WARNING: Spoilerrific Thread
So what's your favorite quest in a video game?
Mine is the Stillwater Giant quest from Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura.
In the pursuit of the game's main quest I have to find an hidden elf city and end up in Stillwater (a mountain town that's in the same area as a hard to find mountain pass that leads to the part of the continent as the elf city). In Stillwater I found an elf with a particular sense of humor that tasks my character with finding him the pelt of a local legendary creature (that probably doesn't really exist) the Stillwater Giant.
I asked around town and found out there's guy living at the edge of town that suppose to be an expert on the Giant. My character talks to the "expert" and ask for his help. He agrees as long as I capture the Giant and show it to members of the University of Tarant (one of the main cities in the game); 'how the heck am I suppose to capture a giant?'. Well he explains that it is a shape-shifter that turns into a blue bunny to save energy ('ok?') and that its den is a cave close to town. The catch is that if I startle it it will turn into its big claws-and-teeth giant form and most likely rip my head off; so the 'expert' gives me a small cage and some 'special musk' and instrucks me to go to cave, take off my clothing, cover my character with the musk, sneak-up on the blue bunny and trap in the cage. I do so. He's happy to see I captured it and tells me to make it post haste to the University and talk to the head of the zoology department. I do so. The zoology department head points out that the bunny has been painted blue and that my character reeks of bear urine. I return to Stillwater, ask the 'expert' 'WTF?!?!', and it becomes apparent he is completely loony toons.
So I have to stop to think 'were am I suppose to get a pelt of this bloody thing?'; then I realized there was a fake (and fake looking) one in a house of curiosities ran by a P.T. Barnum type character...back in Tarant (did I mention there are no rail lines between Stillwater and Tarant?). Back to Tarant. I manage to convince faux-Barnum that the fake pelt is looking too tread bear and to sell it to me. Back to Stillwater. I give the fake pelt to the elf, tell him it's a fake and were it's from, he thinks this was all one bloody fun joke, and tells me the location of the hidden elf city and the location of the mountain pass.
On the way to the mountain pass my party encounters a blue bunny that turns out to be the real Stillwater Giant and attempts to rip my character's head off. Well then I had the pelt of the real Stillwater Giant in inventory. So I decide to go the short way back to Stillwater and give the pelt to the elf. He's dumbfounded that I had the real thing (he thought the Giant was purely a myth), but just wanted his fun and not the pelt. Then I realize I can recoup my losses (and possibly make a profit) if I sell the real pelt to the faux-Barnum. So back to Tarant, sell the pelt, and back to Stillwater.
So now I can get back to my main bloody quest, go through the bloody mountain pass, find the bloody hidden elf city, and talk to the bloody elf high mother so I can find out about the bloody missing Dwarf Clan and if my character ia the bloody second coming of a major religious figure.
Well at least there was that orgy at the Stillwater Temple of Geshtianna.
