I guess there was a reason CC paid for the rights to air Futurama after all.

I'm happy whatever network it's on.

Now why couldn't they resurrect some of the other good shows they've acquired instead of being an animation graveyard?

Is this actually 13 new episodes, or is this just the 4 movies that were previously announce? Depending on final length and such, 4 movies would generally equal about 12 to 16 episodes. This may not actually be anything new.

But in a season format, if ratings are gotten, hope for further continuation goes on as well.

Heh, I wonder if the first episode will have to do with ressurecting old TV shows.

Wow, if this is really new episodes, that's great news.

Seriously. I remember on The Critic DVD commentary, either Al Jean or Mike Reiss mentioned how that show was at one time the number one show on Comedy Central. Maybe they saw Futurama and decided to make up for that mistake?

Also, before we discussion of ressurecting "The Critic" starts, I'll just say no, please no! If it were 10 years ago I would say "Yes" for sure, but it's been well over that time and there's no point now.

BTW They ressurected The Critic for 10 mini-episodes on AtomFilms. They were OK, but they didn't have the charm of the old show.
As to Futurama bring brought back, yes.

I'm really sure where to put this. Futurama's an Adult Swim show currently, but the new eps are going to be on Comedy Central.

Oh well. Here's the article.

Comedy Central Revives 'Futurama'
Latest Fox Project to Reappear on Cable
By James Hibberd
Three years after Fox canceled the show, Matt Groening's "Futurama" will resume production for a 13-episode run on Comedy Central. The new episodes will be added to the network's library of 72 "Futurama" episodes previously licensed from 20th Century Fox Television. Voice talent Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio will return for the new episodes, which will debut in 2008.

"There is a deep and passionate fan base for this intelligent and very funny show that matches perfectly with our audience and it is great that we can offer them not just the existing library, but something they've never seen as well," said David Bernath, senior VP, programming, Comedy Central.

"Futurama" marks the third Fox project revived by basic cable in recent years. New episodes of "Greg the Bunny" are being ordered by IFC, and Fox resurrected "Family Guy" after the series found success on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.

Kinda surprised no one else posted this.

Someone actually already did but this is a more straight-forward thread title.

How odd... I did a search to make sure that I wasn't double posting, but the search didn't bring up either thread mentioned. Sorry about that.

It's not animated, but as someone on Slashdot said, all we need now is for somebody to pick up Firefly to complete the set. :¬)

Wow, did Comedy Central ever shaft Adult Swim...

Then again, Cartoon Network should have tried cranking out the money as much as they could right away for this show too. At least they still have Family Guy.

I don't think they had anywhere close to the amount of money they would have needed at the time. Futurama costs $1.2 million an episode to make. Even a percentage of that is a lot of money. These days, when Adult Swim does have a lot more money, they are spending $400,000 an episode on Boondocks, and even that is taking up a huge chunk of their budget.

True, but what about their partners at TBS and Time Warner themselves?

True, but what about their partners at TBS and Time Warner themselves?

That would require various divisions of TimeWarner to work together, something that rarely happens.

Is it REALLY coming back this time, or is this going to be debunked next week? (again)

Sorry, I'm a bit paranoid after all of the rumors.

Initially I was bummed that AS wasn't all over making new Futuramas, but seriously...who cares as long as they air? Then I got to thinking...how can you go wrong with new Futuramas on a network that airs South Park, Drawn Together, Reno 911, and a slew of other great shows (an some rather non-great ones). It'll be fun watching Comedy Central for more then just a two show stint!

Wow, it's so weird aligning Drawn Together, South Park, AND Futurama together. Futurama just doesn't have the feel of a Comedy Central show after being on Adult Swim all these years. It's almost like if Family Guy (which I could have seen happening in the past, but now not really) or moreso, it feels like if Comedy Central funded season 2 of the Venture Bros. because CN didn't end up doing so.

I remember hearing Comedy Central had two more animated programs in the works. Since South Park and Drawn Together are already hits on Comedy Central, Futurama was a huge hit on Adult Swim (and likely will continue success on Comedy Central), with those two new animated programs in the works, as well as some of their older acquired shows, I could foresee at least one night of true competition from Comedy Central against Adult Swim animation wise. If they do, I think they should try Sunday night. Not going to write a full schedule, but some shows they could air (similar to that Sic'emation week):

Futurama
Beavis and Butthead
The Critic
ILL-ustrated
South Park
Drawn Together
3 South
Under Grads
The 2 Newly Acquired Shows (If they come)
Gary and Mike
etc.

Sorry, I'm a bit paranoid after all of the rumors.

Well, according to the other thread on the General forum, it's actually just going to be the four Direct to Video movies being broken up into sixteen episodes.

Why doesn't Adult Swim Outbid Comedy Central for the right to air Futurama?
