According to reports from AoD (http://animeondvd.com/), Funi managed to get a Shounen Jump property instead of Viz, and it's the one many actually predicted: Black Cat.

They did, via a "cease and desist" letter that included Black Cat in the list of FUNimation properties.
It's just that, nobody believed it because "it wasn't an official announcement and therefore must've been a mistake"... which was nothing but a bunch of bull so everyone could justify watching the fansubs.

I hope it's Toonami bound. I've heard good things about this show, but I'm not sure about the demographic it's geared towards.

I didn't find it that adult actually, but whatever.
Its definitely the kind of title Funi would get. Unfortunately its a case of starting off strong and getting really weak toward the end. We're not talking a "they copped out and didn't resolve anything" ending or a "what the deuce I'm confused" ending, that tend to be common, but a "they ended the story and then did a four episode crack-inspired mess of convoluted junk" ending.
Creed is an INSANE Villian though.

There are guns. Guns don't slide well on Toonami anymore. AS bound.

Toonami has TV-PG in its arsenal these days though.

Black Cat is Toonami material and it doesn't have insane amounts of blood to hide it's immarity behind like Bleach does.

I'm thinking Toonami myself. With Toonami's new allowance of PG content, Black Cat should get in without trouble, even with the guns. And minus the Blue Gener snafu Funi is very good when it comes to editing their shows for CN (not to mention they're not as "OMG PROTECTZ THE CHILDUN!!" as 4Kids is).

Yeah, although sometimes, FUNi likes to edit things for no reason. I guess to sell uncut DVD's.

Well, there is also the element of trying to error on side of not having to do another week's worth of rework on an episode (AKA not wanting to repeat the edit process like they had to on Blue Gender.)
Meanwhile, this just about confirms that the C&Ds were sort of jumping the gun as implied at points. However, I kinda figured that even with Viz's ties to Shokugan, Funimation's ties to Gonzo would come first. Besides, I'm sure they'll knock out a deal to co-promote each other anyway, so it won't result in any bad blood I think.

That'd be Shueisha actually. Shokugan doesn't own JUMP. They own Shonen Sunday. But Shueisha does have ties to Viz Media.

Beh, I always flip that. Anyways, Shueisha effectively owns Viz now, but if it was ultimately Funi money (wow that's sounds bad) that allowed Black Cat to be made, Shueisha can't do anything about it (though delay of this announcement may have to do with Shueisha overtures to push it towards Viz anyway for all I know.)

I wouldn't be surprised if Viz has some tiny bit of ownership of the anime. Perhaps something as simple as requesting it have a Shonen JUMP logo so it'll fit in with their releases of other Shonen JUMP titles.

Due to standards at the time they had to edit the scene. The tomato soup idea was creative to say the least, I'm not sure what else they could have done.

It didn't help that the original idea was pretty contrived to begin with. They really went out of their way for a tit joke.

It came from one of the movies. It was a beer can, and they painted the beer red.

So...FUNi has Black Cat. It's about time. I really only dug the show because of Sven, and even he couldn't my attention for long, but I can assure you if it gets played on Toonami it WILL become a hit.
As for Dragonball and Tomato Soup...I have to admit, that's pretty creative. Especially considering the time period, when standards were retightened and shows were edited in a very lazy and corner-cutting fashion. I still prefer the original gag, though, simply because it's so over-the-top I can't even come up with the proper adjectives to explain its over-the-topness.

We went over the belly button idea thread after thread after thread. Because it's really pointless to bring Bulma along just for that and leave broadcast fans puzzled.

Just the fact that somehow Dragonball was edited relatively heavily and still managed to be both funny and compelling on pre-PG Toonami puzzles me.

I think the best way they can utilize this property is trying to get it on Toonami. It may have to undergo some edits, but I doubt there'll be too many people lamenting over that, especially if they can make a show with frequent gun use work on the block at TV-PG.

Personally, I would find it quite ironic if an edited version appeared with a TV-PG rating on Toonami, since Funi basically rates all of it's uncut anime TV-PG anyway (even thier Lupin the 3rd movies and Blue Gender, which were rated 16 and Up in thier original ratings). Then again, they also don't release any of thier anime in edited format anymore (at least I think, unless thier still releasing edited versions of Yu Yu Hakusho).
