I am surprised to see nobody has started a thread about this episode yet! So, what's your reaction? I knew it was too early to declare my favorite episode, this one blows Jitters and Hourglass OUT OF THE WATER! (that's enthusasim caps!)

Dang it, you beat me to the punch posting the thread :).
I'm with you on that one, I can't believe no one posted a thread about this yet! I mean, no offense, but are you guys awake? :D

Back on topic, this is EASILY my favorite episode of the series so far. I liked how everything in Clark's life was in jeopardy and he learned on how to make decisions. And was it me, or in the end, did anyone feel the darkside of Lex coming closer and closer? It was the expression on his face after he saw something speed right past the screen when he was watching the tape of the museum, which by the way, was kind of a nice way to end the show, leaving us with some suspence of wanting more. And it looks to me that Lex will be a lucky guy when he gets to his bedroom ;)

I was just about to start a thread myself!

I agree, this series just keeps getting better and better!!! I loved this episode, but I will not post anything until tomorrow. That way, most of the people will have had a fair chance of seeing the show.

ONE PROBLEM!

I hated the ending.

I like scene with Luther, Clark and the Armor. Boy, it looked familiar. ;)
You knew the guy had to bite it in the end. Although, I thought Luther would have him killed. Thus starting his road to the dark side.

I have a little over another agonizing hour until I see Smallville. And I am very anxious since you all seem to love it. I'm not sure if I'll have time to post after it airs, but I'm betting that I'll really enjoy it, and I'm hoping that my assumptions are proved correct!

what was there to dislike about the ending?

And was that REALLY Alexander the Great's breast plate, with the S and all? (well, not really his, just a re-creation of it).

Wow! That episode really rocked!!! Ooo, that nasty detective really bugged me! I really liked this episode, and the lack of a kryptonite induced villain of sorts was evident, which may be one reason why it was so pleasing. The ending was quite interesting as well, with Lex freezing the frame and all, I thought it was cool. My fav part was Lex with his old flame....but the only reason for that is because her name was Victoria, and so is mine....and wow, that name sounds really sexy when Lex says it! lol. :D

TREEEEmendous! I really loved this episode, there were so many different plot threads going around and all extremely interesting.

First of all, that Faylon guy, sheesh, what a jerk. What I got from this is that Clark's greatest power is his self-control. He can so easily kill his enemies and do away with them, but he's learned the self-control not to do so. That is something I think a lot of Superman bashers tend to overlook. He's a boy scout, but that itself is a great achievement. I'm glad the writers are touching on the fact that Clark has moments of human emotion weakness. And for those who complain about Superman's tendency to go into things without thinking it out, Clark showed that he has quite a bit of street smarts in him, double crossing Faylon twice, even if it didnt turnout well the 1st time.

Part of me wants Clark to tell Lex his secret, because that's starting to cause some cracks in their relationship. But then, part of me remembers that Lex is a bad guy in the end, soooo it wouldnt be in Clark's best interests to do so. What a great character Lex is. What a great ending too with the speed blur. I think Lex is pretty sure there's something special about Clark, it's just a matter of getting some concrete first-hand evidence.

Maybe it's the sap in me, but I really liked the little conversation between Chloe and Lana at the end. Friends, ha! Who out there wouldnt pay to be in Clark's position? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?Super powers and multiple girls? Now, that's the kinda life I'm talking about.

Other notes, I really liked Pa Kent's performance. Especially when he was tearing up at the Beanery, he did great job showing his love for his family.

Faylon's fingerprints are on the breast plate, but wouldnt Clark's fingerprints be around the museum too? Particularly in that safety system console which he ripped off.

Awesome episode!!! Very, very impressive. Clark did show he has some street smarts when he double-crossed Faylin. Seeing that safe fall on his car was great. I had to laugh out loud at that one.
I was also wondering about all the finger prints Clark was leaving all over the place, especially in the museum. Wonder if Lex will take the security cage from the museum back to Smallville with him and have it analyzed? WOuldn't be surprised.
Speaking of Lex...what a great character. Rosenbaum is getting better and better each episode.
Pa Kent really showed a lot in the way of caring for his family. He showed a lot of emotion for his family, not to mention a temper when dealing with Faylin (or however his name is spelled).
As usual, Lana looked amazing, and her interaction with Chloe was interesting. Clark night just have himself a little love triangle thing going on there.
And finally, no kryptonite villian of the week!

