If you take a look at the updated Cartoon Network Schedule (http://www.toonzone.net/shows/cnschedules/), you'll see that LNB&W will disappear at the end of February. But... The Tex Avery and Chuck Jones shows will be returning, and Rocky & Bullwinkle will be on much earlier.

The 1:30am Tom and Jerry slot isnt going anywhere is it? I'm sure that brings in some of the highest rating of the night for CN, thanks to all the Mammy showings.
Maybe the ratings of LNB&W were slipping. It isn't like they've introduced anything new. If they had brought Bosko, Buddy, all the B&W WB cartoons they don't have, as well as the public domain B&W/silent cartoons they have (I know they at least have a copy of "Gertie the Dinosaur" they ran it in a "Greatest Cartoons" marathon, once), then it would be better.
CN has the rights to much great B&W programming, they are crazy for not getting ahold of it and keeping Late Nite Black and White.
I'll miss it, I'd rather have LNB&W than the edited-cartoon-Jones and Avery shows.

It's toast. Saturday night will be all-anime starting Feb. 23. Take a look:

It's clearly one of the best shows on Cartoon Network and why would they take it off their roster??? It dosen't make sense to me at all.

This really stinks. I hope LNB&W will return someday. I guess an entire night of headache-inducing anime brings in higher ratings than Porky, Popeye, and Betty. :( :( :(

To be honest, I really don't believe that LNB&W has shown anything good lately. I mean, they're not going to show any Bosko or Buddy cartoons anytime soon (I'm sure they would have done it by now if they were). Anime, on the other hand, is shown way too often on CN. In my opinion, Anime is nothing but crap.

Man! That stinks worse than Pepe Le Pew in a limburger cheese factory! I loved Late Night Black and White! Seriously, though, the show was getting old. I was lucky to get some great black and white cartoons from there, but they rerun them all the time. What they should have done is dug up some old public domain black and white cartoons, from other studios, and gotten some Bosko and/or Buddy cartoons.

Which B&W Looney Tunes, Merrie Melodies and Popeye have never aired on LNB&W?
What'd I like to see the most are:
Porky's Romance (uncut)
Wholly Smoke (uncut)
The Daffy Doc
Kristopher Kolumbus, Jr.
Africa Squeaks (uncut)
The Haunted Mouse
Joe Glow, The Firefly
Porky's Bear Facts
Porky's Preview (uncut)
Porky's Ant
Robinson Crusoe, Jr.
Porky's Midnight Matinee
Saps in Chaps
Daffy's Southern Exposure
The Daffy Duckaroo
If there were enough shows, perhaps CN should consider airing all of them (probably except Bosko, Tokio Jokio and a couple others I can't think of now) right through the finale. An expanded show or 2 + a special all-nighter wouldn't hurt, either. :D

Hey, the weekend 23-24 was supposed the Looney Tunes Marathon of A to Z. Gosh!!!
My first reaction was, too, that of shock and dismay (kinda like earlier this afternoon when I heard the Braves traded for Gary Sheffield), but then I thought for a sec, and Brian was right. The show's gotten rather dull as of late, with the same cartoons repeated over and over and over. They won't show Bosko and Buddy (mainly because they don't have them, and apparently don't want to ask Warner's for them), they show no one-shot LTs, and apparently AMC has the Betty Boop cartoons under lock and key, which limits CN to only the PD Bettys.
But when Jon just posted that list of all the Porkys LNB&W never aired, I was truly shocked. So many innocent titles, like Daffy Doc, Impatient Patient, and Henpecked Duck, never aired!
Still, even though the show got boring and predictable in recent months, I'm sad to see it go. It's like the old saying, half a loaf is better than none.....

No good cartoons on Late Night Black and White?!? They aired "Injun Trouble" in November 2001, and I have seen many rare cartoons on it since late 2000. Also, that was the only place to get B&W copies of many cartoons. It will be missed.
Sunday's Tom and Jerry, Droopy, and Late Night Black and White are going to leave. The Droopy Show cartoons should air on the Acme Hour.
Wait a minute... I had better watch "The Mammy Show" (I forget who made that up)
The Tex Avery and Chuck Jones shows returning is the only good thing that they are doing.
I never did care for anime.

Well, the Droopy show is done for too. So are the Acme Hour (10pm) and Tom & Jerry (1:30am). Toonami-type action shows are taking over. And, as Cartoon Man noted, it looks like the plug has been pulled on the "Looney Tunes A to Z" 48-hour marathon too.

I'm also hoping they'll bring it back someday, though that probably won't be anytime soon. I wish they'd just move it to another night.
Too bad we're losing the 1:30 T&J slot too, that was the only T&J show worth watching.
Man, they really are killing off the classic stuff all of a sudden. :( I don't think that many people will be cheering for the return of the Tex Avery & Chuck Jones shows. Those weren't hardly even worth watching.

Whoa, they're getting rid of the weekend Acme Hour and the Looney Tunes marathon too?! What a bummer! I was looking forward to that marathon...and now there will be nothing worth watching on Saturday evenings anymore. I don't LIKE the anime shows. I know, it sounds like I'm whining. I AM whining. Oh well, at least they're not axing the Looney Tunes on weekend mornings and weekday afternoons....are they?

