Superman / DC
Geez, with all the Superman stuff coming out this week, you'd almost think there's another Superman movie (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=167340) coming out or something. Wacky!
There are just about as many Superman DVDs this week than everything else in total:
Adventures of Superman: The Complete 3rd and 4th Seasons Lois and Clark: Season 3 Look, Up in the Sky... (available in both one and two disc editions) Superboy: Season 1 Superman: The Animated Series: Vol. 3 Superman: Brainiac Attacks (talkback (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=168714))
...and close enough to being along those same lines to warrant a spot up top:
Justice League: Season 2 Krypto the Superdog: Vol. 1
Animated DVDs
Along with the mounds of Supes/DC stuff listed above, there's also Disney's direct-to-video sequel Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure.
TV-on-DVD
I'll mention the big Superman list up top one more time on the off-chance you missed it, but aside from that, it's kind of a light week:
King of Queens: Season 5 Married...with Children: Season 5 The Mary Tyler Moore Show: Season 4 NewsRadio: Season 4 NYPD Blue: Season 4Yes, this is the season of NewsRadio with "Super Karate Monkey Death Car".
Recent Theatrical Releases
Eight Below, the remake of The Hills Have Eyes, and Syriana are all coming out in separate widescreen and full-frame editions, so be sure to pick up the one you want. The Hills Have Eyes is also being released in unrated and rated editions, so...keep an extra eye out there too.
No such troubles for the sole limited theatrical release, Night Watch.
Re-releases and Collections
The Omen and What's Eating Gilbert Grape? are both getting the special edition re-release treatment this week.
There are just two collections of note to rattle off. First up is Vol. 1 of The Charlie Chan Collection, which includes Charlie Chan in London, Charlie Chan in Egypt, Charlie Chan in Paris, and Charlie Chan in Shanghai. Clark Gable: The Signature Collection includes Dancing Lady, China Seas, San Francisco, Wife vs. Secretary, Boom Town, and Mogambo.
Back Catalog Titles
Hey, isn't this section usually barren? There's actually some stuff to list today, mostly from the late '60s and '70s: A Fine Madness, The Gang that Couldn’t Shoot Straight, I Love You, Alice B. Toklas!, The Loved One, Nate and Hayes, and Petulia.
Five titles previously only available in Universal's massive Hitchcock box set are now being released individually -- Frenzy, Rope, Saboteur, Topaz, and The Trouble With Harry. The movies in the Clark Gable Signature Collection listed above are also being released on their own.
Blu-ray
If you've been waiting for it, here you go! Sony's initial salvo of Blu-ray titles includes 50 First Dates, The Fifth Element, Hitch, House of Flying Daggers, Terminator, Underworld: Evolution, and xXx.
HD DVD
That other high-definition format has a couple titles coming out too: Syriana and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.
In Closing...
For a list of some of the best prices as well as the latest price drops for existing titles, check Mike Frezon's weekly thread on the Home Theater Forum (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/showthread.php?t=236769) and SalesCircular.com (http://www.salescircular.com/). A relatively comprehensive list of this week's releases can be found at DVD Talk (http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/bargain.php) and ComingSoon.net (http://www.comingsoon.net/dvd/jun06.php).
So -- what are you getting this week? I'm still wading through two separate Deep Discount DVD orders, so I don't need anything else to keep me busy for a while.
