Stupendous Man

Smallville was originally billed as a "prequel" to the
adventures of the Superman we know and love.
But as the series progresses and the characters and
situation develop, with the slightly tweaked origin, it becomes
less of a "prequel" and more of a new origin for the Man of Steel.
I contend that even at this early point in the series .. it is
allready impossible to imagine that the Smallville Clark Kent
will become the same Superman we've grown familiar with
in the comics or animated series.
The latest episode of Smallville "Rogue" clearly illustrates
how it's now only a matter of time before Lex discovers
Clarks superhuman abilities ( in fact it seems clear he allready suspects ).
Having Lex as a close friend of Clark pre--superman,
and a Lex who will eventually be aware of Superman's
secret identity will greatly alter this classic rivalry.
It will also affect how Superman will be able to operate
as a vigilante with his greatest enemy able to expose him.
(Comic fans will be familiar with this type of power struggle
if theyve read Frank Millers Daredevil - where Kingpin,
whom the new post crisis Luthor is modeled after, discovers
Daredevil's secret identity and uses it masterfully to
manipulate Daredevil. )
This all boils down to the question how will this Smallville Superman be different then the Supermen who came before
him ?
I realize we all know that at his core he will be the same
man with the same dreams .. but how will the developments
in Smallville slowly alter the end result ?
