Now that I've seen some redubbed Mammys this past saturday, I'm shocked at how much they changed what she said originally, not to mention the fact that the voice was a teensy bit out of step with the action. (I compared them) But now I'm wondering who did the voice when they redubbed Mammy? And who did the original voice(s) in the 40's?

According to the 50 Years of Cat and Mouse book, Lillian Randolph voiced Mammy in the old cartoons. I have no idea who does her voice now.

The new voice of Mammy is done by one of the african-americans execs that work at CN.

And for those of you who are saying, 'Lillian Randolph, who the freak is that?,' just pop in a videotape of "It's a Wonderful Life" (come on, you know you have one). She plays the maid.

Yeah, there are 2 characters named Bert & Ernie after whom the guys from Sesame Street are named.

Soooooo in summary Mammy Two Shoes has been voiced by three different women...

1. Lillian Randolph (The DIRECTORS choice for the voice!!)

2. June Foray - Redubbed with a thick-as-mud IRISH BROGUE!!! Talk about surreal!!! Jones and Foray evidently had heard about the so-called "Black Irish" :D :D And decided to make a warped joke. (The "Black Irish" had darker eyes and hair than the standard Irish, some have linked them to the aftermath of the sinking of the Spanish Armada). Always nice to have the white female voice of Rocky the Flying Squirrel voicing a Black lady...

3. An un-named CN female exec who just by chance happens to be Black, making her talented enough to dub over lines by real professionals... :bosko: :bosko: :bosko:

Still doesn't compare to hearing Foray's voice as narrator in that infamous Playboy sensual massage video. Hokey smoke, Bullwinkle! ;)

I missed that one John... (Must have been kind of like seeing Hal Smith in that X-rated film...),

Things I certainly don't want to dream about!!!

Tim --

I happened to run across this one by accident one night, while flipping through the channels on a cable system that didn't have a real strong filter for The Playboy Channel on it. My reaction was basically an audio double-take, as I watched the nude woman spread oil on her naked partner's back before doing petrosage, and as the female narrator started talking I was thinking "That voice....where have I heard that voice?" Until the horrid realization suddenly dawned on me.

No, I didn't change the channel right away, I had to watch a little bit more, just for the shock value, the same way rubberneckers slow down going by a fatal car crash. And while the man and woman continued their sensual massage techniques on each others' bodies, every time Foray's voice would start up I couldn't help thinking of the haunting tones of Natasha Fatal entoning, "Fearless Leader says kill moose and squirrel."

I did post a note about this little horror last year on the usenet WB board and was told by someone (Mark Evanier, I think) that June didn't know what kind of video it was when she agreed to do narration for it, and was pretty embarassed when it came out.

Hmmmm... sounds similar to how Jay Ward got her to sign for doing the original Rocky and Bullwinkle show!! (By her account she agreed to meet Ward for lunch to discuss it. Jay wanted her badly for the show, and so primed her heavily with champagne till she was giddy, then pushed the contract to her).

Wonder who she had lunch with before the Playboy massage deal??? :)

Speaking of June Foray, is that her in those Get Glad commercials? The one who says, "They love me when I cook, and they leave me to clean up!" Also, is that Cynthia Mann hosting the Get Glad commercials?
