I'll give you my top and bottom three:
Batman Begins, Superman Returns, and Constantine are the top 3...
Catwoman, Steel, and Batman and Robin are the bottom three...
Everything else falls in the middle, although I've yet to see Supergirl, and even though I've heard it's bad, I still wouldn't mind seeing it... if I can find an inexpensive copy....

My top 5:
1. Batman Begins - Had more impact upon initial viewing than any other DC movie. I loved pretty much every moment from start to finish. There were a few editing problems, but otherwise very well filmed. Great soundtrack, great cast, great performances.
2. Superman Returns - Felt very different from most other superhero movies. It felt more grounded, more realistic with its dialogue and emotion. I greatly enjoyed the subdued colors and tone. And I absolutely loved Spacey's Luthor. I think what really made this movie for me was the pacing. It took its time and developed the characters and situations, rather than cramming the running time with non-stop special effects and action.
3. Batman Returns - I've always enjoyed the atmosphere Tim Burton brings to movies, and it was incredible to see Batman get the Burton treatment. Loved the visuals and Elfman's score. And, I appreciated having a more involved plot compared to "Batman". Though I initially didn't like it, I love this version of Catwoman and what Michelle brought to her. And I've always loved Keaton's Batman.
4. Superman II - May not be at the same quality level as "Superman: The Movie," but I've just had so much fun with this one. I've always found great humor in General "Kneel Before" Zod and absolutely delighted in the Metropolis battle. Now if we could only see this kind of tussle in the next Superman movie.
5. Superman: The Movie - Loved the look at Krypton at the beginning and all the scenes with Brando as Jor-El. The guy has so much presence. Even in a small role, that presence impacts and permeates the film. It's one of the reasons for the greatness of the film. I never really cared for the time-travel ending, which is a dramatic cheat, but this was a very well made movie.

Yes, I do. Not to say that Batman & Robin is any good, Forever is just so much worse - partly because on one hand it's trying to be serious - which is like mixing oil and water together. I have much more contempt for Forever than I do with Batman & Robin - it's a horrible assault on the senses, the score is terrible, the villains don't even have that so-campy-you-can-roll-your-eyes-at-them vibe. They're just plain irritating (moreso than Freeze and Ivy).

I'm only going to rank the ones I've actually seen:
1. Batman Begins
2. Batman (1989)
3. Superman Returns
4. Superman II (1982)
5. Batman Returns (1992)
6. Superman: The Movie
7. Batman Forever
8. Batman & Robin
I've only seen portions of "Batman" (1966), "Steel", "Swamp Thing", and "Superman III" on TV. Haven't seen "Return of the Swamp Thing" or "Superman IV: The Quest For Peace". Didn't see either "Constantine" or "Catwoman". No one bothers to include the cartoon movies in here, else there'd be a couple of adds to the list.

I havent seen any of the animated Batman films nor Catwoman nor Steel. I saw 5 minutes of Supergirl and hated it. Wasnt there a Lobo movie too with Steve Gutenberg? From what I know, I would put them all at the bottom of the list (minus the Batman animated films) but I wouldnt know the order there at the bottom
1. Superman:Returns
2. Batman:Begins
3. Justice League: Starcrossed
4. Batman Returns
5. Batman (1989)
6. Superman
7. Superman II
8. The Batman vs Dracula
9. Batman (1965)
10. Superman III

you know, this post intrigued me. so much in fact that i went and watched batman and robin, something i never thought i would ever do again. i have to admit, that knowing it sucks going into it makes ot not so bad. in fact my buddy and i laughed through the whole movie and had a pretty good time. i think i actually agree with you that the all out ham-fest, while not good, is better than the hammy two-face and riddler sticking out like sore thumbs in what is presented as a serious gotham.

