I'm guessing (by only actually seeing a VERY small portion of the DCAU) that it's because

(Show answer): Nightwing is trying to establish himself as his own person, and Robin is with the DCAU Teen Titans.

(Real Life Answer): The rights were tied up due to Teen Titans.

Thanks man for the info because in a way JL/JLU always had batman helping the team instead of batmans #1 sidekick helping him out

Teen Titans is not in continuity with JLU, and all hints on TT indicate that the TT Robin is Dick Grayson (Nightwing from TNBA).

Writing for non-powered characters on a powers-based show like JLU was hard enough with Batman. Adding his partners would've made it worse.

The thug in one of the old Batman episodes ("You Scratch My Back") hit the nail on the head when he first met Nightwing: "What have we here, Batman Lite?"

Nightwing, Robin and Batgirl basically have the exact same schtick and gadgets as Batman. JLU did have other non-powered heroes, but at least they all have different schtick. Green Arrow has his arrows. Vigilante has guns. Shining Knight has a sword, magic armour and rides a Pegasus. Huntress has her crossbow. But the Bat-Family would seem like Batman clones... and that doesn't contribute to the story.

At the same time as JL, Robin was featured in a Static Shock episode and the DTV, "Mystery of the Batwoman." "Batwoman", which takes place at the same time as season 2 of JL, estabishes that Batgirl is studying in England during that time, making her unable to serve in the League.

Tim Drake is living with Alfred during JL/JLU. At Superman's funeral in "Hereafter", you can see Alfred and Tim Drake in the background. Barbara (Batgirl) is mentioned by Ma Kent in "Comfort and Joy" when Clark asks, "Where's Kara?" Ma replieds, "Skiing with Barbara." Nightwing's sillohuette can be seen atop a building in "Grudge Match."

JL/JLU contains enough hints to assure the audiene that the Bat-Family still exists, but is not involved with (nor needed by) the Justice League.

Bat-Embargo. Corporate edict preventing any Bat-characters or villains aside from Batman himself from appearing on JLU in order to avoid "confusion" with any versions of the characters that did or may still appear on The Batman. Complaining is not recommended; the dead horse respectfully requests the beatings stop.

LOL, yeah.

Although there was no Bat-Embargo in the first two seasons of Justice League, and even then they used very few Bat-characters.

Face the facts people, the creative team never needed nor wanted to use a lot of Bat-characters. I think the scene with Firefly and Volcana perfectly illustrates how Bat-characters were not threatening enough to fight in Justice League battles.

However thanks to cameos and brief apperances, you got to see almost all of Gotham's characters at least once on JL. Take a look:

1. Joker ("Injustice For All", "Wild Cards", "Only a Dream" and "A Better World")

2. Two-Face ("A Better World")

3. Poison Ivy ("A Better World")

4. Scarface ("A Better World")

5. Clock King ("Task Force X")

6. Etrigan ("A Knight of Shadows", "Kid stuff")

7. Alfred ("Hereafter", "Starcrossed")

8. Nightwing ("Grudge Match")

9. Barbara Gordon ("The Savage Time")

10. Tim Drake ("The Savage Time", "Hereafter")

11. Firefly ("Only a Dream")

12. Phantasm ("Epilogue")

So there you have it. All of those characters were SHOWN, and several of them SPOKE. Barbara was verbally referenced in "Comfort and Joy". There were also continuity references like the Scarface dummy in the Batcave, and Mr. Freeze's ice gun.

Also the entire Batman Beyond cast appeared:

1. Terry/Batman

2. Dana Tan

3. Warren and Mary McGinnis

4. Inque

5. Shriek

6. Aquagirl

7. Warhawk

8. Barda

9. Future GL

Instead of complaining about the embargo, why not be happy with what you got?

Because it's a silly corporate clause... >_>;.

The Bat-villains being my favourite thing about the DCAU and all =\. They used Luthor in practically every episode of season 2 and 3 of JLU... I'm sure there was a point when Scarecrow or Bane or the Riddler (All the Smallville jokes hehe) would have been neat.

But I guess it's all over and done with anyway. Oh well.

The question has been answered and I would say it has been answered rather well. Honsetly, I can see this thread going only one route from here and it's not something we want (this link can answer any further questions for inquiring minds (http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/WF/sections/faq/boardfaq.php#embargo)).

I welcome you to TZ, Meg0507 and I'm glad you got an answer to your question, but thread closed.
