I know that we usually don't post results from house shows here, but with the recent rumors and such, I figure that this is a special occasion. Besides, I wasnt to get a positive review out there in the open. (Synopsis: Great show.) I'll save the general comments for last.
Match One: The FBI (Little Guido and Tony Mamaluke) vs. Doring and Roadkill - Roadkill was insanely over. The crowd popped for everything he did no matter how small, and it was obvious that he was eating it up. Little Guido got the pin, but by that point, no one really cared. Major points go to Doring and The FBI, who basically took a step back and let go wild. Winners: FBI
Match Two: Fertig (The Vampire) vs. CM Punk - Major X-Pac heat on the former Mordecai, and for good reason. The guy really, really sucks. I mean, he's a natural when it comes to playing the vampire character, but really blew chunks in the ring. Punk tried his best to accomodate him, it he still looked pretty terrible. Nice pop for Punker, but it was obvious that only of the crowd knew who he was. Winner: CM Punk
The Kelly Segment - Kelly came out and started to do her thing. Just as her she was ready to take her bra off, Jazz ran out and went to town on her. Jazz looked justt as good as she did when she was on Raw. Kelly... she had absolutely no idea how to make the beating look real. Again, Jazz tried her best to cover it up, but Kelly's ineptitute came through. Finally, Mike Knox came out with a towel and Jazz ran to the back. That leads us to...
Match Three: Mike Knox vs. Balls Mahoney - Good match overall. The crowd loved Balls (no pun intended), but after awhile, Knox started to grow on them. While I don't think that he will be ECW champion any time soon, it was obvious that Knox is a few steps above the Gene Snitsky or Great Khalis of the world. No chair shots, but I honestly don't think that any were needed. Winner: Mike Knox
Match Four: CW Anderson vs. Sabu - All of the crazy crap one comes to expect from a Sabu match, only in a shorter, more compact form. Anderson really didn't get that much of a reaction when he came out, but did get a small pop when the match ended. Although it seemed that Sabu was meant to be the heel (complete with chasing the ref with a spike), he recieved one of the biggest pops of the night. Winner: Sabu
--Intermission--
Match Five: The Sandman vs. Justin Credible in a "Dueling Canes" Match - Simply put, it was a Sandman match. Long ring entrance? Check. Beer? Check. Singapore cane? Check. It wasn't a squash by any means, but it was obvious that the match was all about The Sandman. Winner: The Sandman
Match Six: Test vs. Tommy Dreamer - As much as it pains me to say it, not only was Test over, he looked damn good. Test, who appears to have a manly man bodybuilder gimmick (think A-1 from TNA, not Chris Masters), played to the crowd perfectly, especially during impromptu posedown that began the match. I can't believe that I'm saying this, but I'm actually looking forward to see him on TV. He ended the match with a modified Van Daminator, replacing RVD's spinning heel kick with the classic "Big Boot." Winner: Test
Main Event: Big Show vs. Rob Van Dam for the ECW Title - Boring match. RVD and Big Show's style don't mesh well, and it shows. Both men were over, though Big Show lost his heat halfway through the match. RVD "playing" with the WWE spinner belt got a huge pop from the crowd, as did the Five Star Frog Splash. The crowd seemed to be let down a bit by this match, mainly because the challenger was Show, not the hometown hero Kurt Angle. Winner and still champion: Rob Van Dam
Random Thoughts:
- Roughly 85% of the crowd was made up of old-shcool ECW fans.
- The crowd was hot all night.
- Fertig the Vampire went over like a lead balloon.
- It appears that CM Punk has himself new ring music.
- Kelly really needs to take some acting acting lessons... and wrestling classes.
- Will somebody please push CW Anderson?
- Making Sabu a heel is useless at this point. There is no way that anyone is going to boo him.
- The crowd didn't seem to be bothered by the absence of "Enter Sandman."
- Test had the crowd in the palm of his hand for the most part.
- Big time "We Want Angle" and "We want Paul E." chants throughout the main event.
Overall Crowd Reaction - Really positive on the whole. Most of the negative reviews that I heard had the following attached to it: "...If guys from (insert favorite Indy promotion here) were here, they would wipe the floor with these guys."
Biggest Pops:
1) Roadkill (by far)
2) RVD
3) Sabu
4) Balls Mahoney
5) Test/CM Punk (tie)
Biggest Heat:
1) Fertig (X-Pac heat)
2) Big Show
3) Justin Credible
4) Test (At the end of the match)
5) The fact that Angle wasn't there