Batman - It may not be accurate, but it embodies all the right elements for the right period in cinematic history. It needed to be edgy, it needed to be fantasy. It wasn't a time quite ready for authentic comic book movies and as such, I think it's possibly one of the only timeless comic book movies. The pacing is consistent, the characters are fleshed out enough to be interesting, while retaining that fairy tale simplicity. A simply beautiful film that took Batman and put him into a iconographical and anchronistic environment which spawned a new generation of comic book movies.
Superman 2 - A comic book movie that puts characters above the mighty super powers, yet still has time for some of the most impressive battle scenes - particularly for it's time. A good movie with a strong set of villains and a strong pair of leads. I love Reeve's Clark. I love the way in the Superman movies, it's Superman who is the real Kent, not Clark and this to me gives the character a far more interesting slant than the more contemporary approach.
Batman Returns - Maybe a little too fairy tale, but it did really throw some great interpretations onto the screen. Catwoman is an amazing bit of casting. Keaton is a little darker still and Wayne's chemistry with Kyle steals the movie. Devito is excellently disgusting as Penguin. The movie suffers from having too many villains and I found Penguin surplus to requirement. Good movie.
Superman - Excellent rendition of the myth. Suffers from feeling a little awkward in pacing. The film just feels a little disorientated to me. Nevertheless, I love Luthor, Reeves is great as Kent and the whole story just feels like Superman. Not quite as emotionally captivating as Superman II.
Batman Begins - I'm not a big fan of Begins, but I've not seen SR and I'm not very keen on any of the other DC movies. Constantine was awful, Swamp Thing was bland, Supergirl is nostaglic but pappy fun, and I didn't like either Batman Forever or Batman & Robin. Oh, and Superman III suffered from having three times less Superman than any other film starring Richard Pryor.
That said, BB does play close to orgin. I wasn't overkeen on this version of Wayne. Bale is solid - especially as Batman - but he didn't really feel like the Bruce Wayne I imagine, and not distant enough from the comic variety to stand apart like Keaton. But there are some nice action pieces, the set up to the film is interesting and I liked the slight distortion to the origin by having Wayne scared of Bats. However Katie Holmes is a waste of space and offers zero chemistry with Bale. She seems singularly there to underline the point that Batman is not gay. Beyond that, she seems superfluous. Not a terrible film, in fact quite an enjoyable one, but it's a DVD I've had little inclination to watch again.

Superman: The Movie – Simply the best live action comic book film and I don’t care if the time travel scene makes no sense. It’s a comic book/comedy and shouldn’t be taken literally like X-Men or Batman Begins… To me it’s the only perfect DC movie.
Superman Returns – Routh is equality as good as Reeve, however, Boswroth wasn’t as good as Kidder’s Lois Lane. Spacey outdid Lex by shaving his head, but still fell flat of Hackman’s comedic side and they should have done the businessman evil Lex instead… Kitty Kowalski outdid Eve Teschmacher and reminded me of Joker’s Harley Quinn…
Batman Begins – Although Batman is my favorite fictional character Begins made a huge error in ignoring DA Harvey Dent and replacing him with Katie Holmes who was nothing more than a distraction. I hope “The Dark Knight” ditches Katie Holmes for a more intelligent actress and not another WB sitcom actress who isn’t too young to play her character. The ending is the weakest part of the film and the way they film inside the train is just plain awful. Bale nailed Batman and so did just about everyone else except Holmes…
Batman – Nicholson is what truly shines here and the overall tone of the film. Darkness. Ledger will have some big shoes to fill... This and Game 6 are Michael Keaton’s best films and I love the ending and so what if it rips off King Kong… The negative is Gordon is fat and clueless, Alfred and Bruce’s have no chemistry and I would say that’s the central point of the Batman mythos.
Superman II – I’m looking more forward to the Donner cut this November. You can tell when Lester is importing his scenes and when Donner’s scenes pop up. It just doesn’t work, but still fun… I’m not a big General Zod fan and hope not to see him in the SR sequel…
Batman Returns – No woman alive will ever be able to top what Michelle Pfeiffer did as Catwoman… She was brilliant and the only reason I own this film. The rest is a bad dream Tim Burton had about Penguins…
I’m holding out hope that The Spirit, Wonder Woman, The Dark Knight, The Flash, and Superman Returns sequel won’t disappoint.

...and I didn't like either Batman Forever or Batman & Robin.
Hey, is that a bit of revisionism there? ;) I thought you liked B&R for what it was (not a serious attempt at Batman, but intentionally campy). Or maybe that was just your reason for putting it above BF?
But I'm glad to see "Returns" up there. I still think its better than "Batman", but it sounds like maybe your appreciation for it has grown a bit (not that you ever disliked it, I don't think, but you know).
Of course, I'm disappointed to see BB at the bottom for you. But hey, it wouldn't be too interesting if we agreed on everything, would it. And I'm looking forward (I think) to hearing your opinion on SR. (And I curious where your at with BSG and your thoughts on second season).
