The other thread was straying from its original point and getting cluttered so I thoguht I'd give this its own thread.
What do people think of the Expanded Star Wars Universe? Mainly the events following ROTJ, but also the Sith war etc... ?
I personally liked most of the books published during the time when Bantam had the license, some of my favorites were the Heir to the Empire Trilogy, the X-Wing series, and I, Jedi. They continued the events in the original Trilogy very well and didn't stray from the formula, books like the X-Wing and I, Jedi gave us a view from an alternative perspective which I enjoyed.
The new books, under Del-Rey, are rather ick in, my opinion. I don't like this new alien race that much and what they're doing with the characters. They're also calling in a lot of authors with big NY Times best seller reputations, perhaps to help the books even though they've never nessecarily written anything Sci-Fi etc...
What do you guys think?

I haven't read any of the Del Rey books. I lost track of what was what in which time line and just kinda gave up on trying to follow it all.
As for Bantam books, I think Zahn's books rule, but then again what red blooded Star Wars fan be against them?
Other than the books, sometimes I think the Dark Hourse comics have been sputtering out of steam. The new on going series has no real continuity to it; it's just a series of mini series under the single title of STAR WARS. I think the expanded universe is starting to get a little too big and confusing. At least it is for me after I didn't follow it for a while, I can only imagine how intimidating it is for a new comer!

The only one lucas himself likes (or so ive heard) is shadows of the empire...he even said the only reason he wasnt out making a movie of it was because it took place between empire and jedi (itd have to be "episode 5 and 1/2") but he sneaked as many things from it into the special edition as he could

I remember hearing around the time the book was selling so good that Lucas was going to make a movie, but it would be animated. I am sure that was just a rumor, but it still would kick some serious booty. If Lucas did it with traditional cel animation and CG combined, and if he did it right, it would look so good. And I am sure several of the original actors could be lured in for the voices (with exceptions, of course, such as Harrison Ford, but Mark Hamill would more than likely die for the opportunity to do voices for the movie, seeing how much he loves doing voices for animation).
I had also heard that Japan was going to put out anime versions of the Star Wars magna books. Has that happened yet? Obviously, nothing is here, but is this available in Japan yet?

I haven't seen it at my source nor heard anything about that, but I'll look for it. I have to do a video run before I go to Boring Island, FLA. Really wished that Hasbro would make anime-style SW figures, though. As if I need more SW figures... :D My house is overrun by 'em with no end in sight.

I liked Zahn's series, and I, Jedi, but other than that, I felt a majority of the Bantam books just sucked *****. They were the same formulas over and over, and I got really tired of them really quick.
Now the new series under Del-Ray I find incredible. I've been loving it so far, and have found that its drawn me bak into the expanded universe book like again. I love the new alien race - probably because they remind me a lot of characters from my favorite Sci-Fi show, Babylon 5.

Yeah, they ruled. He did an awesome job of bringing in new elements without messing up the continuity of the films. and they were just really good reading.

I enjoy going through the Sith Academy stories from time to time. Also, if anyone's interested there's fanfic archives of Obi-Wan/Qui Gon and Jar Jar slash. Anyway, here's the url for Sith Academy:
