View Full Version : Was ADVANCE ROBOTICS Talking About Toonami's Fall?
JohnCrichton

I never liked Advance Robotics. I didn't see any meaning behind it, except that Robots were coming to destroy us all.
And I was thinking... "No they aren't. Why aren't you telling us how cool they are and why they're cool?"
Instead it kept going on about how these cold mechanised things were marching in, smarter, and all that rut.... and could not be stopped.
"Let the the fall of mankind give way to a new age...." Meaning that they're talking about Toonami's fall and how they're turning their attention toward Adult Swim?
The last line, "There's litte point why bother... this planet was doomed anyway..." and they show shots of unfeeling bigger bots marching in from the sea as if there was a cold corporate unfeeling take over.
And didn't this come out around the coming of Kellner?
And wasn't this like the last really *great* looking Toonami short?
Hmmmmm...... I know it sounds like I'm a mad man and that I'm reaching for straws, but find a copy of it, or go to the Toonami Digital Arsenal and watch it again and imagine that Toonami's talking about how execs are muscling in on their growing property and there's little they can do about it.
Just.... listen.................... 0_o

Well, at the time, Toonami was really focusing in on Dragonball Z. I thought the meaning behind it was to remind people that they hadn't forgotten about various shows like Gundam Wing and Big O.

"...built by man, serve no one."
"...acting without conscience...."
"The robots among us, watching... waiting... calculate their new world order. Their time is coming, they cannot be stopped...."
Remind you of how the execs were watching over the Toonami reps' shoulder when they did that last weak online chat, where we asked questions? Hmmmmm?
I'm watching all this on Toomami Special Edition.
Next episode is called "Broken Promise..." starts off with Gene watching a rocket take off.... Almost as if he were watching his dream take off and away.
"A boy has a right to dream..." and its quiet as if the ones behind this are thinking toward the futuer... trying not to worry about what's past.
"Whatever happens from now, you stay firm and face your destiny without fear..." "You have to trust in your own power..." like they've accepted what was going to be done and the souless merger between Toonami and KidsWB or something. But had to move on, because they had the talent to do it....
It goes on and on, as if something bad had really happened, questions like "What is thy desire..." and word of continuing on the quest float in and out......
"Maybe I'll never get over this.. I've lived my life following my dreams..." I mean, the folk who make these videos aren't just picking and streaming quotes at random.
I'm really believing they're trying to say something here. I've a director's heart, and whenever I watch something... movie, tv show, music video, I'm always wondering.... what's the director trying to say through this story.
Materpieces aren't made thoughtlessly, and Toonami was a masterpiece...
"Are you just going to keep running away?!" "Running away!? .... I'm not running."
Hm....
Gene has a frightened determined look in his eye.... he holds Melfina's hand as the ship seems to take off from us. "Believe in yourself.... do not fear failure..."
And it kinda ends quietly like that... ship taking off and away....
Broken Promise[ Dreams ], is what they call it.
Following right after that...... a promo of Adult Swim.
Am I a madman... or a FRELLING genius....?
You decide.
Hm, was this a JCO?

I thought Broken Promises was created long before Kids WB Toonami.
JohnCrichton
01-16-2002, 11:21 PM
Possibly, but if there was anybody who knew a pathetic version of Toonami was going to KidsWB.... it would've been the Willy Street Boys.
Find a copy... watch it over at the Digital Arsenal.... Advance Robotics and then Broken Promise in a row and see what I'm talking about.
I think... I'm right.
Either that or I'm doing that psychological thing where if you tell yourself enough to see something eventually you will see it.
But what else could those videos mean? Watch 'em and watch 'em closely and think about what each line would mean coming from the people at Willy Street.

The first time this video aired was August 31st 2 nights before the first Adult Swim.

Oh my gods.... AM I RIGHT!?!?!?!?!
Toonami!!!!!
FRAG!!! Where's Jeff?!?!!? He'd know for sure!
NEEEEMMMMAAALLLLLLKIIII, WHY AREN'T YOU HEEEEEAAAR!!!!!
Yeesh, talk about paranoia. :) It was a nifty little music video made with sound & video clips from Toonami shows.

