Programming notes: Cuban's HDNet gets 'Arrested'
Dan Rather will be sharing his new home with the Bluths. Mark Cuban, who said last week that his high-definition channel HDNet will host "Dan Rather Reports," is picking up canceled critical darling "Arrested Development's" three seasons of episodes from 20th Television. The comedy will join the ranks of other HDNet salvage efforts like the critically praised "Joan of Arcadia" and Showtime's “Dead Like Me,” both short-timers. In other programming, FX purchased cable syndication rights for Warner Bros.' CBS series "Two and a Half Men," to begin airing in 2010. Episodes, which could be shown as often as twice daily and once on weekend days, are valued at as much as $750,000 each, which would make it one of the most expensive syndication deals ever. Fox has switched up its fall Tuesdays lineup to air "House" at 8 p.m., before new show "Standoff," but the swap is only temporary. Adult Swim is preparing several new animated series for the fall including "Metalocalypse," about heavy metal rockers, to air Sundays at 11:45 p.m. starting Aug. 6; "Bleach," about a teenager who can see ghosts, Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. starting Sept. 9; "Trinity Blood," a vampire tale, Saturdays at midnight, starting Sept. 9; and "Frisky Dingo," premiering Oct. 15 and airing Sunday nights at 12:30 a.m. And Court TV is developing several new programs, including the grim reality series "Divorce Story;" a show about women bounty hunters called "Bounty Girls;" and "Phenomena Police," about investigations of the paranormal.

- Nice to see Arrested getting love(although that throws off livingfruitvirus' chances to have AD on AS).

- I didn't even realize that "Two and A Half Men" would be worth that much for syndication. That and wouldn't work better on TBS? Oh wait, I forgot, WB and Turner hate each other.

-Although those that go to the AS board already know, at least anime was mentioned.

Well Smallville airs on both HDNet and ABC Family so that might not be a problem.

Also, good news for AD.

Maybe TBS was outbid or did not want to send that much (per episode) for a series.

It seems that 'Arrested Development' will also be airing G4, according to a FOX Release (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/pr.aspx?id=20060726fox01).

I'd like it if they beat the living crap out of that kid instead of letting him always get the upper hand.

Aaaand the network gets a show worth watching. Total count: one.
What's confusing:

"This studio has led the industry in producing content for digital media, from our mobisode series to our DVD prequels to the vast array of wireless applications inspired by our shows," commented Twentieth Century Fox Television Presidents Gary Newman and Dana Walden. "Arrested Development' is exactly the right property to roll out on these exciting new media platforms. It's a win for both the loyal and passionate fans who adored the show during its network run and the millions more who will now have a chance to discover its genius." The presidents of 20th are praising AD left and right. If they're going around praising it, then why was it cancelled?

They didn't have much of a choice. It never made much money and they'd gone as far as they could without getting investors irate. They had to move on eventually. If nobody on the Nielsen meter was going to get it, that was their fault, not Fox's.
