I've been hearing more hates about cartoons & anime of the new millineum, and been hearing more of how people miss shows of the 90's and back. Even shows that been doing good in the past are now doing bad in the present. I just don't get it. Would it been better is showa of the past stayed and shows of the future never occured? Would it be better if it were the 80's or 90's again?

Every generation hates the new stuff that comes out for the next set of people. It's just because the new cartoons are different from the stuff we grew up with, so we don't identify with them and pass them off as trash. I have a hard time watching Nick anymore because all the cartoons seem pointless to me. So I guess things work like that.

This millenium has had many good cartoons. Samurai Jack, Futurama, Justice League, Fullmetal Alchemist, Spirited Away, Shrek, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, etc. are all classics that will go down in history with the best of the '80s and '90s.

The problem is that we're in a REALLY dry period. Between the constantly generic CGI kiddy films that have come out for the past year and the fact Cartoon Network now sucks I can see why people would be pessimistic. But in all honesty, A LOT of crap was made in the '80s and '90s as well. Back then for every Batman:TAS there was 5 Dougs, and nowadays for every Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends there's 5 Ben 10s. And hey! With innovative filmmakers like Lassetter, Park, and Miyazaki, I don't think anyone can say this is the dark age of animation. Merely the dark age of executive mentality.

Theatrical Animation: Suffered a dip for awhile, but is now back on track and continuing to prosper.

Video Animation: Seems to be holding it's own.

TV Animation: Suffering. I look at all these great shows that networks are backing (Rescue Me, Prison Break, House, 24) and then I look at how animation has been fairing (Loonatics, Ben 10, Kids Next Door) and it's dissapointing.

I'm not old enough to say I remember watching EVERYTHING in the old Nickelodeon, but I can remember enough to say that the new is disappointing. I really liked "Are you afraid of the dark?" and "Hey Arnold!" Nothing in Nick except FOP and Spongebob, and Avatar appeal me anymore, most likely because its aimed towards younger audiences. So, from what I've seen, read, and heard from older people, old Nick was much more entertaining than new Nick.

The only real iffy era for animation was probably when Hanna Barbara had like 20 different series with the same premise. Ever since the 80's animation has been fine, it's just people are too thick-headed. People complain that Nicktoons aren't like Rocko or Ren and Stimpy (Heaven forbid) and in 10 years people will complain that Nicktoons aren't like Spongebob and The X's. Then in 10 years it'll happen all over again.

Really the cartoons worth watching since 2000 (to me) have been JL/JLU (one of the best shows ever. CN,Time Warner or who ever is in charge really dropped the ball on that one. I'm still crying over it being gone) TMNT, Transformers: Cybertron and sometimes Teen Titians. There really hasn't been anything really good to on TV in genral. I mean damn do they even make sitcoms anymore I'm glad I can Seinfeld and King of Queens a few times a day.
