View Full Version : Why Cartoon Network SUCKS!

With the recent post about Cartoon Network dropping all it's late night classic cartoon showings for more pure 100% crap, I will tell you why this network is make a grave mistake with their late night audience.

Since I work the afternoon/evening shift, I like to come home and watch such programs as, Acme Hour, Bugs And Daffy, Tom And Jerry, Late Night Black And White, Droopy and The Popeye Show and being a loyal viewer for nine years it makes me sick to my stomach on this new late night change.

The shows that are replacing the classics, Craptoons, Craptoons and that Japaneese animation just don't cut for it for me. For starters, I think Japaneese anime is the worst animation I have ever seen from any country, the animation give's me a spilting headache and I'm very serious when I say that and don't to surpised when CN brings (the "WORST" tv cartoon show of all time) Pokemon on their roster real soon.

And CN's very home made product....Everyone knows that I'm not a fan of these new cartoon shows, but why does CN have to ram these cartoon down our throats at every single hour of every day?I guess that they (CN) feels their own programs are not getting enough air time because of the classic cartoon showings and now that CN is expanding Craptoon Craptoon Fridays straight thru the night and the countless marathons of this home made junk, makes me wanna puke my CENSORED! off.

If you take a look at last year's ratings for CN, you would have noticed the classic cartoons(June Bugs, TH The Wartime Cartoons) drew a bigger audience than any original CN product..Now what does that tell you about the classics huh?It appears that adults would rather watch the old cartoons over anime and Craptoon Craptoons in any given time.To me, it seems that CN is getting worse than TOON DISNEY and it's a real shame to die hard cartoon fans who love their favorite classic cartoon programs.

Here is a simple way to do it..We all seem to have a large collection of great cartoons. So just pop in great video make sure that the cartoons are uncut! and enjoy...Who needs Cartoon Network anyway

Anyone care to weigh in on this issue?

Ah, yes, the good old days, when we all complained about CN's lineup and mistreatment of classics. Hey, at least we still get some classic material. Just think...it could be 1999! Remember the Cartoon Cartoon of the day, and the two-cartoon Bugs and Daffy?

I hate the current situation with Cartoon Cartoon Fridays. First of all, we lost Toonheads and Bob Clampett when CN decided to extend the shows a little past 11. NOW, the shows air until 3am. Are they different then what aired from 7 to 11? Of course not! The same episodes just rerun again like a Cartoon Cartoon Fridays Deja Vu. We lost some classic stuff for THIS?! And now Saturdays on CN are not even worth it. The Looney Tunes show is nice (although I give it a few months before CN decides to replace it with more Cartoon Cartoons) and the Cartoon Theater is decent when they're not airing Land Before Time movies. But what else airs on Satudays? Huge blocks of anime and Cartoon Cartoons. Complete and utter crap! Waiting for the 1:30 Tom and Jerry showing on Saturday was an exciting thing to do on saturday nights. After next weekend, I dont think CN will be seeing much play on MY TV, especially since Tom and Jerry will be bland again.

Of course, the fridays at 7:00pm to 6:00am was just Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, the saturday at 10:00pm to 5:00am was Toonami and sunday night at 12:00am to 6:00am was Classic cartoons

With all these god awful changes that CN is making, will "The Popeye Show" be the only classic cartoon late night show on the network? Or will CN move the series to a prime time schedule.

Yep, I'm not going to be watching CN that much (except for Popeye). I've acquired almost every MGM cartoon (every T&J and Tex Avery), and I'm missing only nine WB cartoons after some trading.

Why doesn't anybody (besides us cartoon historians and classic animation film buffs) nowadays care for the classics. I for one think it's a disgrace that our own American film heritage is being replaced with these pieces of junk and dumb anime' (no offense to the anime' fans), which isn't even American! The sound effects are awful, the animation is the crudest thing I've ever seen! Why, oh why, is CN doing this to us?:( Oh well, I'll just stick to Nelson's solution to the problem, stick a video tape of the REAL classics in your VCR!

I only very rarely watch CN now, and haven't recorded anything from it in over six months.

I agree that CN sucks big time. This is a lot like the recent schedule change on the Disney Channel. Now they've got about 16 hours of Zoogs, 4 hours of Playhouse Disney and ONLY 4 HOURS OF CLASSICS.

I've got a few WB and MGM cartoons in my collection so I can just watch those instead of Craptoon Network.

Thank you CN, for your loyalty to we classic cartoon fans!

