View Full Version : Sander Schwartz breathing life into WBA?
With the recent announcements of "All New Scooby Doo!," "Ozzie and Drix" and "Ninja Turtles," all of which are at WBA, it appears that Sander Schwartz was the right choice for WBA president. Of course, it depends on the final product, but it looks like WBA is in business again. Even better though is KWB will be the network to turn to for newer WBA. Could this lead to the end of "Pokemon" and other anime shows on KWB? I just hope these new WBA series are good. With Schwartz at the helm, the former Sony Animation president, then I'm sure they will.

At this point, I'm happy to have one or two decent WBA shows slip through the barrage of Pokemon. This is the first time I've been interested in KWB in a while...

Same here. I've classified this past year at Kids' WB! and Cartoon Network as a "transition" year. Last year, The WB merged with the other Turner networks. This year was the beginning of the testing and I think that next year we'll really get some good stuff out of it, on both nets - hopefully.
WBA has new management and their new president really seems to understand what to do with the company. At least, with his recent moves. This is just me being optimistic. I remember making a thread a few months ago asking if WBA should revive old series like "Scooby-Doo," "Looney Tunes," etc. and the reaction here, IIRC, was pretty mixed. Hopefully, this new "Scooby" series will be as good as the recent direct to videos.

That's not the only stuff cooking at WBA. I had an email talk with voice actor Bob Bergen (Porky Pig, Tweety) who mentioned a Looney Tunes pilot.

I don't know who is animating it or what it's about, but you're welcome to ask him. He told me it's kind of modernized...sort of Looney Tunes meets Powerpuff Girls (?!) But anyway, they've made a 5-minute pilot and kicked the idea around.

Maybe it's an idea that's being proposed given the existence of Disney/ABC's "House of Mouse" (classic Disney characters in new cartoons)? Still, might be worthwhile depending on its quality...

If it's what I think it is, you don't want to see it. One of the WBA people involved in that described it to me once. Even he was so glad that it got axed. I can't post even half of what was said, nor who said it, but here's some quotes: "It was a directive ... to redesign all the classic characters in hip, new, cutting-edge, but cheap-to-animate, flat style. They always want to hip it up and dumb it down. This would've made any previous attempts at crass marketing look like Pollyanna."
Well, Schwartz is definitely breathing life into WBA, now that "Looney Tunes Babies" may be premiering this fall. But, is this really what we want? However, I'm glad they're not forgetting their comedy roots.
ill give them a chance but i really dont have any interest in any of the new wba projects lol sorry scooby is way overused and has outlived itself luny toons i might give a shot but i doubt they can meet the original quality and as for ninga turtles stoooop

While the plots of their show smay not exactly be...well...really good, I'm glad to see more WB Animation on the channel. We could have 4 or 5 WB Animated shows on the network, the most we've had on the network since the (much missed) days of Batman/Superman, Animaniacs, Pinky & The Brain (not the horrid 'Elmyra') and Batman Beyond. This season may almost feel nostalgic.

I personally think that any WB Animation has to be a good thing - I mean look at the great quality of stuff they've put out in the past. From what I've heard Turtles will be a little darker than the classic cartoon series of a couple years ago and should have more of a Batman Beyond look. This is the toon I'm looking forward to most! Scooby might be ok, as long as they keep it like the recent DTV's. Who knows, maybe they'll finally answer that age old question of why Fred and Daphne are always leaving together :)

I agree, I'm very happy that WB Animation is being brought back to life again. For a while, people feared the studio was going to close. All these thoughts should now be put to rest. WB Animation has several new series in development, headed to both Kids' WB! and Cartoon Network.
