View Full Version : C&C - Eureka Seven - "Higher than the Sun" [6/16]
A backstory episode that actually contains no flashbacks or backstory whatsoever?
Wait, I guess it's just an episode then.

It is a good episode. Not as shocking as the last, but still very enjoyable. It is also nice to see more of Talho and Holland's relationship.

What the hell? They're pronouncing Anemone the way it should be in English. Why is Eureka the only english word they refuse to pronounce correctly in English?
I was waiting to hear "An-nay-mo-nay" like it was being pronounced in the original Japanese. I have no problem with it being said correctly, I just don't get why they chose not to do that with Eureka.

Just hope she's capable of delivering bipolar psychotic characters. Not happy that they're going with a normal pronounciation after saying "Euhreka." Ann-ey-moe-ney doesn't sound half as irregular, and it's twice as fun to say.

Oh man I saw that Anemone looking like Eureka coming a mile away. I was like  "I can't believe it" when she was under the covers. What's up with the blood dripping from her nose? Does that get explained soon? As for the ep it was nice and more of the same old stuff from Renton. Damn that scene where he was going in to lay one on her and smacked his head was so hilarious that it made me spit my milk that I was drinking. No joke. :D But man though he certainly has a lot of questions. What's with all the questions? This gets a 8/10 for me.
On a side note: I usually see the Gekkostate in the air. Do they ever refuel? I haven't seen them do that in the show. Or has it been shown and I just missed it?

It was a nice watch. Though, it seemed they didn't really put much effort into Holland's part of the episode. Sure, they'll probably focus more of it in future episodes, but watching Holland go "I wanna forget! I wanna forget!" for most of the episode isn't much. Renton got the best parts in the episode. It was great when the guys told him to "spill it" when he attempted to kiss Eureka.

an anemone is a sedentary sea creature, like a sponge. It is basically a an upsidown jellyfish that stays in one place.

Well Anemone is actually the name of a flower which eventually had those sea sponge creatures named after it.
The story behind the anemone flower's name is a sad one. The name comes from Greek and roughly translates into “windflower”. It is said in Greek Mythology that the anemone flower sprang up from the blood of Aphrodite's slain lover, Adonis. The name “windflower” signifies that the wind that blows the petal open will also, eventually, blow the dead petals away.

Okay I watched this episode tonight and I have to say this: Why are they wanting to go surf on a Seismic Sea Wave (Tsunami)? I mean comes on they went all the way almost half way around the planet they were on just to go surf a tidal wave? (This ep kind of rang Ominous of the 2004 Tsunami but then you got this issue with Renton and Eureka.. and Holland and Talho man those two need a cold shower I think. (But yeah Renton first burning Talho's military jacket and then Trying to Kiss Eureka? Oh man this kid is having raging hormones..(Hmmm maybe that Tsunami would have cooled him off!
Over all not a bad ep, but still The Ballistic Jump was crazy.. I mean going into suborbital flight is a nice idea.. but I wouldn't want to try a stunt like that.. just to go surf a tsunami...

Well, it's not an actual wave of water. It's a wave of Trapar, that green energy that Lifters can lift on and the Gekko-go flies on.
As for why they went half way around the world just to lift on it, well, it sounds like a once in a long time sort of wave, heh. The majority of those on the Gekko-go are Lifters, so if they see a huge wave like that, they just want to go ride it.
And I do not think the wave would've caused any damage. Trapar is all around them.
Also, on Anemone, it sounded like Dewey pronounced her name correctly to me.

Why don't you ask surfers who travel all the way to Hawaii to catch a few waves? Many of them travel across half a planet to get there too.

I just want to say that I like this laid back attitude the Gekko State. This whole free-love-live-live-for-the-moment-travel-half-way-across-the-world-for-the-next-big-wave-sorry-we-used-to-be-in-the-military-and-killed-people-but-we'll-adopt-these-three-kids-to-make-up-for-it way of approaching life. I believe it signifies the disenfranchised youth, a "lost generation" if you will, rising up against a corrupt state.
That and they have characters named Moondoggie and Gidget. Gotta love that.

No they pronounced it the weird way its pronounced here.
I think they do it cause the english pronounciation for eureka just sounds odd for a name.

