I can help you out with the second question.

Parasite, Darkseid, Luthor, and Mzlypixy (however you spell that name) are all from the comics. I believe every other villain was made up (although I could be wrong).

Could you clear up the first question about the DC villains?

Don't forget Bizarro.

Livewire, Luminus, and Volcana were created for the series. Just about everyone else was radically redesigned, however (meaning completely different from their comic book versions).

You forgot to mention Prototype as also being made up for the series. And if I'm not mistaken Jax-or & Mala as well. ;)

Luthor, Bizarro, Toyman, Brainiac, Mxyzptlk, Metallo, Parasite, Mannheim, Intergang, Darkseid (and all of his underlings), Jax-Ur & Mala, Lobo, Maxima, Weather Wizard, Sinestro, and Karkull all appeared at some point in the comics before they appeared on Superman's animated series.

Mercy Graves, Livewire, Volcana, Luminus, the Preserver and the Promethean were created for the animated series.

Since her debut on TV, though, Mercy has been introduced in the Superman comic books as well. Hope that helped!

Was Prototype really a villain?

As for the other two, while it is true that Jax-Ur and Mala were created for the show I believe that they stole the name "Jax-Ur" from another Silver Age Phantom Zone criminal and attached the name to a redesign of General Zod. Either way, I missed some. Thanks.

(Oh, and Karkull was a new character too!)

Don't forget: Darkseid was in Superman: TAS. and that freaky "grandma" lady was his assistant.....(I think she was made up...)

as for what batman villians died..I couldn't honestly tell you, as I don't read the comics. But as far as a I know...every one of them is still alive..and if they "died"..it isn't for good. they always bring em' back.

Good ol' Granny Goodness (voiced perfectly by Ed Asner) and all of Darkseid's other henchmen (Kanto, Kalibak, DeSaad, Steppenwolf, Lashina, Stompa, and Mad Harriet) were all created by Jack Kirby and originally used in various DC Comics featuring the New Gods from the early 70's to the present. Right now they can probably be seen in the "Orion" comic book series.

By the way, Karkull was an old Dr. Fate villian from the Golden Age and was most recently used in the "JSA" comic.

Yeah, check it out:

Your namesake (full name Ian Karkull) was just used in a recent storyline in "JSA." The shadow-form mastermind of the comics is nothing like the hooded demon from the animated series, though. I guess the only thing they have in common is sorcery and an adversarial link to Dr. Fate.

Eh. He's kind of neat, but I like the more Lovecraftian version from Superman.

Nice website, though. Hey, there really was a Giganta in DC comics! I thought that she was just invented for the Superfriends (like Apache Chief was)!

No MAJOR villain has died that hasn't come back to life. DC wouldn't dare kill off a strong major character.
