Just wondering if he was and how big a role he played. With the new Joe comic series out, so far we haven't heard from him. There was some weird hallucination that Cobra Commander had in issue 2 that he was in, but his character has been absent so far.

Storm Shadow is another missing character, but from the looks of the preliminary cover to #6, Storm Shadow is returning. Hit the link to see the cover. It should be at the top of the page. Plus if you notice, G.I. Joe has a new cover artist. And from the looks of the cover, he's pretty good. God, I wish they had a new artist for the actual book.

Yes, but I can't remember when he showed up. He played a large role for a while, but, eventually, Cobra Commander regained control of Cobra, as he always does.

Yeah, Stormshadow definteily shows up in the new series - I've already got the new action figure of him! Its already out in stores.

Since we're asking about the old GI Joe here, I've got another question. I only remember bits and pieces of the original comic and TV series, and recently I watched the GI Joe movie. In that, Cobra Commander gets turned into a big snake, and slithers off, never to be seen in the movie again. So my question is, did he make a return in the cartoon or comics, and how did they explain bringing him back?

After the movie, that's where Sunbow's take on the series ended. Another company picked it up, can't remember who, and made new episodes that came after the movie. The first 5 episodes was called the "The Firefly something or other." :) Can't remember the whole title. But in that story arc is where the Baroness and Dr. Mindbender I believe through some kind of magic or science were able to change Cobra Commander back. Once he was changed back, CC went with the hooded look that we see today. As for the comic series, I'm not sure how his look changed. I'm not even sure if the movie was incorporated into the comics or not.

I've read a lot of opinions about the episodes after the movie over the years, and most everyones opinion was that they weren't good once Sunbow's reign on G.I. Joe was over. They all seemed to lack something.

I've just recently acquired all the episodes on tape, but there all not in order and I haven't gotten to any of the post movie episodes yet. But that's pretty much the run down on Cobra Commander. I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing Serpentor return to the new G.I. Joe comics and hopefully the new toy line.

OK, the story arc where Cobra Commander is changed back is called "Operation Dragon Fire Days." I was close. :) And the company that took over was DIC. Hope that helps.

Hasbro had control over the Joe comic for a little while, they force Larry Hama to put Serpentor into the book even though he hated the character. As the show's popularity dwinded Hasbro loosened their control over the comic and Hama killed him off. Marvel is going to reprint their Joe books starting with a trade collecting the first 20 issues in April, if it sells they'll release more.

Ah ha! I found out how Serpentor died. Sort of. Zartan killed him off, but I don't know how. It happend in the Cobra Civil War story line between issues 73-76. Click the link below to see the cover and a short summary. Actually, you can see a cover and summary from all 155 issues at this site.

Zartan killed Serpentor by shooting him in the face with an arrow while Serpentor was leading a column of HISS tanks and Zartan was on an overlook.