An awesome episode that didn't have a Kyrptonite villain!! Btw I remember hearing about a Metropolis episode where Clark meets a young Bruce Wayne. Was this a rumor? Did it already happen?

I missed part of it while making dinner in the kitchen...but I am happy to see that Clark's sloppiness has caught up with him. He knows now he can't afford to slip up, because there are those who will blackmail him at least...and at worse, seek to crush him.
My favorite line was Faylin's about always being prepared--"When you walk into a crackhouse, you don't just go in wtih one plan--you go in with ten plans!"
Of course I also liked the metahumor in the scene of Alexander's breastplate. "I didn't know you were a history buff." "I'm not. I'm just facinated by men who ruled the world before they were 30." "Don't worry, Lex--you still have a few years left." The lighthearted teasing barely masks the bitter irony/foreshadowing.
Also loved Lana's scheme to get Chloe reinstated at The Torch, although some young Turk campus rag journalist may try something like that with their faculty adviser and end up terminated/expelled.
Clark's love triangle is one thing, but what of Lex's? I mean, his true mistress is power, and I'm not sure she can compete.

The idea has been tossed around, but if it happens, I dont think it'll be until the 2nd season.

I loved that line too, the expression that Faylon had on his face when he delivered that line was great.

Well, I saw the last twenty minutes of the episode and then got to see the first twenty, but from the get go, this one was a true gem!!!

I loved finally seeing Clark's mysterious presence at so many crime scenes addressed! How often did he just run up to a Kryptonite villain of the week and start kicking their butt without covering his tracks at all??? TOO MANY! One thing that bothered me was his anger. Whoa...he really needs to start being careful or else things could easily get out of hand...then again, I guess they already have!

The Lana/Chloe bit was great. At first, I thought Chloe was acting like a total brat, crying about "losing" the paper to Lana, since it was obviously just a ploy to get Chloe back in charge. But I forgot that she has feelings for Clark. It must really suck to be around a little-miss-perfection while the guy you like ogles her! Allison Mack brought a real tenderness to that scene when another actress would have had Chloe come off as a total you-know-what... Well done. We feel your pain Chloe!

The cop guy (who I originally thought was the reporter Lex blackmailed...say, where is he?) was a real meany. Planting a dead man in the barn...seriously ouch! That really shocked me, but I knew he was going to have to lose his memory or die. And that last scene with Lex....ooooo..shivers!!! I perfect way to end it...providing they address it next week!

I wasn't too impressed with Victoria, but then again I wasn't with Lex after he was done looking at the security tape :D !!! Seriously though, I expected her whole "Daddy sent me to get you to betray your father" thing to come out later, but Lex was smart enough to figure it out instantly.

All in all, it's a nice surprise when the guest-star you thought would hold up the show ends up being out-done by the permanent cast! Great episode (nice when Pa Kent flipped out at the cop!) without a Krptonite sandwitch in there! Nice job writers! More of this!!!

By the way, when can I see this one on Global or rerun on WB? I've been taping the entire series so far and want to catch it!!!

Sounds like it was an excellent ep. Too bad my local WB was broadcasting an ACC basketball game. Guess I gotta wait for the rerun.

I've been complaining on this show since the the second episode. There was only a couple of good moments here and there, but I was never really impressed by what I saw....until last night. Finally a good episode. For the first time since the pilot I really enjoyed myself. I just hope they keep it up and not go back to what they were doing on the first half of the season.

I thought the most significant part was when Faylin was about to die and the last thing Lex asks him is what he had on Clark.

Lex has been trying to prove his friendship to Clark throughout the whole series. Yet the desperation of how he asked this suggested that it was more out of obsession for an object than concern for a friend.

The performances were all terrific in this episode, especially in scenes involving Faylin getting thrown against stuff.

Speaking of the Chloe and Lana thing, I loved how they each asked each other if they just "liked" Clark, that was perfect. Faylen, or however you spell his name, he was a great bad guy....he was so great at being a jerk! They made up the Alexander the Great thing, right? You know, the breastplate having an S on it and all, I figured they through it in there for kicks and more forshadowing. Victoria bugged me a little....and writing this is weird because it makes me think I'm writing about myself, lol. Anyhoo, she had this British accent that seemed to slip in and out, and the scenes she was in just seemed to go very slow. Some people didn't seem to like the ending, I rather enjoyed it. It great to see Lex one moment be a great friend to Clark, but the next moment very fierce in trying to figure things out about him. It sucks that he'll turn out as Clark's main foe, because he's so good at being nice right now!

