Well doesn't this beat all.. talk about dumb.. this guy should have known one thing...
Rule #1: Don't take your birth certificate with you when you want to rob a bank!
According to this report which was filed on Friday, June 16th, the case goes down like this, and it sounds like the proverbial question..
How many brain cells did this criminal have functioning?
According to the report:
No one ever said that criminals are not stupid.
Police in Indianapolis, Indiana, have arrested a man they say robbed a bank. How did they know they had their man? He left behind his birth certificate.
A security camera captured the crime, but police identified their suspect as 31-year-old Rodney Harper. They didn’t need the surveillance tape, because of said birth certificate. The piece of paper fell out of his pocket during the heist.
Why he was carrying around his birth certificate is anyone’s guess.
“He actually came to the bank to rob the bank with his birth certificate,” said Marion County sheriff’s Capt. Phil Burton. “He dropped a check cashing card as well as a bill from a phone showing he paid his phone bill.”
The video shows the ID falling onto the floor as the man pulls out his gun.
“One of the employees actually stepped on it so he didn’t realize what he dropped,” Burton said.
Police said Harper got away with an unspecified amount of cash, but it was found, covered in dye, not far from the bank.
Harper called 911 on June 13 as police surrounded his home.
“I’m wanting to turn myself in. The police are outside the house right now. I just wanted to let them know I don’t have any weapons. I just want to come out,” Harper said to a 911 dispatcher.
Burton owned up to the fact that the robber’s mistakes are only made investigators’ job easier.
“When they actually rob a bank with their ID, which they leave for us, that’s very helpful,” Burton said.
According to investigators, Harper robbed the Charter One Bank on June 10, losing his birth certificate, check cashing card and phone bill in the process.
Now this proves one thing... if you're going to commit 'the perfect crime' be sure to do one thing....
Leave your birth certificate... at home.... Nuff said.
