View Full Version : Your favorite Commissioner Gordon : Jim or Barbara?
The Old Maid

Thanks again to Brian Cruz for figuring out the logon problems I was having.
Barbara of BATMAN BEYOND may be smarter (her eidetic memory combined with having Jim and the Bat family as teachers), but I think Jim Gordon's a better Commish. The late Joker2967 wrote a wonderful tribute to Jim, now on "World's Finest" Editorial Page (see link below).
Jim Gordon owns up to his mistakes, cares deeply, and isn't too proud to ask for help. He's reliable ; you can trust him.

Are you the same Old Maid that wrote the thing about why Max sucks? That was a great essay. I like James Gordon better, especially after having read Batman: Year One. He was the man in it.

Barbara was an icey witch in Batman Beyond, and she was seriuosly uh...too serious, in fact I thought she was awesome in TAS and TNBA but in BB she was a jerk, Jim was the better commisioner by far
PS and I can't stand her little husband...

For me, Jim Gordon is the ONLY Commissioner Gordon. Commissioner Barbara Gordon doesn't exist yet, and probably never will, since Bruce Timm and Paul Dini admitted that they are planning to overwrite BB in other Batman shows.
I wouln't be surprised if Barbara turns out to become Oracle in future episodes after all.
But anyhoo, if i really have to...
Jim Gordon will always be the best Commish. And in his time (the present) his daughter is someone i love very very much. In BB his Daughter is... too old, ugly, and bitter.
I meen, Bruce Wayne will always be the best Batman. The ONLY Batman. To me both Terry Mcginnes and Commissioner Barbara Gordon are one big fat joke, made up by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini after smoking six joints and watching to many Star Trek Voyager episodes...

Yes, it is. One of The Great Ones. :)
Jim. Integrity, dependability and shrewdness are three trump cards that cannot be beaten. Babs has them too (would she be his daughter if she didn't) but not to the extent he does.

I loved Batgirl/Barb in B:TAS/TNBA, and seeing what she became in BB was really depressing. I hated that. I know everyone gets old eventually, and this probably has to do with the fact I despised everything about BB in the first place, but it made me sad- plus NO ONE can beat Jim! HE IS Commisioner Gordon, totally!

Jim all the way! He's the only true commisioner. When you say Gordon, you think Jim, not Barbara. Jim was just this essence of the GCPD, he was the soul of it. Barb as Commish was neat, but kinda trippy for me. She never seemed to be the type that would go into law enforcement, especially with her having been Batgirl. It's hard to beat an original, and Jim is a great original commisioner.

Jim was the better commissioner; at least he knew that the city needed Batman.
Also, does anyone have a link to this essay about why Max sucks? It just seems like something I would like to know more about, considering she was the worst character on the show.

Jim by far.

It's no wonder Bruce idolizes Jim so much. He's the absolute best, hands down. He's as much a hero as Batman is. :) And I absolutely loved how BTAS often showed that in some episodes.

Sassy, I have decided I do not like you.
Jim gorden all the way. I hated barbara in bb. she was as bad in bb as jim was in no mans land. does she honastley belive that Terry does not make any diffrence? She WAS right about one thing. what bruce had became. {I think he's a jerk.} and all this crap {can i type "crap" on this broad?} about he relanship with dick being "puppy love" and her apparently marring bruce, are the only reasons I think BB will never happen. {personally I think it sucks that this is a elseworlds thing. I LOVE BATMAN BEYOND!!!!!!} and she says "bruce wouldn't, or couldn't", I mean, doesn't she understand what bruce had to do?
max sucks.

Why??? Because i don't like BB? Because i live in the present time, and not in a possible future?
And also, if the producers had not said BB was just a "Possible Future" Or "elsworlds" like Paul Dini said, the whole animated Batman story would have been finished. Cause they couln't continue with more "Present day" Batman adventures, because then they had nowhere to go with the characters lives.
That's pretty much the only problem i have with the SW Prequells. You know? Cause we all know how it's going to end for Anakin, Yoda, and Ben Kenobi. Don't think i don't like SW, cause i'm a big fan!
But anyhoo, now that the possible future of BB is behind us, we can continue with JL in the present/TNBA timeframe as if nothing happend. Like i said, BB to me is like a Star Trek episode. They very often deal with Alternative reality and possible future. And Janeway and Picard are my favorite captains! "Q" is my fav. character of the whole series!

I never really liked Batman Beyond, so I'd have to say good old Jim! Sure, Barbara made for an interesting commish, having once been Batgirl, but all in all Jim rules :)

Do not make it personal. If you disagree with another's posters opinions and reasons, talk about the reasons and not the poster.

Yeah, man, we all love the charecters, we all have our own tightly formed opinions-that's why we're here, to disscuss them. Calm down a bit.

In a lot of ways, Jim is sorta like what Batman was, only w/ a badge. Gotham is Jim's city almost as much as it is Batman's.
Barbara apparently stopped believing in some of the ideals of the bat as she got older.
It's not so much a bad thing for Babs, but Jim is the only Commish for Gotham.

Oh yeah, and another reason i like Commish Jim Gordon better then Commissioner Barbara Gordon is because i sorta see him as my father-in-law! ;)
And the old Commissioner Barbara Gordon in BB is not even a shadow of Babs Gordon in TNBA
