Can anyone think of any commercials that have been around a LONG time, or at least were run on television longer than usual (most commercials plays for 1-2 months, and then are taken off). Here are some I can think of.
The Tootisie Pop commercial with the boy asking Mr. Owl how many licks it takes to get the the center of the pop, has been around like forever. Although nowadays when it's played, the scene with Mr. Turtle is cut out.
The Tootsie Roll commerical with the tune "Whatever it is I think I See, Becomes A Tootsie Roll To Me" played from the 70s, into, at least the late 90s (I haven't seen it recently, except at YouTube).

Yeah, I haven't seen the Tootsie Pop one in a long time, and I don't think I've ever even seen the Crying Indian one, aside from clips in some specials and such.

This is a local commerical, but :
New Jersey Children's museum.
The kids pictured in that commercial, when I first saw it at like age 5, are at least my age now(21), and that damn thing is STILL running.

Speaking of long-running local commercials, there's a commercial for "Catfield Gamepark" (in Connecticut) that's been running every few months for as long as I can remember.

Yeah that commerical has been on since the 1960's (I think).

It started airing in 1970, and not in the '60s.

I've actually never seen that crying Indian ad before. It starts off very effective (well, in typically heavyhanded 70s fashion) but falls apart at the end. I couldn't help bursting out laughing when the poor guy has garbage dumped all over his feet. The fake tear isn't very convincing either.

They made a remake of the crying indian commercial in 1994 where a poster of the indian is at a bus station. Someone throws a cup toward a garbage can but misses (as he's getting on the bus) and a CGI tear drops from the eye of the indian on the poster.

800-588-2300 Empire... TODAY!
But, don't they make new versions every now and again? There was the Christmas one, the older one, and the ad with the newlywed couple.

I'm sure that the Scruff McGruff commercials have been around a long time. Same with Smokey the Bear.

The commercial for Norelco electric razors that has Santa Claus sliding downhill (riding an electric razor) has been around for 30+ years. They make different versions of it (the original was B&W), but I see it nearly every year during the holiday season.

Alex Toon reminded me of another long running ad.
That 3-D Mortal Kombat bully ad for Scruff Mcgruff.
Seriously, that ad has been running FOREVER.

The Zoobooks ad has been running for a long time too.
Also, that "Muzzy" series that teaches kids about foreign languages has been around since the early 90s. Interestingly enough, today they have not bothered to update the ad, to mention DVDS of the series. Hm.

Didn't they refilm it to fit in with the new look Zoobooks a few years back?Only a few years back? The promo they air today, if I recall correctly, is the same one I'd see during Toonami back in '99. The mom talks about Zoobooks being beneficial and the kid runs out to the postman to get his magazine, all with the same background music.

And the same monkey crapping on the kid's chair.
Yep, it's the same one as back then. :p

The commercial can't be more than a year old.

'99? I'm pretty sure that commercial's been running at least as long as Cartoon Network's been around, since the early 90s. I'm at the point now where my mind blanks out when that commercial comes on. It's like a sort of temporary, self-induced amnesia. It's pretty interesting, actually.

B.C. Clarks Jewelers, local jewelery (obviously) store, has this right-before-Christmas sale every year, and for as long as I can remember (and most likely before) they've been playing the same commercial with the same little jingle every year.
"Most sales are Christmas. This one is just before. Prices are marked way down, savings you can't ignore! Its Oklahoma's oldest jeweler, since 1892. SO give the gift you know can't fail at B.C. Clarks anniversary sale!"
Or something like that,

Discount Tire Co. has been using the same ad for almost thirty years now, where the angry customer throws the tire through the store window. A Discount Tire store opened near my place a few months ago, they should have opened it like how they christen ships, only instead of a wine bottle throw a tire through the window.
And every holiday season they use the same Budweiser ad with the clydesdales in the snow.
The NCAA has been airing their student athlete ads for a few years now, but that doesn't really count because they have so many new athletes to film commercials with. But I bet the ad style will go on for a while. After all, only a handful of the 350,000 NCAA student athletes will be going pro in sports. (come on, they played those ads at just about every ad break during the March tourney)

Those Coca Cola bear commercials have been airing for, at least it feels like, several years now, around Christmas. So has the "He does exist!" M & M Santa commercials (at least I think it still does).

Yeah, except nowadays they put a "Do Not Attempt" disclaimer at the bottom of the screen. That commercial never used to have that.

We have that ad here too, but we've only had it for the last ten years. I thought it was exclusive to our region--guess not.
And "Do Not Attempt" is not on our version.

I first remember seeing it around 1988,,,The Clapper ad is even older (im thinking 86-87).
The video-game themed McGruff the Crime Dog ad used to play on Kid's WB all the time. I still see it on TV (mostly local) every so often.
...those were good days.
