Is that really a surprise? Why bother broadcasting it if they can't show the whole film? Makes no sense to me...!
Other edited cartoons shown today:
Chow Hound
Ballot Box Bunny
A Day At The Zoo
Drip-Along Daffy
Dog Collared
Tintin

When I first saw this post, I thought Drip Along Daffy was finally shown uncut.

A Day At The Zoo
I think the main reason that was edited was because of the smoking camels gag and i beleave that cut was done by the fcc
since tv stations are not alowed to air anyting to do with adviertising ciggrets (promos ect) or gelorfing sigs
so i think that the FCC made the cut on there behalf
CHEERS!

The ending is trimmed down, so we don't here Porky's line: "Lucky for him it IS a one horse town!".

I recently acquired an uncut copy of "September" (unfortunately, still the Blue Ribbon version). It has some scenes featuring Fats Waller and Al Jolson in blackface, among a few others.

Why do they show the cartoons censored on TV, but uncensored on video? I'm just curious about it. Perhaps it's just hypocracy.

They DON'T little dude.
I have lots of Videotapes of Tom & Jerry and Droopy that are pre-edited by Turner Video.
My copy of HIS MOUSE FRIDAY has all the dialogue muted. My copy of SATURDAY EVENING PUSS is the bastardized version with the white teenager instead of dear ol' Mammy.
And my copy of DROOPY'S GOOD DEED has the "any more babes in there, Blackie?" line intact, but the rich man and Spike's blackface gag is cut.
And I've learned from reading the postings on this board that the latest DVD releases of Tom & Jerry and Disney's short cartoons are EDITED too - and that's REALLY unacceptable!
As far as hypocracy, maybe, in the case of the Droopy gag I mentioned, but generally it's because (ALL BOARD MEMBERS ROLL THEIR EYES AND MUTTER, "THERE HE GOES AGAIN") of the almighty dollar.
The thought that even one puny little sale might be lost because someone was offended by a cartoon gag makes the conglomerate break out in hives and reach for the scissors.

Government rules do bar cigarettes from being advertised, but the editing is still done by Warners. And, there are still WB toons which feature [fictional] cigarette ads -- specifically, a neon sign based on one that used to be atop a Times Square (N.Y.) building. One is the Bugs Bunny 'toon "A Hare Grows in Manhattan".