If you were best friends with somebody like Clark, wouldn't you also want to know what was up with him at all these crime scenes?

Alright, I assume that most of us has seen this particular episode. If not, I feel sorry for you! This was, by far, the best episode yet!

First of all, I think that the breastplate was just created so that they could have that forshadowing with the "S" on the chest. Second of all, another little bit of forshadowing that hasn't been mentioned yet was the badge. Yes, the Metropolis badge looks like Superman's emblem. Just the outer edge is shaped like it. I thought that was cool.

Now for what I didn't appreciate. The ending. Yes, it was cool to see Lex looking at the viedotape of a blur. I know what it means for the future. However, there is a slight problem with the ending. That videotape isn't supposed to exist. Why, you ask? Because Clark and the bad cop went through all that trouble to shut down the security cameras!!!

I do not consider myself a stupid person. I do not consider any of you stupid either. But that was a simple mistake that should NOT have happened! If the writers can't come up with anything better, then that's a shame. I understand that some people wouldn't catch it the first time, because of the implications that the videotape implies. But you cannot have them go through all the trouble to get rid of the cameras and suddenly, magic! Lex has a videotape of that evening! That was just pathetic.

I do hope that in the future, the writers will pay attention to what they've written before they go ahead and mess things up like that!

For someone who has this episode on tape, watch it again. Go to the last 15-20 minutes and check it out. That shouldn't have happened. Lex should not have a videotape of that night because legitimately, it doesn't exsist.

I will, of course, continue to watch this show. They better not make that kind of mistake again. I will be watching.

At my local Osco Drug, there is a disclaimer behind the registers saying that the place is security video taped from a remote location. It's not uncommon for places to have back up systems for security cameras, or even off site recorders that cannot be shut down so easilly at the place it's recording. Heck, if Osco can afford that system, you know the museum can.

It's not like he had footage of Clark ripping apart the steel. It was just a shot of Clark running, which could've been in another section of the museum, as he was leaving.

I feel like a bit of a moron!

I didn't remember that they had cut the security cameras offline! How the heck did Lex get a video that didn't exist? Maybe there was a secret camera still running that Clark didn't know about! I'm really confused....

I just hope they address this stuff later! Lex already has a reporter researching, a scientist analysing Kryptonite, a video of Clark running really fast, a strange hole in the wall of his LuthorCorp plant (remember how Clark just knocked it down exposing the hidden elevator?), crime scene reports, the memory of having seen Clark pulled both him and that other guy from certain death and a heck of a lot of suspicions!!!! How much more evidence does he need?

Calhoun07
01-17-2002, 12:34 PM
he's got the evidence, but remeber that this is a world where superheroes don't appear to be on every street corner. Lex hasn't even had much of run ins with Kryptonite mutants. I am sure he suspects SOMETHING is up with Clark, given all the evidence, but really, unless you already knew Clark's secret, would you be able to automatically come to the conclusion that he must be an alien from another planet who gains incredible abilites from the yellow sun? I think some people are too hard on Lex, expecting him to believe some pretty unbelieveable things too quickly. Just like the shape shifting girl and Martha's reaction. I doubt any of you in a similar situation would be willing to buy a shape shifting explanation and would be looking for anything you can explain easilly and comprehend. It's human nature to not comprehend the unbelieveable.

I loved this eppy! It actually had a deep plot! Jonathan's little lesson to Clark had overtones of Uncle Ben-PeterParker-"With great power comes great responsibility" in it. Breastplate: Awesome ! I want every one to be this good... Anyone have info on the next new eppy?

Ricochet, the next new ep is called "Shimmer" and it will in two weeks (1/29) opposite the State of the Union address

I enjoyed the episode. I really did. It broke away from the formula, which I am grateful for. The acting was great (except for Lana, but I won't go into that). The writing was much better than it has been. I hope the show continues to improve.

But I have one major points against this ep: Pull the camera back! I really didn't need to see Lana's expressionless face filling up the entire screen, thank you very much.

Lex rules. Victoria does not.

This was a really great ep! One of my favs by far! You all pointed out the good things, so i'll focus more on my few problems w/ it.

The foreshadowing w/ the "S" is getting a little... well... old. I can just see the citizens of Metropolis in ten years when Superman shows up. "Another guy w/ an S." But what do i know :p

Also, it would have been cool if the bullet had hit Clark. I know he's faster than it and all, but... it would have been so cool! :D

Anyway, it really was an excellent ep.