Interesting tidbit about this show.. just about every name in this show is a reference to something.
Like Renton's name being a reference to the film Trainspotting, his father's name being a reference to Ad-Rock from the Beastie boys, and his grandfather's name being a reference to Axl Rose. I could go on.. but I'm lazy..

The reason why i hate Talho for all eterny-

i wanted to throw my TV out the window for thatWhat? If I were Talho, I'd hit it! ;)
I do also question the need or want to go halfway across the globe to catch a very big wave, but I'm guessing the Gekkostate has an excuse since they have the means to get there. But to be fair, Talho had planned it so they had gone to the Monarchy Base anyway, so they wouldn't have caught the waves to begin with. I was also hoping we'd get a lot more exposure on Holland & Talho (which was pretty much all Holland) similar to what we got with Eureka last week, but I guess their secrets aren't as plentiful as hers.
Renton wins the award for both the stupidest line and the creepiest line of the week...
"The planet is really... round!"
Uh... someone obviously was not paying attention in school. :p
"Today is, well... (to himself) hooray for zero gravity."
Shocking, there's actually thousands of people who wish they were in Renton's position against Eureka. Not me, though.

Well that was kind of a slow episode..
Is Holand married to the young woman who helps him pilot the machine and whose shirt Renton burned with the iron? He sleeps with her.
what is her name? Thanks
I think Eureka has unresolved feelings toward what happened in her previous life, so does Holand. Notice how absent mindidly she stares far away when they arrive to a different planet.
I like that Renton is starting to ask the right questions.
When in the series is he going to admit to himself that he really likes Eureka, and be honest with his feelings for her sake? :ack:
The government finally found out that Gekko State is responsible for attacking their ship and protecting the land of Vodarac!
In the next episode I'm looking forward to the action government is plans to take against the Gekko State.
Why is Anemone's nose bleeding and can't stop?
I also want to see Renton's grandfather and his sister, whom he talks about in almost every episode, play some role in the future episodes! :anime:
Did anybody else feel that this episode was kind of slow paced... The atmosphere on the other planet was cool though!
It was nice to see Renton expanding his view on the world, so by the end of this series I'm expecting him to become a well rounded person!

Her name is talho, they arn't married afaik, they were not at a diffrent planet just flying through space because it is faster, I think you need to watch the first few episodes over again, his grandfather and his sister are somewhat shown and definantly a large part of the episodes, it will really help you if you have not seen them.

Ah so that explains the whole Yuri Lowenthal thing. I dunno, I hope he picks up his game. I've always been a fan of his, but he's been pretty average to somewhat mediocre so far in E7, but it will be hard to measure up to the Japanese dub because Yuko Sanpei gives one of my favorite anime performances ever as Renton's Japanese VA.
I think the rest of the cast has been pretty solid with Crispin Freeman's Holland just being awesome, Kate Higgins Talho as good and for the most part Stephanie Sheh has been good as Eureka, although I think she's injecting a bit too much emotion into the character.

I believe the murdering is during the flashback when Eureka was firing that big laser from the Nirvash in the middle of the crowded town, which resulted in some pretty cool looking explosions. She then hoped out of the cockpit and calmly used a machine gun to cap a few people she missed. She then found the three orphans and I guess immediately had a change of heart.
Whether the conversations were boring or not is debatable I suppose.

I mean other than Inuyasha every other program could be replaced with Eureka at the 12:30 spot. Hasn't AS even considered putting it on during the week? I think it would fit quite well. They should still have the new eps on saturday but also be on the week reairing the previous eps. So does anybody know what the deal is on that? And well if this has already been answered than just tell me so and I will just smack my head on a table for being so stupid.

CN doesn't air new episodes of animes nightly, its repeats. They used to do it with some shows, but then Inuyasha became the only show doing it now. The other problem with doing this with E7 is that they'd run out of episodes until the dubbing is complete on the series. I don't know how far along they are, but I would say 25/26 episodes at the most maybe.

Or at least wait until the first season is done (by that I mean the first 25/26 eps) then start from the first ep one day a week. I mean camon they have Cowbow bebop and FMA on right now during the week at the 12:30 slot. Not that I'm saying I don't enjoy watching them but Eureka should get the most exposure possible since AS executives actually wanted to put it in the 1:00 hour on saturday which would have bombed it to hell.
