Hey all!

Well, I'm moving to Maryland in a couple of days, thanks to my new job out there. But, since I'm not from the area, I gotta ask - where are the good places to buy comics in MD? Anyone from MD out there?

I'll be living in Columbia, and working near DC, so I need to know the good comic shops between DC and Baltimore. Can anyone help out?

You're moving to Columbia, MD? Neat, that's where I live!

I know several comic book shops in the Columbia/Baltimore area. I'll get the names and addresses of them, plus tell you which ones are worth going to.

Cool! I'm glad someone on the boards is from around the area. Yep, I'm moving out there right now actually - I'm in Chicago saying goodbye to my family and friends tonight, and then tomorrow I start the long drive out. So, I'm gonna need to find myself a comic shop for this week!

That would be awesome. I actually stumbled across one little place in a strip mall (don't remember the name), so at least I know of one in the area, but any more info would be greatly appreciated!

What? You mean Comics to Astonish? They're okay.

It will take a little while to compile my list. I know of at least seven that are worth checking out in the Baltimore/DC area.

That might be them - I do remember the word "comics" in the title. They were a really small little place. I wasn't terrbily impressed with them, to be honest. But, it sounds like there's other options, so that's good.

Ok, just let me know. And thanks for doing this - its aprpeciated!

By the way, do comics come out on Wednesday around here, or on Thursday?

Wednesday...unless the mail is interrupted because of a holiday.

Have you moved in yet? I'm trying to get the addresses of everyplace, but usually the best way to do it is to visit them all.

I'm sort of moved in. I'm here in Columbia now - I'm staying in a hotel until the movers come with all my furniture.

I'm slowly becoming familiar with the area - I now know where the major mall is, and where Target and Toys R Us are. If you can give me just street names, I can probably find them on my maps. Or, if you've got store names, I can call them and get info on how to find 'em.

I don't think so...they'll be out Thursday becasuse of Martin Luther King Day.

Here are three comic stores for you:

Comics to Astonish!

9400 Snowden River Pkwy
Columbia, MD 21045
(410) 381-2732

I think this is the one you went to. They're in a big shopping center...just look for the sign that says "Comics" and you're there. They're okay if you need something immediately, but there are some better ones if you're willing to travel...

Cards, Comics, and Collectibles

100 A Chartley Drive
Reisterstown, MD 21136
(410) 526-7410

This place is cool. They have a large collection of Golden and Silver Age stuff, plus they don't skimp on the newer items, either. They're also very good on special orders (this is where I got my plush Cthulhu!).

Legends

422 York Road
Towson, MD 21204
(410) 321-7607

This store is closest to my college so I go here quite a bit. It's a nice place and the guy who owns it, Randy, is really cool. Just don't do special orders from this store...they take forever!

I have several more to give you information on, I just need to visit them. Good luck!

I just have to say that this thread made me smile today. :)

I'm lucky there is one like not even 5 minutes from my house.

Well, this week I stopped in one in Laurel on the way home from work. An ok place, but not great. Sorta small, and they didn't have a lot of stock in - I got the last two issues of Gotham Adventures (one for me, one for my lady), and they only had one copy of Lucifer left (needed two copies again). I'm going to check out Comics To Astonish again this weekend (that's only about 10 minutes from where I live), and then take a drive up to the one in Ellicott City.

The one in Ellicott City is pretty good. I've got two more stores that haven't been mentioned yet...I'll get info on them soon. One of them is in College Park, right near your commute.

No problem. Here's another one:

Alternate Worlds
72 Cranbrook Road
Cockysville, MD 21030
(410) 666-3290

This place is a class act. The store is set up really well: it's well lit, well decorated, and is easy to navigate. They have one of the best collections of trade paperbacks; plus art books and role-playing stuff. To get there, get onto York Road towards Cockysville and turn right before you pass the IHOP. It's in the shopping center that's now on your left, tucked way in the back.

What's the name of the one in College Park?

Sorry it took so long, but I don't get out there too much. Here it is:

The Closet of Comics
7315 Baltimore Ave. (US 1)
College Park, MD 20740
(301) 699-0498

It's right along Route 1, right across the street from the College Park Shopping Center (the one with the Wawa and Chipotle's Restraunt). It just says "Comics" on the sign, you can't miss it. Great selection, but don't bring a drink in--they actually enforce their rule!

Cheers!
