday’s nationwide release of BLACK HAWK DOWN.
"I'm looking at ALIEN 5, sure. Why not? Maybe,” he added, according to the website Latino Review.
While fans of the series might be jumping for joy at the news (Scott directed the original ALIEN) it also came with word he’s thinking of directing a pirate movie.
"There hasn't been a good pirate movie either, so I haven't decided yet," Scott said."
In another article from Cinescape a day later which was talking about his Director's Cut of Blade Runner coming out on DVD later this year, Scott was asked again about a 5th Alien film this is the quote from the article...
"When asked about recent quotes about he and ALIEN star Sigourney Weaver reuniting for a fifth ALIEN film, he again affirmed he’s interested. "Oh yeah," he said. "I would do it."
God, I hope he comes back for a 5th Aliens film! Granted that Alien 3 and Resurrection weren't as good as the first two, a Ridley Scott helmed 5th movie could come out really great! The Aliens franchise has been my favorite out of any franchise. Scott coming back would break the tradition of having a different director for every movie that they've had.
Weaver several months back had said in an interview that she had talked to Scott about doing a 5th film. Weaver wants to do something different with the story and she said went on to say that she either wants to have the story take place on Earth as that's where they were headed at the end of Resurrection OR she really wants to go to the Alien homeworld and find out where they came from. Maybe find out more about the dead giant aliens that were fossilized of sorts in the big ship in Alien, and why they had a ship full of eggs. Either story direction would be great. I'll be following this story very closely. :)
Side Note: I have to agree about there not being a good pirate movie in quite a while. The last movie of that type was what, Cutthroat Island?
