View Full Version : Kathy Duquesne=Kathy Kane?

In the oft-maligned Mystery of the Batwoman, Bruce acquires a love interest named Kathy Duquesne. The movie is her sole appearance. My question pertains to her.
Do you think Kathy Duquesne is patterned off the original Batwoman, Kathy Kane?

Besides the phonetic similarities (Kathy Kane, Kathy Dew-Kane), the two have comparable characters. Both are wealthy heiresses (though the Duquesne family seems to have acquired its money illicitly.) Both were socialites and thrillseekers. Kane often tagged along despite Bruce's protests. Duquesne drags Bruce through a mall ostensibly against his will.
Both, essentially, took it upon themselves to make Bruce more fun. Their goal was to make the grim avenger less, well, grim.
They even look similar. Both have slim builds and adark brown hair. (That is, they both did before Kathy became a redheaded lipstick lesbian.)
So I turn my quandary to you. Am I grasping for straws here or is it possible that Kathy Kane snuck her way into the DCAU?

Yes, I've heard they originally wanted to use Kathy Kane but WB wouldn't allow them , so they made up a character called Kathy Duquesne, Alan Burnette confirms this on the DVD featurette

I don't think they're the same. Kathy Duquesne in Batwoman is half-black, while Kathy Kane is full white.

The one called "Behind The Mystery", Alan Burnette mentions part of the Duquesne/Kane stuff, the rest I found out online and came up with my final conclusion I explained earlier

No, no, no. Alan Burnette said he did the "Duquesne/Kane" in-joke to confuse the viewers. He specifically said that DC Comics would not allow them to use Kathy Kane. The name was given because there was nothing else about her to suggest that Kathy was Batwoman.
Rocky had the brains.
Sonia (my favorite:)) had the toughness and police training.
Kathy had to have a very suggestive name, because nothing else about her screamed "Batwoman."
Besides, Kathy Duquesne is a DIFFERENT RACE. If Batman was made oriental, and renamed Bruce Wain, there would be no way to claim that he is THE Bruce Wayne Batman from DC Comics.

Does race really matter for such a throwaway character like Batwoman? Heck Nick Fury was changed to African-American, and Michael Clarke Duncan portrayed Kingpin in Daredevil. Are they any less the characters they were when they were white?

Sure.
They're both throw-away pretty crappy characters. :P
But seriously, I think they're pretty much the same character. *Shrug*

Yeah, like Professor Hamilton, who was REALLY white in John Byrne's 1980s comic book series, kind of middle Eastern in S:TAS, than REALLY black on Smallville.

Really? Hmmm.
Is there an official statement on what race Hamilton was? Because I know a lot of people thought Lex was black when he was actually just as white as Superman.

Umm I thought it was pretty obvious that Hamilton was white. What made you think he was Middle Eastern?

No official statement, but he's the same shade of skin as the rest of the white people?? Someone posted a pic, that looks about right.
I agree lex is tanner than most of the white people on the show, but hamilton is not nearly as dark as him.

Well, I guess I had the black Smallville Hamilton in the back of my mind when I was watching S:TAS on DVD. Also "Emil" sounded kind of foreign.
Silly me.:p