JC, you may be right but you've got to find a hobby (other than video analysis), women, man, whatever. You're spending your time analyzing a video clip on CN. The Zapruder (I'm sure I got that spelling wrong) film of Kennedy being shot has had less analysis than this (OK, I exagerate - but will Oliver Stone's next film be JCO?)
Of course, if you see black helicopters outside your home... ignore them :)

Me thinks JC needs to unplug for a night. "Broken Promise" was made long before KWB Toonami came onto the scene, and it was probably planed before KWB Toonami was even contemplated. Still, yeah, if they were both produced now, I might see the connection JC's trying to make. Advanced Robotica actualy, to me, seems more like a warning shot to the non-mecha centered KWB Toonami from the more mecha centered CN Toonami.

I don't know and I don't mean that those two videos were specifically meant about KWB "Toonami" or not.
But at first when I thought they were just a waste of time and talent... videos that didn't really say anything I watched them again.
All I ask, is watch 'em and then try and tell me I'm paranoid.

Thanks to you, when I watch these videos now I don't go, "Wow! Cool!" but go "Hmmmmm" instead. :p
Thinking, bleh!

I ain't happy about it either. Instead of going, "What the hell are they talking about!? This is stupid...." I go, "Oh no!!! Oh noooo!!!!"

If they EVER take away ANYTHING out of my beloved Toonami, then I will NEVER watch Cartoon Network again! And that's a PROMISE! You hear me? A PROMISE!

See, I *DO* want things taken out of Toonami Prime:
-TAKE OUT the overkilling of DBZ and/or BD reruns. Either get new eps, show the reruns on Fridays or in the weekends, or simply put the shows aside for a fresher lineup until you got something new to add.
-TAKE OUT the pipes; they were nice before, but now its time for a change.
-TAKE OUT the excess KWB pluggin' and START FOCUSIN' ON TOONAMI PRIME AGAIN!
But alas, these are old demands that'll probably never get fulfilled, so I'll be quiet now.

JC... I think your geezer brain is playing tricks on you. :p Besides, whenever WS has a message to get out to the people they're usually a little more obvious than that.
Sometimes a cool Toonami video is just a cool Toonami video.

WOW JC your right. I am getting scared really scared now. I mean when toonami makes a new movie what will it be. The nice weather before the storm or what this is crazy
I think you're looking into things a little too much. It's just a cool little movie they made, I doubt it's supposed to mean anything really.
Though those are some strange coincidences...

I don't think so... what about that? The Toonami Promos have always meant something. What else could they be talking about?
With all the footage and wanting people to watch Toonami more they should've been and could've been telling us how Big O, Gundam Wing, and so forth were cool and why we should be watching them.
Instead all we hear is how they'll bring about our destruction and how much they suck and all that.
I hope come February when you said they should start announcing new life of Toonami that they prove me wrong.
And what Broken Promises and Dreams do you think they were refering to?
They've always meant something to me.
C'mon Toonami... prove me wrong! Please!

Everytime something like this came up last summer(think back to the whole "Kids love it" theme, Nemalki always said to read between the lines. Maybe JC is on to something, or maybe he's just going too deep into something that isn't all that serious. Either way, titles like "Broken Promises" and themes of Destruction and so forth would make a true toonami fan question the meaning behind these videos.

Let me repeat that if this mission fails ^^, if we r unsuccessful we have no future.
Bad toonami fans - Totally meaningless
Good toonami fans - this is not meaningless this is our duty, only natural.
Toonami - I've been trying to rid myself of my gentle nature :).
CNX - and we shall be the symbol of hope for the people.
Sheamon - yeah whatever
Ye see that's the attitude that's ticking people off.
planetnamek.com "it's just like it is with the stars their r bright ones and they're those that r killed."
that's enough!!! Why can't i make u understand?
torpedos aimed at a bad guy "be very careful".
Nobody's going to create your path, u have to walk your own path.
My favorite toonami spoof was the MSG promo.
The federation has dispatched it's entire mobile suit army.
Stand up for the future. hehe :).