What the heck is Zoog Disney anyway and why do they think that all that kids wanna watch are shows about regular kids doing regular things? There is NOTHING on Disney of value for anyone past puberty!

I think you need to realize that CN is going to go with its own product for marketing reasons. It really is that simple-they have more of a stake in those and some are really quite good. Courage is often good and Samurai Jack is excellent. It often seems to me reading these boards that nothing would satisfy some of you. You'd find some cause for complaint. Do I like the "classics"? Yes, I do. Do I like anime? Most of it, no, I don't. But CN is not programming for me alone. My nephew can't get enough Scooby Doo! He likes the WB stuff, but loves Scooby. CN has diverse programming for diverse tastes. Who says these changes are permanent anyway? Posts like this thread aren't likely to change minds, ratings can. If you're right, ratings will tell the story. Stamping your widdle feet about how unfair they are helps not a whit to change things. Voting with your feet does. Watch the programming you want to see more of, like Toonheads or LNB&W. Don't pick nits with programs you do get. People do read this board. I've read almost nothing but complaints for months about LNB&W on this thing. Ever stop to think that might have had an effect? Further Deponent Saith Not.

The biggest gripe is that the Looney Tunes aren't on DVD. If they came out on DVD, uncensored, it would solve everybody's problems. Of course the best way to do that, is write to the powers that be at AOL Time Warner. :bosko:

Courage is good? I'll grant you the animation is really nice but after several episodes it gets really boring. Some monster shows up and that silly pink dog blubbers like a weenie the entire show. It used to be okay when Courage used to talk, but now he doesnt even do that anymore! Last Friday's double-length show was good though, but most episodes just seem like 70% filler. How about that early one with the Were-mole. What was that, two whole minutes of repeated footage of Eustice playing whack-a-mole while the Were-mole attacked Courage's bunny costume?

Dont get me started on PPG. They seem to do a long dialouge-less montage on ever new episode now, accompanied by the same music. And the strobing (stop-start) animation effect is really overused. And the show is falling into the pattern of using Mojo waaaaay too much. Whatever happened to the other villians.

Ed, Edd and Eddy is still pretty funny, because it's not out to be artistic or anything. It's just trying to be funny. It does have it's faults, but I really enjoy it. It's 12 minute cartoons fly by.

I dont know what to think about Dexter's Lab anymore. It used to be great, but it's been airing several times a day for almost 4 1/2 years! There are no episodes from the first two seasons I ever watch anymore because they've been run into the ground. It's nice that they're finally making new shows, but they've gotta cut back on how often they air this show.

And as we all know, I love Tom and Jerry. But I didnt start watching it daily without fail until this past November when the rare cartoons became a constant. Once the late night Saturday slot is gone and the H/B cartoons finish their chronological airing next week, not only will every Tom and Jerry cartoon save Mouse in the House and Part Time Pal have aired in the past three months, but since they were in order, all the cartoons I needed good copies of I would have gotten. Sad to say, watching Tom and Jerry on CN wont be a daily thing with me anymore.

I dont know, maybe I complain too much. But there's nothing good to watch on TV anymore. Nickelodian and Disney suck more and more with each passing day, all the good stuff on MTV is gone, South Park is in reruns all the time and Fox wont give Futurama the time of day between September and the beginning of February. Unless you like Cartoon Cartoons, pop groups, shows about kids doing things kids do or Klasky Scupo, there's nothing good anymore.

Here's something that will only make you hate CN even more, but I figured I'd mention it anyway...

You know how Toon Zone has a Cartoon Network Schedules (http://www.toonzone.net/shows/cnschedules/) page now? I get them from CN as a huge spreadsheet, and I copy and paste all the info into a web page. Well, I noticed that a bunch of shows had a [P] or a [K] next to them in the spreadsheet. Eventually I figured out that [P] meant "premiere", but I couldn't figure out what [K] meant. The same few shows always had the [K] next to them:

Bugs & Daffy
Tom & Jerry
Looney Tunes
ToonHeads
Acme Hour
Droopy
Late Night Black & White
The Flintstone Kids
The Tom & Jerry Kids
The Smurfs
A Pup Named Scooby-Doo
Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?
Scooby & Scrappy
Super Friends
Huckelberry Hound
Yogi Bear
Quick Draw McGraw
Ruff and Reddy
Magilla Gorilla
Herculoids
Space Ghost & Dino Boy
2 Stupid Dogs

So what the heck do all those shows have in common that they all have a [K] next to them? Then I found out what it meant by looking at the footer of the spreadsheet.
