This is how reality TV should be done.

I remember watching this the first time and just going "Oh, ****" when the Dalek fleet popped up. Good writing by Russell T. Davis, which is what I consider the norm from him; a bit camp and maybe a bit too squishy in some eps (the Mickey-eating trashbin), but I still like it.
Even without seeing next week's ep, this one gives you enough to speculate about the entire series. How much did the Daleks control the series? How long have they been planning to make us a fat little farm of stagnant humans, ripe for the picking? Not to mention how they were all killed and the Doctor supposedly helped off the last one in "Dalek."
"Lynda with a Y" is definitely the typical female Who companion -- asks the questions, is sweet, is cute, and is willing to follow the Doctor anywhere. We'll see how far she goes.
I think they edited out some stuff with Captain Jack -- he tried out more fashions when I saw it in England, not to mention he was a little naughtier in terms of dialogue....I'm pretty sure we saw his ass over in the UK, too. Ah well, DVDs! They just better not cut out what I think they might cut out next ep.
I liked the Controller a lot, actually. I'd love to have a series story that deals with her -- what kind of family gives you up to be hooked up to the machine and run a game show station when you're five? Very small role but very significant and intriguing to me.

You are the Weakest Link!! Good bye
 at Anne-droid and Big Brother.
You know it would have been shocking to see the Dalek alive in this episode if it wasn't for the Sci Fi ruining it by showing the freaking promo, showing the Daleks alive, for the season finale during the episode. Thank for ruining Sci Fi:mad: . Anyway it was a cool episode. There something that confused me, if the laser werent desintigrators why didnt the Dalek transport the Doctor when he try to escape from the Big Brother house? I mean would they just been victorious by killing the Doctor after being teleported.

Without giving too much away, this is kinda covered next episode. Let's just say there's a long history between the Daleks and the Doctor that makes taking him out something for them to savour.

If they were showing the UK trailers, you would have been spoiled anyway.

There was a letter in the Radio Times where someone praised the recent season 2 two-parter for it's attempts to hide the appearance of the Cybermen until the cliffhanger...but that this was rather stupid since the Radio Times itself had already revealed what they looked like indepth before the episode aired.

Haha at big brother and Anne-droid. I wonder how long it will be before they do just kill of people on air for a reality show. Fear factor comes pretty close to it.
For a moment there I thought they actually had killed Rose, and that Lynda was going to be the new travel companion. My breath caught in my throat. But she wasn't dead afterall.
Jeez, Captain Jack will flirt with anything that moves, won't he?

I dodged Boomtown's "NEXT EPISODE" when it aired, and I'm glad I did, good lord, some of the trailers gave away the best bit! That's the whole climax of where the story is going.. gone!
An enjoyable episode, but nothing amazing, just a good solid build up to the finale... and a good end note to commence the end of the season on.

While the Dalek invasion force was ruined for me by the promo (usually Sci Fi saves that for the ending credits...), it was an overall awesome episode. If I was Rose, I'd be scared poopless right about now.
I also loved that the version of The Weakest Link some 3,000+ years in the future isn't as technlogically advanced as the one that aired on NBC a couple of years ago. :P

They've done that a few times on Doctor Who, and sometimes the companions all travel together; Tom Baker had a regular entourage at times. Two or more companions was norm up until Sylvester McCoy, I think, since I only remember him traveling with Mal or Ace while other Doctors had two or three -- for example, Hartnell had Susan, Ian, annd Barbara while T. Baker would have a whole entourage.

Yup. That's the magic of Cap'n Jack. So lovably lecherous.

Aye. All of the shows seen were based on their modern day UK equivelants. It seems Jack's one is lost on most Americans. It's based on a show called What Not To Wear, where too self decided fashion experts (who played their robot equivelants) brutally change people's fashion.

The British version of What Not to Wear came first by a few years, actually. Trudy and what's-her-face.

Probably the most oblique refferences in Bad Wolf are the throwaway gags to Ground Force, Countdown, Wipeout, Stars in their Eyes, and Call My Bluff.

The entourage stopped at one companion at the end of Peter Davison's tenure. Generally, the writers felt that one of the companions would generally get lost in the story and would be fitting for relevance. Afterall, you only need one companion to say "what's going on Doctor" while getting into trouble.
That said, I've always preferred a larger group. The Ian, Susan and Barbara companions were the strongest set IMO, and I did actually enjoy the Nyssa, Tegan, Adric/Turlough group in the Davison periods. Also, the Harry and Sarah, Doctor with Baker is arguably the best grouping from his era. I also enjoyed the Jamie/Zoe group with Troughton. Personally, I think it gives the viewer a little more diversity in story and interaction. It also allows the Doctor to do what he needs to do and allows the companions to interact without extra characters. You can create scenarios in which companions can explore without introducing secondary characters to dialogue with them.
Certainly the best in the New Series companionwise have been the Rose/Doctor/Captain Jack dynamic. IMO.

Ah, ok. I've never seen 6's tenure, so I wasn't sure who was still traveling around with the grump. And I agree with you -- a male-female mix is nice. Sarah Jane Smith and Harry Sullivan were fun to watch.

Agree there too. We need more omnisexual human male sluts! Sadly, unless Torchwood is a giant bomb, Cap'n Jack is going to be there for a long while.