That may be, but JohnCrichton has made a valid point. He's taken our minds at the most fecund point...who KNOWS what that one promo could mean?
To quote Yakko from "Animaniacs": "That man....is a genius!" :yakko:
Either that or he has nothing better to do...but I don't think that's quite it. Keep the thoughts comin!

Maybe John's bored and needs something to do. Perhaps the Toonami crew is luring us into a false sense of insecurity for whatever reason. It's probably nothing more than harmless, cool-looking video.
JohnCrichton
01-29-2002, 08:58 PM
I'm not bored, and I have plenty to do.
I've zero need to lure you anywhere. Just telling ya what I noticed.
Still, lately I've been noticing a couple dropped lines in the commercials. Like one for the Midnight Run... I can't remember what it was. It was a Piccolo quote that just usually wasn't there.
I think Toonami's due for another rise soon. :)
Sandro
01-30-2002, 06:07 PM
Could you tell from what season the Piccolo quote was from? I might know what you're talking about. I think you're also right about Toonami's new rising coming soon.

Listen in Advanced Robotics to the line about robots"making the impossible, possible" and them no longer being under their control. Now, here's my theory about this. Before Toonami there really wasn't a good action block to watch, it made this possible. But now it is no longer in human's (representing CN) control but under Kelner's who is the evil robot himself. Also that Piccolo line in NOT in the original so either a)They are dropping us hints. Tell us the line John! REMEMBER! or b) John is going insane. Hmm....
JohnCrichton
01-31-2002, 12:19 AM
I up and completely forgot the line guys sorry.
And it was like only the one time. Now all the other Midnight Run commercials are like they were before.
Crap... he said something that made me raise my eyebrow and it was really cool cuz the line following right after it was Gene saying his.... "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride..." I know he always says this, but following after the new Piccolo quote it sounded different.
I think Toonami's due for another rise....

Well, yea, but by that thinking any promo may have a hidden meaning. Unfortunately, there's really nothing to back it up with. It's pretty wild speculation.
To quote Yakko from "Animaniacs": "That man....is a genius!" :yakko:
Not really. ;) It's a neat idea, John, but there's no evidence at all that it has this kind of meaning, and plenty of reason to think it's nothing more than another in a series of Toonami's anime music videos.

While I think JC is reading into this just a bit too much. I am concerned that Advanced Robotics was the last Toonami video we've gotten in a good while (It premiered during the first run of TMR:SE). It seems as of late the only extra goodies that we are getting from the Toonami crew are the game reviews (all PS2 games also :( ).
Sandro
01-31-2002, 05:27 PM
Don't sweat the line, John. ;) You know, now that I watched Advanced Robotics again (as well as heeding Nemalki's words of advice on the "Kids Love It" thing), I see where John is coming from. He actually might be onto something.

What did nemalki say about "Kids Love It". The time period I watched Toonami the most was during the commercials saying that.Creepy!
Sandro

I think it was something alone the lines of "read between the lines".
JohnCrichton
01-31-2002, 05:58 PM
"Kids Love It!" was meant to be satirical, cuz alot of us who watch and love Toonami aren't kids. But one time the "Kids Love It!" line was said differently for the first time. It was Peter Cuellen's voice and it sounded severely sarcastic. This was when CardCaptors was kinda forced onto Toonami.
True Team Toonami probably wasn't happy about that, so the slipped in that "Kids Love It...." line in there.

You're right. I checked at Digital Arsenal and he sounds VERY sarcastic.

Thoes new rarely heard Midnight Run Quotes were...
Goku - "I'm about to get alot tougher!"
Piccolo - "Destiney is not something you can control...."
Then followed by Gene, "Have faith in me guys enjoy the ride!
Here I could definately be reading into stuff, but... why change those lines so subtely and insignificantly in the first place if you're going to keep the clip the same?
