Watching some Looney Tunes shorts, an episode of FLCL and thinking about PPGZ the other day got me thinking about this scenario:

Imagine if Warner Bros.(Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry), Sony(Pink Panther), Viacom(Terrytoons, such as Mighty Mouse), and King Features(Popeye) decided to make new theatrical-quality shorts for their properties. Instead of American writers and directors, they decided to choose a Japanese studio and directors to do the new shorts. Which anime directors and studios would you like to see work on the new shorts?

Talk about an interesting combination.:D

Anyway, for the LT shorts, I would like to see Gainax handle that. FLCL was a good indicator that Gainax can do visual humor and off-model poses of the characters. Besides, who wouldn't want to see Anno do a Bugs Bunny cartoon?;)

I always saw TOEI working well with Terrytoons, and I'm sure if they got a good director, they could pull of Mighty Mouse.

Maybe Shinichiro Watanabe could direct a Tom and Jerry cartoon, since he did a homage to them in one of the Cowboy Bebop cartoons.

As for Popeye, maybe Sunrise could do it. Imagine Popeye and Bluto fighting in Gundams.

As for Pink Panther, I don't know about him. I'll be interesting to see Karl Olsons takes on these.:D

An Animatrix-style compilation would work best for Looney Tunes, but I wouldn't limit it to just Japanese directors. Let's have all the best comedic talent in the industry! Brad Bird, Genndy Tartakovsky, John K., Nick Park, Sylvan Chompet, Akitaro Daichi, Isao Takahatta, Hidaki Anno, and Shinichiro Watannabe could all have interesting interpretations of these classic characters, and even the worst case scenario would be lightyears ahead of Loonatics Unleashed.

It would be interesting. Some of those anime directors can pull off some really brilliant shorts. Take a look at Robot Carnival, Neo-Tokyo, and Memories if you don't believe me.
