At first glace, this version of the Justice League appears very anti-Superfriends. The team consists of “those who cannot be replaced” (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) and four others who were never even members of the Superfriends team—Flash (Wally West replacing Barry Allen), Green Lantern (John Stewart replacing Hal Jordan), J’onn J’onzz (who was never a member), and Hawkgirl (replacing Hawkman).

Is it just me?

What would be the point of repeating themselves? There are LEAGUES of superheroes to choose from and only Timm and company can do them JUSTICE. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The series is pretty much just based upon the newest incarnation of the comic book, so I would disagree. They just took all of the most popular characters from JLA and tossed in Hawkgirl to help even out the female:male ratio, and of course John Stewart replacing Kyle for racial diversity. Most of the other members of the Super Friends were never really popular. Look at the list: Apache Chief, Samurai, Red Tornado, El Dorado...probably the only somewhat popular characters that were dropped were Aquaman and Atom, and it's hard to write stories in which their abilities are really useful. And of course Hawkman, but I agree that having him would just detract from Hawkgirl.

Plus, we know that the JL crew purposely doesn't want to be like the Super Friends, so there's no reason for them to go out of the way to include those minor characters. I wonder how they reacted to that "Super Friends for the next generation" comment on the CN commercial?

:snort: I know I wince every time I hear it. Talk about a lazy and demeaning comparison.

I wonder if Superfriends made fans like us as happy as JL is today? And if in 20 years, JL will be a "Retro" goofy show like we sometimes look at superfriends?