As I said in an earlier post, to me it seems as if the suits at AOL Time Warner are gearing up to try and force more cable systems to clear Boomerang by moving more and more cartoons -- including the Looney Tunes -- to that network in the future.
Demographcially, CN would become the network targeted towards viewers ages 3-25 (at least in their thinking) with their Cartoon Cartoon shows and the increasing emphasis on violent Japanese Anime (I can just picture some consultant right now explaining how much the 12-18 male demographic loves this kind of stuff), while Boomerang would be more directed at an older demographic (which to an extent it already is anyway). That way the two networks wouldn't canabalize each others ratings, and just as importantly, both networks would have shows that their main two competitors, Disney and Viacom (Nick) don't deal with (Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel go for a youinger demo, while Toon Disney tries to hit the same age groups as CN, but has nothing in the way of Anime programming or any real adventure series outside of "Gargoyles").
Personally, I'm hoping the expanded Anime attempt falls flat on its face, but if AOL Time Warner is hell-bent on forcing more systems to clear Boomerang, even if it does fail, that doesn't mean we won't be seeing "Ed, Edd and Eddy" overnight marathons in the near future...

THIS STINKS!
My all-time favorite show on CN is being canceled!
This is a very unwise move on CN's part, if only they would put more rare surprises on the show the ratings would stay up.
Wait! I've got a plan, maybe if we all keep on watching LNB&W it won't get canned......or is it already getting the butcher's knife?

CN is cancelling all of it's late night Saturday/Sunday cartoons starting next month? ARE THEY NUTS! The only reason I've even been caring about the network lately has been because of the late night Tom and Jerry showings on Saturdays. I am SICK AND TIRED of Cartoon Cartoon shows. It's the same stuff over and over and over again. This stuff is shown all day Saturday and Sunday anyway thanks to Cartoon Oleo and marathon showings. Even Cartoon Cartoon Fridays have been extended to the wee hours of the morning. The network is now all Dexter, Powerpuffs and the like. I'm tried of it, to be totally honest. I guess I know now why CN started airing rare Tom and Jerrys all of a sudden. They're giving us the rare stuff for three months and then ripping it away from us. Say goodbye to Mammy Two-Shoes for a while. If you guys still need Push Button Kitty and Triplet Trouble I'm sure they'll air Saturday night. Hopefully some really good Tom and Jerry videos or DVDs with rare cartoons are forthcoming.

We don't have any of that in the UK. For a loooooong time late night's been-
1.00 Ed,Edd and Eddy
1.30 Powerpuff Girls
2.00 Magic Roundabout (3 hours)
5.00 Fly Tales
5.30 The Moomins
6.00 Another Cartoon Cartoon.
I wonder if we'll ever get LN&BW in the UK? Last saturday 'The Chuck Jones Show' premiered on Boomerang UK,so we might get it soon.

Granted, Bugs and Daffy get a lot of ratings, but they are probably looking at this as a way to diversify and expand their audience. They probably figured "Well, we can't cut back on Scooby Doo, or the Cartoon Cartoons, OR the regular daily showings of color Looney Tunes/Tom and Jerry etc, so let's cut out the black and white cartoons! Everyone knows kids can't stand B&W! And since we are returning the Tex Avery Show, then we don't need Droopy either."

Ok, so explain why we're losing the only Tom and Jerry slot that's even worth checking out every week. That's at least 16 cartoons that will go back in CN's vaults to be seen only when the 2pm and 11:30pm airings are cancelled. And just think, starting the middle of next week all the Tom and Jerry showings will be the Deitch and Jones cartoons shown in order. BOOO!!!!

We all saw this months ago when CN trumpeted its zillion-dollar commitment to even more original productions in the summer of 2000(?).
Boomerang? I still think that can't work, as it doesn't fit in with the year-by-year format, unless you're thinking of the actual Bugs Bunny Shows of the period. I still go for putting them on TCM, which is already in front of plenty of folks both here and in Europe.

Boomerang? I still think that can't work, as it doesn't fit in with the year-by-year format, unless you're thinking of the actual Bugs Bunny Shows of the period.
Cartoon Network and its parent AOL Time Warner in the end don't give a damn about the format. What they're interested in it cable system clearnace rates, which in turn helps dictate the ad rates they can charge.
At the same time, CN looks at the success of something like The Powerpuff Girls, not just in terms of ratings but in terms of marketing clothing, cerials, lunchboxes, wash-off tatoos, etc., that they feel they can increase if they increase the airings on the network.
Bugs and Daffy? The suits are confident their merchandising sales will hold up even if they bump their cartoons off to weekend mornings and after prime time on weeknights, since the franchise is so strong. The animae stuff? Well, that has a Japanese pedigree, but if you looked at the marketing deal for something like Dragonball Z, I'm sure you would find AOL Time Warner getting a cut in there somewhere.
As for the Boomerang "format," it's written in the same stone that AMC wrote they would air movies without commercial interruptions. Remember, all of the Warner Bros. cartoons were removed from syndication, Nickelodeon and ABC in the first place to force not only viewers wanting to see Bugs, Daffy and the rest to watch Cartoon Network, but for cable systems not clearing it to add it to their lineup and for other systems that already had it to move it to a better spot in the lineup.
If the higher-ups at AOL Time Warner thought they could get decent ratings with a Cartoon Network that showed nothing by Cartoons-Cartoons, Toonami and Scooby Doo and if they thought moving all the classic Warners and MGM cartoons from CN to Boomerang would force more systems to add it to their lineup, they'd do it in a heartbeat.
