Could some tell me what was the difference between the TMNT cartoon series from the late 80's/early 90's to the new millineum?

one major diff: Tone
the old series was very comical, the new series is quite serious w/ comical bits here and there.

the Turtles personalities are the same for the most except for Raphael. In the old series, he was a smartmouth whereas in the new show he's a hothead (think Wolverine/Batman)

old Shredder was really a lacky to Krang
while the new Shredder (S1-S3) was one nasty hardcore, shellkicker

the new series relies on lot on the comics for source material and it's really strong w/ continuity.

I highly recommend you rent/borrow Vol 1 (the Mouser trilogy) for a small taste of TMNT2K3 awesomeness! Unless you want to skip ahead to watch the first Turtles v Shredder eps then skip ahead to Vol 4 (though you'd be missing out on a lot of backstory)

there are numerous differences between the new & the old. Some have hardcore alliances to the old, me...I like both but I really enjoy the new series for it's serious tone. The animation is great and the interplay between the Turtles can be hilarious as well as dramatic (especially between Leo & Raph- frequent headbutting)

Thanks for the info. I hjust don't get why people peffered the 1987 version over the 2003 version. Is it because they grew up with it?

Thats exactly why. Some people don't accept change. Even if it is for the better.

Original cartoon: Fun series with a loose continuity. It was the 80's and early 90's version of Pokemon. The TMNT basically defeat Shredder and Krang in every episode, the villains tend to be bumbling idiots and never learn from their mistakes, rinse and repeat for about 10 seasons. The stories are good and the show doesn't take itself too seriously, which is why it was a blast to watch.

New show: Heavy on continuity, focuses on season long story arcs. The action and storytelling is far more complex, and it's overall a much more entertaining show. Characters gradually grow and change, and the villains aren't bumbling idiots like they were in the old show.

The Turtles have just changed, basically. The 80's version were badass ninjas, but they looked cute and cuddly. This version still has them as deadly ninja and somewhat fun-loving attitudes, but couple that with their more mature look(like no pupils, etc.), and the fact that they just look more inhuman, it gives them that edge.

Theres some difference between the 2 splinters and not just his origine.

Mike was lot more funner in the old one.

April&Casey also had different personilty and were not a couple in the old series.

Ralph was a jobber(loseing lots of fights)in the old series too.

Althougth they were idoits I miss B&R.:crying:

At first I prefered TMNT v1 over v2 because the orignal one was more fun and of course I grew up with it. But I always saw the that the new one could be better if it was given enough time on tv to prove its self and I was right. I still don't care much for the first 2 seasons but this season and last season where great the animation was on point and the stories where great. There were some really fun eps and some really serious ones.

I like the introductory story arc of the old TMNT series best. But it probably went downhill after that. I don't really remember.

The New TMNT is based on the actual comic book series.

So was the other one, they jus 1980's-ed it up.

It just depends, if you're a criminal attempting to mug someone, would you be more afraid of this

nostalgia can be blinding
i loved the old series growing up (though I only watched the first few seasons) but the new series owns in everywhich way

it's like comparing SuperFriends to Justice League (Unlimited)
